Cottage in Beckley, Rye, East Sussex - A Countryside setting with Rye's local amenities, 15 mins from the beach

Refurbished this year, it has a sleeping capacity of 4, with a gorgeous large double bedroom, 3ft wide bunk bed room (PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CANNOT FIT A COT IN THIS BEDROOM), bathroom and a wonderful Kitchen/Sitting room. The Poplars cottage is set in a 1 acre garden, has its own parking, private patio garden with BBQ, views of the surrounding countryside and the unique gardens of the main house. We are 15 Minutes from the glorious beaches at Camber Sands, the Historic towns of Rye, Tenterden, Hastings, and Winchelsea, Castles galore are in the area not least Bodiam Castle - and some of the best gardens in the world are on our doorstep (Great Dixter -5 minutes’ drive, Sissinghurst Castle and garden 20 minutes). Battle Abbey is 15 minutes away and a picturesque Steam train ride through this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is 5 minutes drive. Our local supermarket is 5 minutes’ drive away, a Children's Play Area and Tennis Court is 5 minutes’ walk away, a fascinating local Church and traditional village pub are here for you to explore.

Great little cottage

What a great few days away... stayed for 3 nights from 01st January and loved everything about the cute little cottage.

Perfect size for 2, local pub about 10 minutes walk with some great local characters, bus stop right outside to get into Rye.

Marie-Claire made us feel very welcome and the cake on arrival was a nice little touch. Was sad to leave!!!!

We knew the area very well, Marie-Claire having been brought up in the next door village (Peasmarsh). We had moved from London and Edward instantly fell in love with the area - its proximity to the beach, the stunning countryside and the local History contributed in making this an easy decision for us. Only 1 and half hours from London and 35minutes to the Eurostar and Europe, with so much to do and see here, it is a bit of a hidden gem

Coast/Beach:

The miles of golden sand at Camber Sands is a 15 minute drive, Other pebbly beaches with Ornithological interest and walks are at Rye Harbour and Winchelsea Beach - 15 minutes drive.

Travel:

Easy to find - Sat Nav will send you to the wrong side of the Road! A car is recommended. Local bus stop about 1 minute walk that goes to Rye and Hastings.

Road - 10 mins to Rye.

Rail - Trains to Hastings, Ashford (for Eurostar link - and high speed to St Pancras 37 mins) from Rye -Eastborne, Brighton and London Charing Cross from Robertsbridge.

Channel Tunnel - Folkestone 1 hour

Gatwick Airport- 1 hour

Rye - Historic Cinque Port Town with cobbled streets. Pubs, Restaurants, Supermarket, Shops & weekly Market. Castle Museum (7 miles) .

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve - Coastal nature reserve with shingle beaches, grassland, saltmarsh & reedbeds bordering lakes & pools hosting a vast array of wildlife. Bird watching hides (7m).

Camber Sands - Expanse of sandy beach. Bars, Cafes, Amusements, Water Sports (10m).

Tenterden - Quaint town with Chapel Down Winery/Vineyard & Steam Railway (12m).

Beckley- is a typical Sussex village, based on one road that goes on for about 3 miles with plenty of farmland in between. It has a garage 1 minute away, Church, Village Hall, Bowls Club & Pub serving good food. A local bus service from Rye to Tenterden has a stop less than 30 seconds walk from the front door & is ideal should you wish to have a relaxing day off from driving. Rye - has a weekly market on a Thursday & a Farmers Market on a Wednesday. Festivals such as The Rye Festival (of Arts), The Florestan music festival, Rye Bay Scallop Festival, Medieval Siege of Rye and Bonfire Parade with flaming torches are favourite events. Once surrounded by sea, this ancient town with its cobbled streets, tea rooms, restaurants, pubs & antique shops played an important role in England's historical defence and was an important trading port . Nowadays the river is home to the local fishing fleet, with freshly caught fish available to buy from the quayside (7m). For food lovers, the local scallops, fresh fish, Romney Marsh lamb, cherries & asparagus on the doorstep can be enjoyed in local restaurants and cafes. Local farm shops selling own produce are in abundance for those wishing to cook. Being situated so near to France we enjoy plenty of sunshine and mild winters. Beckley is in an enviable location as it is on the border of Kent & East Sussex, giving guests the opportunity to explore Kent "the Garden of England" as well as East Sussex "1066 Country" We are situated close to Tenterden (20 mins) with it's quaint antique shops, steam railway, vineyard/winery with shops & bistro & the town of Battle (15 mins) with re-enactments of the Battle of Hastings. Gardens & Castles are in abundance such as Smallhythe Place, Bodiam Castle, Sissinghurst Castle, Great Dixter (Northiam 5 mins) just to mention a few. London, Brighton, Canterbury, Eastbourne & Hastings are all within easy reach for day trips. We are ideal for day trips to France as the Eurotunnel is only 45 minutes drive.

  • Notes on accommodation: There is a charger for electric cars should you need one. Outside: There is a small enclosed garden to the rear of the cottage with a bench, table, 4 chairs and a bbq. We have solar panels at the front of the cottage. You only see these when you arrive, they do not affect you once inside or in the garden. Utility Room: Washing machine. Ironing Board and iron. Drying rack. Magi mix food mixer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are provided. The property is cleaned weekly.
