Beautiful trullo with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and large pool in a gorgeous rural setting and easy access to the coast

The Trullo has been carefully renovated to conserve its rustic charm while adding every modern comfort and a big helping of Italian style. It has two large bedrooms that can be set up as doubles or twins, both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen with a small table, and a living room with TV, dvd player and Xbox 360.

There is a marble dining table for al fresco meals, two shady gazebos for lounging, a large swimming pool, a professional trampoline, and the kitchen garden produces seasonal organic veg for guests to help themselves from.

Families are particularly well-catered for with the trampoline and swings for children to play on and just about every bit of kit you need for babies and children supplied. The swimming pool is behind a low wall and is accessed through a gate to prevent small children from wandering in.

Although we're set in rolling farmland, the town is just five minutes drive away and the coast can be reached in 30 minutes.

Why Claire Knapton James chose Ceglie Messapica

A keen diver, Andy holidays with a friend every year to take in some diving and 2004 took them to Puglia. Taken by the countryside strewn with olive trees, the beautiful Adriatic coast and the friendliness of the locals, Andy returned full of hope that this was where our destinies lay. Less than a month later we flew back to view properties and on the last day we found what we were looking for – an old farmhouse and stables set in five acres of land with stunning views of the surrounding Itria Valley.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Ecological principles guided the redevelopment and running of the property. We used reclaimed building materials where possible, we harness natural energy through the installation of solar panels, and recycle our water and waste. These principles extend to the land which we farm organically.

Rustic Puglia is a magical looking Trullo, cool and comfortable on the inside and surrounded by abundant grounds with animals, shady eating areas and a stunning pool. We stayed with our 3 children aged 4 and under and they had the time of their lives. They loved the freedom to roam the grounds, petting the friendly dogs and playing with Claire & Andy's 3 lovely children. The local lidos were clean with sandy beaches and warm, clear waters. The local food was delicious and restaurants always welcomed us with our children and we were inundated with compliments about them throughout our trips, Puglia is very welcoming to those with young children. We had a fabulous time and we'll definitely come back.

We’re closest to the beaches at Ostuni and Torre Canne, about 30 minutes drive away. There are public beaches which are free to access and some have cafes and restaurants backing onto them, and also miles of ‘lidos’ – managed areas of beach where, for a small entrance fee, you get covered parking, loos and showers, bars and restaurants, umbrellas and sunbeds for hire, and lifeguards. Pilone, Lido Bizzaro, Lido Boscoverde and Lido Morelli are all excellent beaches.


The property is 45 minutes drive from Brindisi airport, an hour and a half from Bari and about three hours’ drive from Naples. For guests who come by train we offer an environmentally-friendly 15% discount. However, a car is essential once you’re here.


Ceglie Messapica is our nearest town located 4km away. The towns of Cisternino, Martina Franca, Ostuni and Locorotondo are about 20 minutes drive away, and Alberobello and Fasano are about half an hours drive.

Meet and greet - For guests arriving at Bari or Brindisi airport we can meet you on arrival, assist you with collecting your hire car and lead the way to the property. If you prefer, we can also meet you in Ceglie Messapica or Cisternino. Payable locally (no charge from Ceglie or Cisternino).

Welcome hamper - The kitchen comes equipped with bread, milk, butter, coffee, olive oil and the ingredients to make a simple meal so that you can feast whatever time you arrive. No charge.

Shopping - It’s our own take on Ocado – simply give us your shopping list and we can deliver it to your door. Payable locally.

Pick Your Own - Help yourself to herbs and veg from our raised beds and to fruit from the fruit trees dotted around the land. Keep your eyes open for wild asparagus, fennel and spinach too. We’re also keeping chickens for eggs, available when the hens oblige! No charge.

Personal chef - On request a local chef can cater for you at home. Payable locally.

Babysitting - A babysitter can be arranged for guests with children. Payable locally.

Maid service - Additional cleaning can be requested. Payable locally.

Linen - Fresh linen and towels are provided on a Saturday but guests who require extra changes can request this. Payable locally.

For Families - Our family-friendly setting and services will help give you a break as well as your children, and we hope that we become your holiday home from home in Puglia. Plus we’re on hand to direct you to the best beaches and playgrounds, and Rosie, Lucas and Syra are always keen to share their toys. We also offer a range of equipment and services which we hope will make your holiday a little more comfortable. But it’s the little extras that we think will keep your children occupied, such as collecting freshly-laid eggs, making friends with our dogs and cats, helping out with chores on the land or letting off steam on the trampoline and then cooling off in the pool.
