Lovely sunny pine lodge set in the former orchard of Nether Cairnyard and overlooking hills and fields. Immaculate, comfortable and warm accommodation. With outdoor decking area to the front. One double bedroom and one twin bedroom. Large bathroom with WC, bath and shower. Lovely dining kitchen fully equipped to meet all your needs. The living area is furnished with two new very comfortable 2 seater leather recliner sofas and Sky TV free channels. Electric heating by pre-payment meter regulated by Scottish Power. Responsible pet owners welcome.

Hi I am Laura. I have owned this lovely property for 10 years and have spent many enjoyable times there myself. My numerous guests have been very positive in their comments about rowan lodge. I am an outdoor person who loves nature. I understand that many people do not want to leave their pets behind when they go on holiday. Rowan lodge welcomes well behaved pets including, but not exclusively, cats and dogs.

Why Laura Ditchburn chose Dumfries

If you love the outdoors and nature this is the place for you. Wonderful views from the cabin over the hills and fields are what sold the lodge to me in the first place. The Solway coast and all its amenities are easliy accesible from the cabin. There are plenty of cycling tracks for both mountain and touring bikes, lots of golf courses, the walking is superb as is the wildlife.

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy the peace and quiet of this lovely spot with unbroken views over hills and farms. Enjoy watching the numerous species of birds that feed in the garden. Look out for the woodpecker which lives in the big tree next door and for the kestrel who sometimes swoops down to play havoc with the other birds. Bring your bike for great cycling. A lock up shed is available. Bring your dog for great walks and your golf clubs to play some great courses or just to knock about at the driving range down the road.Dont miss Loch Arthur creamery, cafe and farm shop less than 1 mile away for wonderful organic food.

Notes on accommodation: This is the perfect holiday if you enjoy the countryside, birds, wildlife, cycling, walking and golf. The town of Dumfries where there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants is only 5 miles away. Outside: Outside there is a quiet, private, sunny decking area with table and chairs overlooking fields and hills. There is barbeque equipment for your use. You can walk into Mabie forest from Cairnyard without setting foot on a road. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels & Bed linen are included.

Peace and quite!

We enjoyed our stay here. Excellent base for touring the area and had some lovely meals out.

Recommend the Nith hotel in Glencable, Casa Mia and Crumb restaurants in Dumfries.

Plenty to see and do in this region of Scotland. Wish we had more time,

Fabulous base to tour Dumfries and Galloway

The lodge has everything you need!

If you want to explore the region this is a great base from which to do so.

If you want a relaxing break then this place is ideal.

Try out the farm shop and cafe at Beeswing about 3/4 mile further along road. After coffee travel over to Kippford or Rockcliffe then lunch at the Steamboat inn at Crasethorn.

We were fortunate in the weather but even in the rain there are so many places to visit so much to see and do.

When returning to the lodge after a day out what better than to sit on the decking in the peace and quiet watching the birds feeding along the hedgerows just at the back of the lodge.

we could not find one negative point about our stay . 👍

The beautiful Solway coast is 10 miles away. Sandy Hills beach is safe, clean and very beautiful. Kipford, a harbour vilage on the Solway estuary is also 10 miles away, there are good family pubs and beautiful walks along the coast.


Dumfires Railway Station is in the centre oif the town, 5 miles distant.

Glasgow airport is 75 miles away. Good local transport but a car is essential.


Dumfries 5 miles. Dalbeattie 7 miles. Solway coast 10 miles. Threave Castle & Gardens 10 miles. Caerlaverock Castle 14 miles.

There are plenty of shops, restaurants and banks in nearby Dumfries.

There are several large major supermarkets nearby including Tesco & Morrisons. This area is renowned for its mountain bike trails, at all levels.

The Red Kite trail is nearby. Lots of lakes, rivers and lochs for boating and fishing.
