The beautiful Villa is situated on private grounds measuring about 2000m², at the edge of the little village Makriotika: a peaceful and low-key traditional village with gentle tourism and typical Greek atmosphere. The location offers fantastic views across the green valley of Pylaros, the glistening Ionian Sea, the surrounding mountains, the little villages and hamlets. Here is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the authentic Greek life, far away from mass tourism.

The local tavern "Maklithari" is loved by insiders for its good Kefalonian food and the friendly service of the owners and is within 5 min walking distance from the Villa. Here you will also find a cafe with delicious traditional sweets and a mini market.

Villa Vounaki is built and furnished to a very high standard. The living space of some 110 m² is arranged over two floors and provides superior standards of comfort. The tastefully decoration combines traditional style with the latest modern amenities. The perfect equipment will make you feel home away from home. A free wi-fi internet is of course in the Villa provided.

The private pool (width 4 x 7 m / depths 0.50 – 1.50 m) and the pool terrace are set on the south-western side. This location offers plenty of sun during the whole day. 4 steps take you from the pool terrace to a comfortable seating area shaded by a pergola with marvelous panoramic views of the mountains of Pylaros. Here you can relax and enjoy the privacy you look for during your holidays in Kefalonia.

Two further terraces, one on the east and one on the west side provide further sitting facilities with both sun and shade. They are equipped with comfortable wooden furniture, sun umbrellas, a mobile gas grill and a mobile electic grill.

The secluded terraces and the pool offer a high level of privacy and are set within beautifully landscaped Mediterranean gardens with colourful geraniums, roses, oleanders and local sweet herbs.

About Lida Kougianou

My husband Peter and I live during the winter time in Germany. We love to return to Kefalonia and spend our summer time here in Makriotika, this picturesque little village with unique authentic Greek atmosphere and warm hospitality of the people.

We have travelled a lot around the world and our dream has been to return sometime here to this beautiful place and create a Kefalonian holiday accommodation to remember. The project has been designed personally by us with careful consideration of all possible needs of our guests. Though, our aim has been to nest the property harmoniously in its unique wild-romantic environment without changing this.

Since then, we concentrate our efforts on improving and enhancing the accommodation over time. Peter is a keen gardener, so he created a magnificent garden surrounding the villa with colourful Mediterranean flowers and local sweet herbs. A magical place to relax!

Quite simply, "Our priority,...is Your enjoyment... ! " We invite you to to share with us the Kefalonian experience.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The location is perfect for access to the best beach on the island, Myrtos, the nicest harbour town, Agia Efimia and the most stunning views and countryside on the island, all from the villa's terrace. Sunrise over the harbour is a sight to see over and over again. The layout and quality of the accommodation and surrounding grounds is amazing, you will want for nothing, all kitchen appliances, air conditioning and stylish furnishings enhance the experience no end, and the outside space is simply the best especially after a hot morning on the beach. Evenings are a joy to be spent in the local village square, enjoying authentic Greek cuisine watching the comings and goings of village life with only a 5 min stroll back to the comfort of the villa. A short drive, 10 min, takes you to Agia Efimia for a more varied choice of eateries and tavernas where you can watch the sail boats swaying at the keyside and pass a little time browsing the shops. Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We visited in early September and despite slight trepidation about the weather coming late in the season, we weren't disappointed at all.

From start to finish our break was perfect. Exceptional communication from Lida prior to our arrival, a wonderful welcome, beautifully manicured gardens and stunning views took our breath away from the beginning. We stayed in Villa Vounake which has lovely terraces, seatings areas to enjoy Al Fresco dining morning or evening, a lovely swimming pool and tastefully furnished rooms which make you feel right at home from the beginning.

A car is essential to enjoy the beauty of the island and Lyra Villas are the perfect place to do this from. Just 40 mins from Fiskardo via the mountain roads (a great way to enjoy some of the spectacular scenery Kefalonia has to offer), Assos is only 30 mins and well worth a visit for a taste of traditional Kefalonia. Closer to home, Agia Effimia is a pretty harbour with a selection of excellent restaurants and all the facilities you could need.

I can't recommend Lyra Villas highly enough - we will certainly be back!

Immaculate Villa

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful two week stay at this delightful villa. It was immaculately clean and simply but tastefully furnished. The different outside seating areas provided great variety and the pool was kept spotless. The villa is set in well maintained gardens and the owners' welcome pack was a real treat. Very well located for this part of the island with great access to a number of lovely beaches - the beach book in the villa was such a terrific idea! I would thoroughly recommend this quiet and peaceful villa for a truly relaxing break.

One of the Nicest Places I Have Stayed

  • 5 of 5

I have been traveling to Greece for the last 15 years and have stayed at Lyra Villas 5 times. It is undoubtedly one of the nicest places I have stayed in all of Greece. Lida and Peter, the incredibly welcoming owners of the property, come from Germany (although Lida is Greek) and cater to exactly what any visitor looking for privacy, a well-stocked house and a beautifully-appointed property want. It is in the village of Makriotika and driving in there are beautiful, narrow winding streets. The main square of the village has a great authentic restaurant with delicious grilled meat. We loved the location in the hills because of the amazing views and it gets cool at night which is nice since its so hot during the day. Our house was probably a ten minute drive to the beach and if we didn't have the energy to go out we just stayed at the pool. The gardens are beautifully maintained and to top if all off, Lida and Peter are extremely helpful, giving a welcome basket with fresh bread, eggs and wine and always offer good recommendations of places to eat or go the beach. Overall, it is a very tastefully-appointed place with all the amenities that my family and I were looking for in a vacation home while also providing an authentic Greek experience.

