Beautiful French Country House for families of all ages

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
4 bedroom, 3 bathroom in peaceful hamlet in the Quercy - France's Tuscany

Beautiful French country villa, located in the Quercy Blanc region of the Lot department, adjacent to the Cahors Malbec wine route. The microclimate of the region is a sunny and mostly dry summer climate. The property features its own private pool with a sunny walk-out terrace perfect for dining and barbecues. Located in a quiet hamlet, the property offers a quiet, peaceful holiday and is only a short drive to 3 large towns with supermarkets and lovely restaurants.

Following renovations, the house features 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and a new kitchen and appliances. There is an open plan lounge / kitchen which opens out on the large sun terrace overlooking the pool and 4 acres of private gardens, which is perfect for hot lazy summer days where you can also enjoy a croissant and coffee for breakfast and a BBQ for dinner or a bottle of wine in the evenings.

Description of sleeping capacity:

Sleeps 8 (maximum 8 adults/children plus 1 infant and 1 toddler/under 5)

Notes on bedrooms:

Upper level:

Bedroom 1 with double bed.

Bedroom 2 with double bed.

Bedroom 3 with 2 single beds.

Lower level:

Bedroom 4 (master suite) with king bed

(There is 1 cot and 1 small bed suitable for 2-5 year old with a bed guard).

Notes on bathrooms:

Upper level:

Shared luxury walk-in shower with wc to bedroom 1 and bedroom 2.

En-suite shower with wc to bedroom 3.

Lower level:

En-suite bathroom with soaker tub and shower over, with wc to bedroom 4.

Our Modernised kitchen includes two integrated ovens (one is a combined convection oven and microwave), integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric hob, filter coffee machine, toaster, electric kettle and all crockery, cutlery and utensils required.

The dining and relaxation terrace has ample seating for all right off the kitchen, and our Weber kettle BBQs can be found here also for convenience.

The lounge has two comfortable leather sofas and armchairs with feature log-burner and stone wall.

There is TV with satellite showing UK channels such as freeview, news and some movies. A DVD player (along with plenty of DVDs to choose from) is available too..

There is a small selection of toys suitable for babies and young children together with a slide outside and a few garden toys.

Additionally, for convenience, there is a baby/infant pack to include a cot, changing mat, baby bath, thermometer, child/toddler friendly plates, beakers and cutlery. Also, a hand blender and a single Tommee Tippee microwave steriliser.

As owners, we love this region of France since it reminds us of France's version of Tuscany, with its pretty rolling hills and cypress trees, and pigeonnier dotted around the region.

We also love the old school world of this part of France, very rustic with its old world Malbec wine, hearty duck and black truffles. It really is a gastronomic delight.

We love the fact that it is extremely peaceful, safe and the air is exceptionally fresh and dry.

The weather in this region is also interesting. While it can be extremely cold in winter with even snowy days, it is mostly very hot in summer which is of course resolved by a dip in the pool!

We also felt that, although the property is in a lovely peaceful and rural location, it is still easy to access from the main road and the Autoroute comes through Cahors, a beautiful medieval city, which is only 30 minutes away.

We underwent a renovation process during 2010/2011 of the interior of the property, so we hope you will enjoy the rustic charm of the old farmhouse, combined with modern conveniences and luxuries, such as more bathrooms per person and a modern open plan kitchen. Externally, we revealed the old Quercy stones that were hiding underneath rendering. It is now very pleasant to drive up to.

Our property is also very private and hidden from the road.

Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

I live in the Channel Islands with my husband. We have both travelled extensively and have spent time living overseas including the Cayman Islands and Canada. We love France because of its ease of access especially from the UK and Channel Islands, but of course for its amazing food, wine and easy going culture, and family/pet friendliness. There are also many interesting places to visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent a wonderful relaxing week at Paillas at the end of September. Apart from showers one morning, the weather was warm and sunny so we could swim in the pool and enjoy barbecues in the evening on the large patio overlooking the pool. The villa is spacious with large bedrooms and plenty of closet space. I understand that renovations are being done this winter to give access to the downstairs bedroom.

