Apartments in Santa Maria, Sal Island, Cape Verde - A Beach Front Location But Only A Short Level Walk To Restaurants, Bars, Banks And Shops

The apartments are situated in the well respected Porto Antigo 2 complex. The well tended gardens are ablaze with colour from the abundance of tropical plants that surround the central swimming pool, and this opens onto the white sands of Santa Maria Beach. The beach is a mecca for windsurfing and kitesurfing, fishing, scuba diving and swimming. Turtles return year after year to lay eggs in the sands of Sal island, and a fantastic conservation programme is in operation. During the nesting season you can arrange to go on night patrol, and even see baby turtles hatch and return to the sea. Boat trips can be organised from the pier to go fishing or sailing. Whales and dolphins frequent the waters of Sal, and are regularly seen. The fishing trips can be game fishing, or a few hours in a local wooden boat. Scuba diving can be booked from several outlets on the beach, and depart from the local pier. Or if you just want to chill, free sunbeds are available around the pool.

About the Owner

We are Andrew and Lorraine and we have a 12 year old daughter called Poppy. We like places away from the mass tourist market. We liked the idea of an up and coming destination with year round sunshine and only 6 hours from England.

Since we have been visiting Sal we have become friends with alot of the 'Ex Pats' and locals. My daughter always plays with the local children and loves to learn how to catch fish, and play in the sea.

We have visited Santiargo, and are hoping to visit the other islands soon.

We enjoy the seafood, and our late afternoon drink in 'Q' beach bar next to the complex.

You will certainly not be disappointed, this apartment no 56 on the beach has every thing you want, the views are outstanding, beach sea and pool. Lots of restuarants, everything was in walking distance, can't wait till next year.

Absolutely Perfect

We have just returned from 2 amazing weeks in Lorraine's gorgeous apartment. The location literally could not be any better, just a few feet from the beach and right next to the immaculately kept private pool area, with shops, restaurants and the bakery within a short walk.

There are 3 decent sized bedrooms, a large kitchen/diner/lounge and a shower room with bidet. The jewel in the crown for us was the huge patio with views over the beach and sea and, to the side, the pool. I'm already missing my early morning cuppa out there before the rest of the family awoke!

This is clearly a well kept family home which has a great assortment of cooking equipment (there's no oven but there is a microwave/grill, a George Foreman grill and a sandwich toaster) plus tons of local information, books, DVDs (not that we ever sat inside to be able to watch them!) and an assortment of games.

On site, all the staff were helpful and attentive and Lorraine was incredibly efficient throughout the whole process, from booking, through to advice whilst we were there. She also arranged for us to be collected in style from the airport as it was my son's 14th birthday: Alex and Stefan who picked us up were a great source of local info and lovely guys too. Alex sings in many of the local bars 6 nights a week and is well worth seeking out for an enjoyable evening's entertainment.

We thought the apartment was the best in Santa Maria - and judging by the number of people who admired it as they passed, we were not the only ones!

This was our second visit to Sal but our first to this apartment, but I'm certain we'll be returning.

Best apartment of Santa Maria

Dear Lorraine,

We came back a few days ago and already miss your apartment, what a wonderful place to stay!

You said it's the best apartment and it is! During our stay we haven't seen any apartment we would have preferred above yours. The location is great, next to the beach and the pool.

Santa Maria itself was lovely too, nice people and lots of restaurants. We really enjoyed our holiday and so did our kids!

I never do reviews but this time I had to make an exception.

From the moment we booked this apartment the owners were on hand to help in every way, they were informative, helpful and friendly.

The apartment itself is spectacular, nothing is forgotten. There are plug adapters, hair dryer, dvds, games, towels, sun lounger cushions (which are well appreciated). You name it they have thought of it.

The view is fantastic, the apartment is clean, and we was only there a week and a lady came round and cleaned and changed bed and towels mid way through our stay.

Security guard on duty 24/7 although it did not seem at all like it was needed as I felt safe everywhere I went. Even the local people selling things were friendly and not "in your face" at any time.

I loved every second of my trip, I make a point of never going back to the same place twice, but think this time I may make an exception.

We initially bought for an investment, but just find Sal our home from home. We always look forward to returning and seeing the changes.

Activity and Interests

Car: not necessary


The apartments are on the beach.

Santa Maria beach has white sand and turquoise sea. The beach is a mecca for kitesurfing, windsurfing and fishing, snorkelling and swimming.

A short stroll to the pier is a must, to see the catch of the local fishermen. The best place to swim is each side of the pier.


Sal airport is approximately a 20 minute drive, and taxi's are always available outside. Please confirm price of journey with the driver. A guide price is 10 euro's.


The apartments are in the centre of Santa Maria, and all bars, restaurants, banks and shops are reachable in minutes.

Further Details:

Santa Maria has a good variety of bars and restaurants. If you want to dine on the beach there are some stunning venues. The seafood is fantastic. There are also several pizza restaurants in the town.

The bars have a welcoming and friendly feel, and several serve home cooked food. Some also show live football.

There are also very good ice cream parlours.

  • Notes on accommodation: The apartment is perfectly positioned for all that Santa Maria has to offer. The 2 bedroom apartment is a perfectly placed to enjoy the views, the lovely beach bar next door, and the town of Santa Maria. Outside: Porto Antigo 2 has fantastic tropical plants throughout the complex, with the centrepiece a large fresh water swimming pool. From the pool you look directly out to sea. Free sunbeds are available. The complex also has the benefit of 24 hour security.
