Modern House With Pigeonaire A Private Pool And Fantastic Extensive Rural Views

Updated: 29-Jun-2016
Private House in Salviac, Lot/Dordogne border, France In A Rural Location On The Edge Of Salviac, 10 Minutes Walk From The Village Centre

Built 19 years ago and owned by us since 2003, Combe du Bos is a delightful house offering spacious well planned accommodation. The house is well furnished and equipped to the highest standard.

There is a large flat screen HD television and English Sky satellite television is installed and there is a wide range of books and games for the use of guests both adult and children.

The views from the terrace and from the first floor master bedroom suite are quite simply amazing. There is a large area for car parking in addition to the grounds which are ideal for children. There is also a swing combination play unit for children sheltered from the sun under the trees.

A new covered terrace extension with over the table lighting was constructed early in 2013 which ensures that there is a really large shaded area for eating and of course with the new extension this area may now be used during inclement weather should you get a shower (which I hope not!)

There are sockets for UK and French plugs under the new extension for anything from a toaster in the mornings to an MP3 player or a phone charger.

A new covered car port was constructed in the Spring of 2014 which matches the terrace extension constructed the previous year and provides shade and protection for your vehicle.

In the autumn of 2014 the parking area was surfaced thus enlarging it and ensuring level firm ground for vehicles.

There is plenty of alternative shaded parking for my guests arriving with either two or three cars.

The Poolguard pool alarm may be used or not as you wish. Full details are in the information folder which is in the lounge.

I want you to be absolutely confident in your renting of my lovely home in Salviac. You are welcome to telephone me or carry out any check that you wish to make and if you wish I will supply you with personal references from both the UK and France.

The advantage of hiring Combe du Bos over others for your holiday is that this is, quite simply, a home away from home.

There are furnishings fittings and equipment that you would never ever get in most rentals and because it is a home my guests respect it as such and it is for this reason that I have so many returning guests.

Please do not hesitate to call me or e-mail if there is any information that I have not covered.

Would you also please note that as a general condition I will only take reservations for either 7 or 14 days which I am sure you will understand but if you require an odd period then I would consider charging for the period you are in the house and a reduced charge for the period up to the following weekend subject to availability.

Please feel free to contact me and discuss your requirements.

About the Owner

Combe du Bos has been owned by us since 2003 and has been used and greatly loved by all our family and friends who have stayed there.

It will not be impersonal staying there as family photographs abound. Now we are getting older my husband and I don't spend as much time in Salviac and the grandchildren are getting older and want to "do their own thing".

Having said that my husband would happily move to Salviac permanently but the pull of children and grandchildren in the UK would prevent me from doing that although we still holiday regularly in Salviac at the beginning and end of the season.

I am happy to send any more photographs should you wish to see them as hundreds have been taken as you can imagine so please do not hesitate to contact me.

Peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

This villa is set in a quiet, peaceful rural location about a Km outside a sleepy Salviac . The owners info is "what you read is what you get" - detailed and accurate. The local bread shop is very good but for supermarket shopping you must go to Gourdon. The local store has only the basic needs. The pool is great when the sun is too warm. The house interior is spotless and the fittings are "home from home" .The local agent (English Lady) is knowledgeable and willing to help when asked.

It is necessary to drive out to the attractions and restaurants of the Dordogne valley but there are many things to do and see within a twenty Km radius of Salviac.

I would thoroughly recommend this villa, the owners and the Agent in the Salviac area . It is easily reached from the AutoRoute.

The only drawbacks , the villa is set on a hill and that means an uphill driveway - it is steep but after the first climb - you don't really notice it - and the pool is not protected which means that young children have to be supervised.

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you liked Combe du Bos and that you had a good holiday. I try to give everyone the comforts that they would if they were in their own home which is what I am sure they appreciate and why I have so many return reservations.

From the Owner

We chose The Lot as we knew the area well through holidays in the 1960's and 1970's. It is a simply amazing area with so many activities whether you are active or not. So many places to visit whether you are religious or not, and wonderful for children with the castles, water borne activities, forest adventure areas and animal parks. You really must visit the monkey forest in Rocamadour where you walk amongst the monkeys and feed them - what an experience. Brilliant for young and old alike. It is a superb area for walking and also for gastronomy and wine lovers.