We drove down from the UK taking a couple of days to visit Chartres and Limoges en route. The villa is about 10-12 minutes from Montcuq- a lovely town with some great restaurants for dinner or a place to chill out over a bottle of wine. The village is home to a wide range of shops including a newsagents that has a daily supply of British newspapers. There is also a small supermarket on the edge of the town. Another picturesque village only 6 minutes from the villa is Montaigu de Quercy.

Beautiful house, in fab grounds, everything you could wish for.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday at Paillas. We were 6 adults and two young children and the house was perfect for our needs. Plenty of space and very well equipped, the owners have thought of everything. The house manager Linda was great, we contacted her a few times and she was friendly and helpful.

The area is beautiful, the weather was mixed for our 2 week stay, so we travelled about a fair bit and visited lots of sights. There is so much to see and do, lots of lovely fresh markets, castles and chateaus to see and some not Beautiful towns and villages.....not to mention some super Creperies! We would recommend the house and the area, thank you Louisa for allowing us the opportunity to stay at your lovely home and for all your help before our arrival.

Utterly amazing

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic week away. Property is well maintained, decorated and furnished to a very high standard, spotlessly clean and well stocked with all the utensils, crockery and equipment you need. The welcome basket was well received too!

7 of us travelled and the house (and gardens) are large enough that you don't feel 'stifled' in each other's company. Pool was an ideal size and the kids just loved it.

Surrounding villages have everything you need. We stocked up in Cahors on the drive down but Moncuq and Montagu de Quercy both have supermarkets.

Night market a must. Local foods and live music.

All in all a fabulous time had by everyone.

Owner is an absolute delight to deal with. We will be returning.

AMAZING PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5

An amazing property, plenty of room for everyone. The terrace was wonderful to sit and watch the array of birds and butterflies. The grounds were lovely to walk around again full of all sorts of butterflies, we were also lucky enough to see deer, hares and red squirrels. T he pool was great and much needed as the weather was glorious. We have stayed at many properties in France over the years and this one is by far the best, it was well laid out and everthing you need is there. A lovely area very peaceful and tranquil. I would certainly reccomend this property and would truly love to go again.

A VERY relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Paillas in early summer 2013 and will definitely be re-visiting.

The house has loads of space, plenty of character and still offers the luxuries one might expect on a day to day basis. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and very helpful and also has a local agent who came over to make sure we had settled in (but didn't hang about, don't worry, she wasn't spying).

The covered terrace was fantastic for tranquil evening dinners, BBQ's or to hide from the sun. We stayed for two weeks but other than local walks, a day trip to Rocamadour and my morning trips to the supermarket, we never left the house and didn't feel bored or claustrophobic. Other than needing a car the house would suit any demographic. We had a fantastic holiday and would certainly recommend this property to anyone.

Further Details:

Paillas is situated in Valprionde, in the department of Lot adjacent to the Lot et Garonne and Tarn et Garonne. Due to Paillas' location at an intersection of three departments, the villa is central to everything this wonderful region has to offer.

Set within the beautiful Quercy blanc, there is easy access to the many tourist sites of The Lot, Dordogne, Tarn et Garonne and Aveyron valley. A feature of the Quercy region is that it enjoys a more mediteranean climate than the Dordogne and the northern Lot regions. The area has a beautiful and varied landscape ranging from forested hills and valleys to dramatic river cliffs and rolling farmland. It is known for its châteaux, fortified churches, its pre-historic caves and dozens of white limestone mediaeval villages and towns.

The region is characterised by the abundant white stone and the pigeonniers dotted across the landscape. Throughout the Lot and Quercy region there are simply hundreds of charming stone built villages, often perching on a hilltop with magnificent views of the surrounding area. Each village has its own individual character and was typically built around an ancient church with a village square. The area is also famous for its local produce which is in evidence at the local markets of Montaigu du Quercy and Montcuq.

Outdoor activitiies in the area include boating, watersports, swimming, golf, and mountain biking. The Parc Naturel Regional des Causses covers a large proportion of the department.

Paillas is located near the Cahors wine route and the world-class Malbec vineyards of Cahors and surrounding region including Vive-sur-Lot and Puy L'eveque. Malbec, known as the "Black wine" is centered around Cahors AOC and in Argentina and since 2000 has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity for its fruity and spicy flavour.
