About Gabrielle Lees

We lived here until 2011, and unable to sell it when we moved down south for work, we have now converted it to a holiday let. We love this house and come up as often as we can.

Large village house which was great for our family Christmas

  • 3 of 5

This is a great house for a family get-together. We spent a very enjoyable Christmas and the spaces in the house meant that elderly parents and young children could have room to move and socialise. The large dining table makes meals a real occasion but the kitchen table helps when younger ones need to eat sooner.

The village is a delight with a couple of great pubs and small shops. Superb walking nearby and this is a great base to explore the Peak District

Amazing place, we all loved it and will definitely stay again!

  • 5 of 5

The house is huge and weird and winderful! We were there for a Christmas get together with the extended family (12 people) and it accommodated us perfectly. The owners put up a Christmas tree and fairy lights throughout and with the gold front room and real fires it was the perfect atmosphere. There were beautiful walks all round the village and 4 cosy village pubs (all accepted the dog!) and the locals super friendly.

Wonderful, quirky house!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with 7 other adults and 3 kids all under 6 years old. The kids had an amazing time discovering all the rooms and toys on offer! The adults enjoyed relaxing in the various communal areas and garden :D

This is a really quirky property with loads of character, it felt like a real home away from home. Unlike some places I've stayed in previously, I instantly felt comfortable here.

There are a couple of pubs within less than a minutes walk, we would really recommend the Alton Bridge pub, which is down the road from the house, about 5 minutes walk away, though it's a decent uphill walk on the way back!

In summary, a great stay enjoyed by all!

Had a fantastic time staying in the property for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

A holiday rental that is definitely someone's home rather than a standard holiday let. With all of the hosts individual furnishings it is a unique place to stay with a big open fire to keep you warm in the winter. Village of Alton has lots of character with many pubs to frequent, lovely walking in the surrounding countryside and woods. We had an excellent time.

Additional pricing information

Fees No additional mandatory fees
Refundable Damage Deposit £150

Booking Notes:
Book via website or by e mailing. Refundable 'good house keeping' deposit of £150 against damage or unacceptable mess. 25% on booking, full payment 8 weeks prior to arrival.
Please note this is a terraced house with children next door, so although a certain amount of noise is perfectly acceptable, and the walls are thick (castle stone!) it is not suitable for large groups of adults only if think you may be noisy after pub times.

Changeover Day:
Friday or Monday, but flexibility for short breaks. Weekend rates are the same for 2 or 3 nights.

Notes on prices:
Weekend only stays are very welcome all through the year. These range from £395 to £640 per weekend - REGARDLESS OF 2 or 3 NIGHTS. We know some people are unable to use a 3rd night, but you will be able to have use of the house all day Sunday rather than having to leave in the morning. This pricing arrangement is very difficult to capture in the new automated system, so please double check cost with us (most weekends in spring /summer are around £600, and winter around £400. If the quote you have received is way above this, it is probably a mistake). Please enquire about midweek rates as they are cheaper out of school holidays. These prices can be viewed on owners website.
20% reduction on the price for groups of 6 people or less, and cheaper deals for artists and workers needing accommodation in the area.
Groups of more than 8 adults will be charged an extra £35 per person per stay.
Dogs £15 per stay.