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

If you particularly want to swim in the sea it will take about 4 hours to the South of France, but why would you want to when you have a lovely pool and everything you need at Combe du Bos?

The nearest low cost airport is Bergerac which is about 90 minutes drive away. Cars may be hired from there easily but booking would be necessary in peak season.

There is also a new airport at Brive which opened in 2011 and is 50 minutes away and the flights from there go to London City & Stansted.

The house is 550 miles from Calais and apart from the Periferique in Paris and the last 35 minutes is all motorway driving unless you wish to take one of the many alternative routes through France.

Salviac is 15 minutes from the ancient walled town of Gourdon with it's large range of shops and choice of supermarkets.

Cahors is 40 minutes to the South and Sarlat, the ancient capital of the Dordogne is 40 minutes to the North.

The chateaux and castles that this area is famous for are numerous and all within easy distance. The River Dordogne with its canoing through the famous gorges is about 15 minutes away and famous sites such as Rocamadour, Figeac etc are all within easy distance.

Further Details:

There is a bank with 24/7 ATM machine and a post office in Salviac along with a good range of shops. Several eateries such as the local Auberge and one extremely good restaurant, La Casserole are available and as Salviac is in the heart of the best gastronomique area in France famous particularly for fois gras you will be spoilt for choice should you wish to eat out.

Vinyards abound in this area and a lovely day out can be spent sampling the quality local wine.

There are dozens of small medieval villages as you can imagine, and in the summer they all hold their own Fetes with music and dancing as well as eating and drinking.

Salviac holds it's own Fete over the last weekend in July with funfair, outdoor concerts and various fun activities which vary from year to year.

Weekly produce markets are held not only in Salviac but all other local villages. Of special interest is the weekly Sunday morning market in the square of Cazals, the next village, which is about 15 minutes away and well worth a visit particularly to stock up on fruit, vegetables, local honey and other local products.

There are lots of information booklets, maps and books on local attractions in the lounge of Combe du Bos and also a Tourist Information office in Salviac so if you need any further information they are the ones to help you.

From the Owner

The peace and quite of rural France cannot be bettered. There is no residual light so the stars at night have to be seen to be believed. There is nothing quite like laying on the comfortable loungers at night star spotting, watching the space station moving overhead or spotting shooting stars amongst the lights of the milky way. It is a privilege to own a house in such a beautiful village in such a wonderful area of France. Eating and drinking in comfort on a balmy evening whilst being able to see those swimming in the floodlit pool is a pleasure you can't beat.

Combe du Bos is not the normal type of rental property but is quite simply a home away from home with everything that you could possibly require. Everything from the furnishings to the kitchen equipment is of the best possible standard. Combe du Bos is managed for us during the summer by a local professional management company which is run and staffed by an Englishman. Outside: The grounds of the house are extensive and include oak woodland and grassed areas. The terracing is extremely spacious with plenty of covered shady areas in addition to uncovered areas for sunbathing. There are exterior wall lights for evening BBQ's etc in addition to the electric candelabra. There is also a granite table and fitted benches on the further terrace area at the far end of the pool. As the front of the house has an arched covered area there is also a white cane settee and chairs for those quiet moments and during the evenings. The private swimming pool is 10x5 metres and the shallow end is 1.6 metres deep grading to 2 metres deep so ideal for serious swimmers! The pool is entered by ladder into the shallow end. THE POOL IS ALARMED FOR FULL CHILD SAFETY. The pool is South facing and has a solar cover which, if you pull over at night or when you are out will retain the heat of the day. The pool also has underwater lighting so is lovely for that midnight dip. Utility Room: The automatic washing machine and the tumble dryer are in the ground floor bathroom. There are of course outside washing lines if you prefer. These are set under the trees so that your washing doesn't go hard in the intense heat. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels for the bathrooms and pool towels and all linen is included. The house will be professionally cleaned on changeover days and large medium and small house towels left for each guest. If any more towels are used then the cost of the extra laundry will be deducted from the deposit. You may of course wash and dry the extra ones yourselves Other: There is a large garage/cellar running right under the house and a plant room with all the machinary for the pool and the pool cleaner. You may put your car in here if you wish but a new covered car port near the house is much more convenient.
