Overview

About the property

5 bedrooms, vineyard views, heated Saltwater infinity pool, Wifi

Take in the luscious sights and scents of the Provence countryside with an escape to your own private villa near Le Mas in the southeast of France. The Le Mas Villa is a secluded retreat that is surrounded by 17 hectares (42 acres) of award winning vineyards, and features breathtaking views of the Massif des Maures, a protected national park. You’ll enjoy a personal resort that’s miles away from ordinary, thanks to a private heated saltwater pool (only heated from the end of May until the end of September), multiple balconies with vineyard vistas and lush manicured gardens that feature all the joyous scents of Provence – lavender, rosemary, wisteria, olive and mulberry trees. The ensuing estate is beautifully secluded, with a gated entrance at the end of a 500 metre drive. However, guests can easily explore the charming villages in the area where fresh local markets, lovely shops and medieval buildings all set the scene for memorable days of exploration. Don’t miss nearby Vence and Gourdon, often considered among the most beautiful villages in Provence. Or visit the famous village of Grasse to shop for perfume. Drive south to the coast where Nice, Antibes, Saint-Tropez and countless beautiful vistas await.

Inside, you will enjoy all the comforts of a high quality resort with amenities and ample room for families to spread out and enjoy the scene. Villa Le Mas boasts 5 bedrooms, with accommodation for up to 13 people, which feature peaceful views of the garden, the rear courtyard and private pool, or the acres of vineyards from private balconies. All bedrooms also have en-suite bathrooms to ensure a comfortable stay. For family gatherings, the expansive kitchen is perfect for whipping up fresh meals from the local markets. Enjoy dining in the indoor dining area near the terrace or at an outside table in the gracious courtyard. A refined living area with ample seating and a charming piano will also be a favourite gathering space, although sunny days at the pool and exploring gardens will entice you to spend leisure time outside. After a long stroll through the vineyard or a full day of discovering the beauty of southern France, you will agree that life is always sweeter in Provence.

Why Susan chose La Garde-Freinet

This unique place feels far from the stresses and strains of life yet it is quite accessible, only 15 minutes from 2 villages and just 35 minutes from the beaches and hustle and bustle of Saint Tropez. Stay here and you can have it all!

The vineyard is yours to explore while you are with us, there are 20 hectares of vines and unbeatable views. Step outside out to our beautiful heated saltwater pool, overlooking the vines and olive trees and our garden filled with Mediterranean plants and trees, and our terrace, running the full length of the house, is the ultimate relaxing spot for a chilled glass of our rose as the sun goes down over the hills.

What makes this villa unique

Your holiday will be utterly tranquil, no traffic noise or disturbance, plenty of space to spread out and relax. La Garde Freinet, our closest village just 15 minutes' drive away, has something for everybody, all year round, from regular art exhibitions to excellent walking tours and summer nature and craft workshops run by local Heritage Guides. Europe is celebrated each year in May with a lively festival and on the 14th July, the mayor offers all residents and visitors a friendly glass of local wine in the town square. In October visitors flock to the village for its unique and long-running Chestnut Festival, La Garde Freinet being surrounded by chestnut forest and so a major producer.

Coast/Beach:

Local beaches are a 30-minute drive from the house, and include some of the most unspoilt on the Mediterranean coast. Great for kids is our closest, in Port Grimaud, we love the slightly further but beautifully preserved La Croix Valmer with its rock pools and clear blue waters. St Tropez is a 35-minute drive or why not relax and take the ferry from Port Grimaud and catch the famous St Tropez market? The immediate surroundings are located in the most fabulous cycling country, enjoy quiet, winding roads with lots of beautifully shaded parts, the only sounds to accompany you on your way up to La Garde Freinet will be the crickets! Bring your own bike or hire a road bike or mountain bike locally at a very a reasonable rate. Keen walkers will also be spoilt for choice with abundant trails and footpaths everywhere in the area, simply walk out of the door and take your pick!

Our nearest village is La Garde Freinet, this charming hilltop Provencal paradise brimming with local colour, a twice-weekly market, numerous independent cafes and shops, as well as regular cultural events. It is located in the lushly forested Massif des Maures, which forms the gateway to the Gulf of St Tropez. For us, La Garde-Freinet typifies Provence with its winding narrow streets, medieval houses and local market. But this is no sleepy village! Whilst it certainly enjoys the relaxed pace of life associated with this part of France, there’s always something going on here, boasting two bakeries / patisseries, two butchers’ shops, two grocery stores, a post office, school, antique shops and galleries, as well as shops selling locally made preserves and honey and boutiques selling clothing, jewellery and perfume. There are plenty of friendly cafes and bars to while away the afternoons and you will certainly not go hungry here, there are no fewer than 7 restaurants in the village as well as many more within a short drive. The nearby village of Grimaud (9 km) is slightly larger with its own charming sights and crumbling castle perched on top of the hillside, and of course the unmissable Saint-Tropez (just 21 km from the village) offers spectacular beaches, fabulous shopping and people spotting opportunities galore.

La Garde Freinet has something for everybody, all year round, from regular art exhibitions to excellent walking tours and during the summer nature and craft workshops run by local Heritage Guides. The village dates back to the 8th century, when it was a fort built by the Saracens to launch their raids in the surrounding Provencal countryside. You can still explore the remains of this fort and the medieval ruins in the hills above the village. There are also several charming fountains and wash-houses to be seen dotted around the village. Aside from its chestnut production, cork was La Garde Freinet's main industry in the 19th century, its golden age. Although cork is no longer harvested here, visitors can still sit in the shade of a cork tree and relax with a glass of chilled local rosé listening to the crickets! In more recent times, La Garde-Freinet in more recent times became a popular watering hole for international celebrities and its resident population remains surprisingly diverse.

Travel

La Garde Freinet and the surrounding areas are best explored by car, the roads are winding but the scenery is breathtaking! Car hire can be arranged from Nice or Marseilles airports, each equidistant, roughly a 55 minutes’ drive. There is also a major train station with TGV link a 25 -minute drive away. Exploring the local terrain can also be done on foot, there are a plethora of walks in the surrounding hills of all levels, which for nature lovers are a fantastic way of discovering the uniquely preserved Mediterranean flora and fauna. We will be happy to recommend some to you on arrival.

Distances:

The closest local villages are charming La Garde Freinet 15 minutes by car and the bustling market town of Vidauban 10 minutes by car. It is also within easy reach of Grimaud 20 minutes St Maxime 25 minutes and St Tropez 35 minutes.

Further Details:

The property benefits from live-in gardiens, whose accommodation is located 300m from the house and not within sight. They will welcome you on arrival and can also provide extra services such as fresh bread and croissants, as well as babysitting and airport pick-ups, upon arrangement.