Summer 2013

This idyllic villa is set in a peaceful village with fantastic views. The villa is fantasticly equipped and spotlessly clean with everything you will need to enjoy a relaxing holiday. The owners ensure that all of your requirements are taken care of. The local tavern provides the ideal place for drinks or a meal. This was our second holiday at Villa Vounaki and we hope to return again.

Lyra Villas

  • 5 of 5

From the very first click on the Lyra Villas Collection website I knew that I had found something extra special and I certainly wasn?t disappointed - my family and I experienced the best two weeks we have ever had!

Our villa ? ?Villa Vounaki? is situated in Makriotika within stunning panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and the surrounding mountains. It is tastefully furnished, well equipped and beautifully maintained and both the pool and villa were cleaned on a regular basis.

The owners Lida Kougianou and Peter Keil provided excellent service ? we arrived late evening and they had thoughtfully filled the fridge with enough items to enable us to produce an evening meal which was so very much appreciated after such a long journey ? we had driven to Kefalonia from the UK!

Only a short walk from the villa in the village of Makriotika is a good restaurant which is frequented by both tourists and locals alike and offers traditional Greek meals of exceptionally high quality and at very reasonable prices.

The beautiful harbour of Agia Efimia is only 4 kilometres away. Here you can find a number of restaurants overlooking the harbour which offer menus to suit every ones taste - but I would thoroughly recommend ?fior d?amore cafe? ? (it?s literally on the corner of the harbour and has a beautiful garden made up of dahlias and sunflowers). The service and welcome is exceptional and their evening cocktails are amazing! I would also recommend the Paradise Beach restaurant which sits on the cliff tops going towards Odyssey Hotel ? fantastic views across to Sami and Ithaka.

Agia Effimia has a good dive centre which my daughter frequented for most of the holiday. It also has a small beach, a number of supermarkets, a lovely bakery, exceptional meat market and a pharmacy ? everything you could possibly need in the most perfect setting.

There is so much to see and do in beautiful Kefalonia ? Myrtos beach, Assos and Fiskardo are all in close proximity and reflect the best Kefalonia has to offer, but even if it is pure rest and relaxation you are looking for then all you need to do is to spend two wonderful weeks at Villa Vounaki.

I wouldn?t hesitate to recommend Lyra Villas to my friends and family and I am looking forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Coast/Beach:

The closest beach is the famous Myrtos Beach (5 min drive), one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Surrounding Agia Efimia (5 min drive) you will find a lot of small white pebble coves with clear crystal water, ideal for snorkeling. Furthermore, you can rent a motorboat in Agia Efimia and visit the numerous idyllic bays accessible only by boat. A truly unique experience!

Travel:

Easiest way to come to Kefalonia is by direct flight to the airport of Argostoli (EFL), approx 40km from the villa. If a direct flight is not provided in your country, you can take a flight to Athens and then a connected flight to Kefalonia. Alternatively, you can take a car rental in Athens and drive to the port of Kyllini. From Kyllini there are daily ferries to Kefalonia. We will be glad to assist you by your travel arrangements. Please contact us. A car rental is recommended.

Distances:

Only 5 min walk to the village square with a friendly tavern with good Kefalonian food and marvelous view, a little cafe with delicious traditional sweets, a mini market and bus station.

5 min drive to the picturesque port of Agia Efimia with little coves and small flint bays ideal for snorkeling, super-market, bakery, cafes, taverns, pharmacy, cash station, car, motorbike and motorboat rental, diving school, ferry to Ithaca.

Further Details:

The village of Makriotika is situated 5km from the picturesque port of Agia Efimia, framed by high mountains, on a height of more than 200m. The Kefalonians call it "The balcony of Pylaros", as it offers, indeed, a fascinating view across the wide valley of Pylaros: the port of Agia Efimia, the sea, the surrounding high mountains and the small traditional villages. Across the water, you can see Ithaca and some days you can even make out the mountains of Peloponnes.

Makriotika is located in the centre of the island, and is thus an ideal base for exploring the island. Here you can taste the flavour of the authentic Greek life. A nice "Platia" (village square), small red-roofed houses with flower-filled terraces, a traditional cafe, a friendly tavern, a mini-market, a bakery, a school and, as in each Greek village, a church. In the summer, the Platia is filled with playing children, native and emigrant Kefalonians and tourists. There are numerous beaches closed to the villa offering opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving in the summer.

The location is also ideal for nature lovers and hikers. You can walk for example to Agia Efimia. You will pass through an old traditional village, above the valley of Pylaros and facing Agia Efimia and the sea. Or you can leave the main road and take one of the several paths going through the valley to Agia Efimia. You can also walk to the beautiful monastery of Themata (approx. 4 km) which offers spectacular views. A path from the monastery leads to the top of the wild mountain of Agia Dynati and its new aeolic power park, capable to cover big part of the island' s power needs. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to visit the Bavarian Horse Riding Stables in Sami (approx. 18 km from the villa) and take part in a horse ride, a completely different way of exploring Kefalonia, by following old donkey trails with wonderful views through olive groves and fruit orchards.
