Farmhouse In The Quiet Calvados Countryside, Come See The Stars And Hear No Cars

Updated: 24-Oct-2016
Farmhouse in Cartigny L'Epinay, Calvados, Normandy, France - Peaceful Location, Beautiful Night Skies, Within Easy Reach Of Towns, Beaches And Countryside

We purchased our farmhouse 25 years ago and have gradually renovated it to provide a light, spacious, comfortable home. It sits on it's own at the end of a single track lane in the Calvados countryside but within easy driving distance of many local attractions. The area provides opportunities for sightseeing, walking and cycling in the beautiful countryside, sporting activities and ample time for simply relaxing.

About the Owner

Bought as a family home, which we enjoyed during the long summer holidays when the children were little. We still enjoy visiting, as do they, along with family and friends as often as we can.

'Thank you so much for allowing us to rent your beautiful property. The whole family enjoyed their stay. In a word it was all 'Wonderful''. Des Turner, Aston, Herts.

Arrived back this evening after a very enjoyable break. Everybody was very impressed with the accomodation and enjoyed the surrounding countryside. Would highly recommend your house to friends. Frank Sherratt, Wirral, Merseyside.

I stayed in this lovely cottage with my sister-in-law. Whilst the cottage easily copes with a whole house party, it felt perfectly cosy for just the two of us. The property is very well equipped and comfortable and offers perfect seclusion without being too far from supermarkets and tourist attractions. The outdoor space is great with a sunny patio for meals outdoors and masses of play equipment for children and adults. There are plenty of books and DVDs and a box of info about local places to go and things to see and do. So you can relax in the cottage and garden or explore the local region.

The countryside is beautiful and visiting the Overlord Museum and the American Cemetry was very moving. Afterwards, we drove up the coast to Grand Campes where we had a delicious lunch at the Restaurant La Maree, overlooking the marina.

Further afield, we drove to Calcone to visit the Mussel Farm. This proved to be impressive in its scale, stretching from horizon to horizon when seen from the viewing point just outside the town. We happened to find a gem of a restaurant, La Ferme des Nielles, http://www.bretagne-coquillages.com/restaurant.html#_=_ , just before arriving in Calcone and dined on delicious oysters and mussels selected from their incredible seafood display.

Brilliant week

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely lovely. A family of four and a family of three had lots and lots of space. The boys of 9 had loads to do, football, pool, table tennis, general messing about. 15 year old daughter had own room, very happy. The cottage has absolutely everything you need, the pictures don't do the location and property justice. It really is beautiful, the owners have spent a lot of care and time making this into an idyllic spot to rest and relax. We could of easily spent our whole time at the cottage. However we made good use of the location, visiting D-day beaches, Bayeux tapestry, day in Paris. The cinema at Gold beach and the remains of mulberry harbour can not be recommended enough.

In the cottage is a menu for L'Authentique, a restaurant in Le Molay Littry, do yourselves a favour and go, it made our last evening really wonderful. Food and service top notch. Three course meal, two bottles of good wine, drinks for the kids - 7 people (4 adults 3 children) - 167 euro! Worth every cent. Half the fun is finding it.

Talvast was really lovely, and we are looking forward to staying again in the future. Cathy is really helpful, and very patient with any queries you may have.
