About the property

Farmhouse in Sidbury, Nr. Sidmouth, South Devon, England - Secluded Farmhouse In Idyllic Location Just 5 Miles To The Beach And The Town

Situated in a secluded location at the top of a private lane, the property is ideal for people seeking a peaceful holiday in beautiful surroundings. The house nestles into the hillside and has wonderful views over the valley and the surrounding hills. This is a brilliant place for star gazing and bird watching. Although not a working farm, it is surrounded by the fields of a neighbouring dairy farmer. The farmhouse stands in two acres of land along with the owners’ house and a converted barn which is used as an artist's studio. (The owners' house is about 30m away and scarcely visible from the farmhouse.) There is a large garden and a private south-facing terrace with garden furniture for outdoor meals. The farmhouse has been imaginatively restored. It combines the charm of an old property, with its exposed beams and open fireplace, with the convenience of modern appliances. The interior is particularly spacious and it is comfortably furnished and decorated in light colours.

What a gorgeous place to spend Christmas! We thoroughly enjoyed cooking in the beautiful kitchen with its wonderful views over the countryside, and then curling up beside the roaring fire. Thank you Susan and Stuart for an excellent week in your lovely house. Great days out in Topsham, Sidmouth and Lyme Regis.

This is an idyllic retreat and we had perfect weather for walking part of the south west coastal path, from Exmouth to Charmouth, superb. Thank you for providing such a charming and well planned home for visitors.

We also appreciated the wonderful night skies, and lit excellent fires on several cooler nights.

We have enjoyed the most relaxing and peaceful holiday ever at this beautiful farmhouse. Just an assortment of birds and the cows for neighbours. We had the best cream tea we’ve ever had at Newton Poppleford. Hope to return to this comfortable hideaway.

Warm, Cosy, Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely family holiday in this delightful cottage. It is in a fairly remote position which lends itself to peace and quiet, and yet is only 10-15 mins from the bustling town of Sidmouth. The views across the Devonshire countryside are astounding and the cottage itself is warm, well equipped and cosy. We enjoyed making a log fire each evening and playing the assorted family board games, and both my children (12 & 15) loved their time at the cottage and are very much looking forward to our return. The owners were very welcoming and helpful - on hand if needed but keeping a respectful distance. On the whole - a great base for a relaxing holiday exploring Devon.

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. We stayed for a week for our honeymoon and can not recommend it enough.

Excellent facilities, clean, spacious and so quiet!

We will certainly be back.

beautiful, peaceful property

  • 5 of 5

This is an absolutely lovely holiday home that deserves 5 stars. The interior is gorgeous, cozy and very comfortable but also stylish. The Supering size bed was so comfortable and aided excellent sleep and the roll top bath was huge!

The property was very clean and everything had been thought of.

The views from the cottage were out of this world, rolling Devonshire countryside. We had a wonderful week and were sad to leave.

Beautiful and tranquil

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking to get away to an idyllic Devon countryside setting, then this is the place for you. An amazing little lane up to the farmhouse (with the owners just next door) makes you feel like you really are in the middle of nowhere. The only noise comes from the birds and sheep. We were lucky enough to have a great spotted woodpecker come to visit us at 7pm most nights!

Susan and Stuart have a beautiful set up.

Owner's Response: Thank you Kate. We live 30m from the farmhouse & are on hand if needed. But we realise that most people choose to come here to get away from it all & we respect their privacy. The woodpecker, on the other hand, is not so discreet!

What an absolute treat! We felt we were on a retreat from our busy world :-). It takes very special people to share their property and beautiful landscape with others. A truly magical place!

Fantastic/Fantastisch

  • 5 of 5

This house is a real recommendation. The kitchen (well equiped), living room, bathrooms etc. were wonderful and clean. Outside: complete silence and darkness (!) in the night. The owners Susan and Stuart: very hospitable. Briefly: a wonderful week.

Een heerlijk huis in de heuvels van Devon. Alles was in orde.
