Wonderfully Situated Family Villa With Stunning 360 Degree Views

Updated: 11-Oct-2016
Villa in S'Albufera near Es Grau, Menorca, Balearic Islands - Its Hilltop Position Is Probably One Of The Finest Locations On The Island

Dagrum sleeps up to 8 in 4 bedrooms. It is a fantastic family holiday home. Because of its position the house is not overlooked and the pool and terraces provide complete privacy and stunning views across the island. To the east and north are views of open countryside, the fishing village at Es Grau and the sea; to the west a glimpse of the lake, S’Albufera, and then an uninterrupted view across to Monte Toro, Menorca’s highest point. Completing the panorama to the south are further views of the Parc and open countryside. But it is not just the views! Dagrum is well equipped to ensure all the family have a great holiday. The kitchen boasts all mod-cons, including a dishwasher; a good sized pool, if slightly strange in shape will provide hours of fun for the kids and the terraces with sun loungers and parasols will give sun lovers exactly what they want. And all less than 10 mins from the sea and 30 mins from the airport.

About the Owner

Who are we – Bruce & Nicky Williams. We live in Kent in the south east of England. We have just taken the villa over from Nicky’s father who bought the plot and built Dagrum in the early 70s when Nicky was in her teens. Every year she spent long family holidays in the villa, a tradition we have continued. Our three daughters have spent every summer holiday in Menorca. Our youngest is now 21! Dagrum has become a much loved family holiday home.

Nicky’s father never felt the need to rent the villa and so up until 2011 the house was never “on the market”. Only family and close friends stayed. Our resources are such that we need to rent to cover the cost of running the house and our primary aim is to ensure all our guests get as much enjoyment from the house as we have.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"The villa, we all agreed, was superb. The position was amazing. The pool was brilliant. The kitchen was excellent and many a fine dish was created using your comprehensive equipment! What a change to find a kitchen for cooks.

"We had a great holiday, fell in love with the island of Menorca all made the better with a fabulous Villa to spend the week in. The owners were so helpful throughout and everything ran smoothly. The villa was roomy, well equipped, fun shaped pool, always able to find sun or shade. Happy to recommend to anyone."

"We had simply wonderful time in your amazing villa. Absolutely nothing to fault with a much needed holiday that more than lived up to our expectations."

"We were very taken with Dagrum and spent a very happy week there. It certainly is in a wonderful position and we were blessed with excellent weather. Our friends are keen birdwatchers, so the Nature Reserve was very popular. We found the villa very comfortable and well equipped."

Great location to escape the world yet not far from Es Grau and Mahon

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in August. The villa is in an excellent location, just 10 minutes from the airport so you can hire a car and be settled in in no time.

With it's 360° views, you can watch the sunrise over Es Grau whilst making a cuppa with the best view I've ever seen from a kitchen window! The kitchen looks new and has everything you'd need. The villa is very private with an enclosed pool and great sun terrace to watch the sunset with a glass or two. The villa is big and plenty of room for all to have their own space. All maintained to a high standard.

The villa is on a nature reserve and there are great walks around the lake with lots of wildlife to see. Es Grau is just a few minutes away with a great beach especially for children where the water is very shallow even quite a long way out. We hired Kayaks and explored the nearby coves, bays and the island opposite stopping off to snorkel.

Tamarind was the best and friendliest place to eat in Es Grau and highly recommend il Porto in Mahon.

Highly recommended.

Amazingly positioned hilltop villa

  • 5 of 5

My family with two children (13 and 7) loved our stay here. It's location is the real star - atop a hill in the Parque Natural de s'Albufera des Grau, 360 degree views over beautiful wild olive vegetation and to the the distant Es Grau harbour and sea beyond. Those wanting peace, quiet and immersed in nature should look no further - we saw tortoises, booted eagles, osprey (we think) and peregrine falcons right from the villa. Its also an ideal location to explore the island, which we covered a lot of it. Whilst it has no garden as such, the outside space consists of terraces to three sides of the villa and a walled pool area, being surrounded by so much natural vegetation didn't feel like you were missing out on the extra space a garden would bring. The pool itself is deep and slopes quite steeply from the shallow end, (which my 7 year old could stand in) those with small children who are not strong swimmers should make sure they have arm-bands or flotation devices and be supervised. A bar to hold onto along the wall of the shallower end would be useful. The pool deck and sun terrace receives the sun throughout the day. Inside is perfectly fine and comfortable with perhaps too many (4) bedrooms for our needs. The bathrooms have been recently upgraded and I understand from the owner that the kitchen will be next to be upgraded. All the equipment you need inside (and out) for a very relaxing, private and peaceful holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. The kitchen is being done this winter (2015/16). The quote has already been accepted! Thanks also for the idea about the bar in the swimming pool to hold on to. We will investigate the possibility of doing this.

Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent two lovely weeks in Dagrum. The villa was all we hoped it would be and more. It didn't disappoint. Sarah the agent and her parents were very helpful when we had a small problem on a Sunday. If you want peace and quiet and abundant wildlife Dagrum is well worth a visit. A lovely family home.

Es Grau Menorca

A lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

A lovely villa, with a great pool, clean and tidy, with everything you need and more. In a nice location, private with great views, Took my family on holiday, which included a 25 year old and a 17 year old, both enjoyed it and we all used the pool every day, weather was nice, went out off season, but still plenty to see and do, went scuba diving and horse riding, you will need a car, but this is made clear when booking, booking was easy, with direct contact with the owners of the villa, would highly recommend this villa and using this site to others.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind comments Sue. Horse riding and the nearby Cami de Cavalls round the island path for walkers, horse and bike riders is becoming ever more popular.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Mahon at 10 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Mahon at 8 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Son Parc at 10 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Es Grau at 4 Kilometres Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

Bird Watching - S'Albufera is a migration stopping off point and during the spring and autumn hosts a remarkable variety of species. Visitors in spring have reported seeing 26 from the house!

Walking - Very close to the Cami de Cavalls round the island path. We make a great base from which to explore this.

The extremely family friendly beach at Es Grau is less than 10 mins drive away. For the more energetic there are walks from here along the coast in both directions as well as through the Parc Natural. Otherwise there is easy access to everything that Menorca has to offer, all within less than an hours drive.

A car is essential. The airport at Mahon is 11km away, under 30 mins by car. The centre of Mahon itself is about 8km and generally less than 15 minutes drive. Ciudedella, at the other end of the island is 50km and less than 1 hour away.

Further Details:

While Es Grau is nominally a fishing village it has become very much a holiday village. But the majority are local Menorcans or Spanish who have weekend/holiday houses here and have done so for generations. There is a small supermarket, beach shop, and a couple of bars and restaurants. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed. More modern well stocked supermarkets are easily accessible in Mahon.

Available on the island are pretty much any activity you care to name. In particular we are 30 minutes away from Minorca Sailing at Ses Salines. They provide a host of sailing activities for young and old. Also available are horse riding, diving and a host of other water based activities.

Walking is an effort in the summer months but when cooler there are some exquisite trails, particularly along the coast.

S’Albufera comes alive with birds in the autumn as a significant migration stop and for the bird watcher becomes a bit of paradise.

  • Notes on accommodation: Cots and high chairs can be arranged on request. All bedrooms have oscillating fans. In winter electric heaters are available. The house is built on the top of a hill, not a flat plot. This means that there are changes in level on each floor. The bedrooms are on the ground floor and the living rooms are above. While this is ideal for catching the views and a breeze it does mean stairs both inside and outside down to the pool. The pool can be closed off with gates for safety when small children are about. If you do have real problems with stairs, be warned! We have had all ages staying, from a matter of months to late 80’s and never had a problem with accessibility but it does just require a bit more care and a bit more time. Owned by the same family since built in the '70's. Outside: The pool area is the focus for many. Re-lined and with the terrace relaid in 2013 it is a stunning feature. The irregular shaped pool is some 8m by 5m sloping from about 1m to 2m in depth. Surrounded by terraces on two levels with sunloungers, parasol, table and chairs there is always some shade available. The built in barbecue is sadly ineffective but a more portable one can be used either here or on the upper terraces. These are either accessed up stairs from the pool area or directly from the sitting room. To the south is a covered terrace with a sofa and small table and chairs. To the west an open dining terrace which benefits from the best of the views is partially shaded. Table and seating for eight makes this a great place for any meal but watching the sun go down over Monte Toro is particularly magical. Off this area and with steps leading down to the pool is another sun terrace with sunloungers and a parasol. Not being overlooked means that all is enjoyed in the utmost privacy. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen provided. Changed weekly. Cleaning can be arranged on request and at an additional charge. Other: Dining room: Circular, high vaulted ceiling, triple aspect room with table and chairs for 8.
