There is a huge playing field with tennis courts just behind the house - free to use. There are also severak bicycles in the hous to be at the guests' risk. No responsibility is held by the owner for use of these bicycles as they are not part of the holiday package, but you are very welcome to use them. There are some stunning bike rides all around. The area is quite flat. There is a book in the house full of information for places to visit, local restaurants, and emergency numbers. There is also a tourist information office just up by the church on the quay. They speak english and have all the information on the local area.

Don't forget the Vide Greniers (empty attics)every weekend during the summer months. They are like car boot sales but are a very french social event and a must to go and visit. The also cook chips and sausages on site. Take a glass of wine and enjoy! All information as to when and where they are held each week is available at the Tourist Information Office on the quay.

The local beaches are just a few minutes walk away. There are several sandy beaches in Barfleur and all along the coast. It is ideal for walking, cycling, golfing and/or horse riding holidays. There is Free WIFI at the house.

There are several great restaurants in Barfleur - all selling the local delicacy of Barfleur moules and St Vaast oysters.

St Vaast La Hougue is a 'must see' town only five miles away, with a great market on Saturdays. A very yachty town with great bars and restaurants. The yacht club does exceptional food. Take a visit to Tatihou island on the amphibious vehicle. Also, lay a visit to Gosselin shop inSt Vaast. It is the Fortnum and Mason of Normandy. Check out its wine cellars...

There is a sailing and diving club in Barfleur, ask for details in the Tourist Information Centre.

Gatteville Lighthouse is a short visit away, a fantastic walk too around the bay. It has 365 steps, the view at the top is literally breathtaking - not for the faint hearted.

Parc Animalier is a wonderful open air park/zoo great for kids and the adults will love it too. It is situated in Montaigu La Brisette about 10 kilometres away.

stunning house, gorgeous location

Review Submitted: June 24, 2010. Trist Chilham, Kent."My children and I recently spent a week staying in this house and can highly recommend it to anyone in need of rest and relaxation in a stunning setting. The rooms were spotlessly clean and full of super-stylish furniture. We stayed in 'the lighthouse room' and were enchanted by the way the lighthouse shone its beam into the room. It certainly made for a good night's kip - none of us had slept so soundly (or had such lovely dreams) in years. There is plenty to intrigue young families in the area - shell collecting, boat-watching, fishing, exploring rural valleys and villages. We tested out all the local bars, enjoying many a cold beer/wine/Coke on the harbour front. The local shops are extremely well stocked. We enjoyed takeaway pizzas, but best of all were home-cooked delights in the sun room - warm and comfortable.

Excellent house in great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely holiday in this welcoming and comfortable house. It is well equipped and was very clean, the electrical items were very good. There were plenty of books and videos for all ages if the weather had misbehaved, but we were incredibly lucky and had four fantastic hot and sunny days during our week in Barfleur.

We were delighted with the location, Barfleur is a charming fishing village with many beautiful sandy beaches nearby, the nicest beaches I’ve seen in years, and deserted by English standards. It is very convenient for anyone wishing to visit the D Day landing sites. We loved visiting Tatihou island from nearby St Vaast la Hougue and the Saturday market there was fantastic. The children had a fabulous time on the lovely beaches and a great day at the Cité de la Mer in nearby Cherbourg. The patisseries in Barfleur were wonderful and much appreciated. There is a Carrefour nearby.

We were a family of six, including boys aged 6 and 11 years, and 2 grandparents and we all had a great holiday.

This house is in a very good town with a harbour.the facilities and layout are excellent , ideal for our family of two grandparents two adults and two teenagers. Boulangeries shops and restaurants are all within walkable distance. It is a charming home with everything we needed and a lovely conservatory with day bed. Unspoilt beaches, vide greniers( empty attics or boot sales) cite de la mer have made this a great family holiday and we would recommend it to anybody.

Comfortable and amazingly spacious

  • 5 of 5

There were 4 generations in our group of 7 including 2and 4 year old girls and this house was perfect for our stay in every way. The description of the house in the listing was 100% accurate and the contact with the owner on numerous occasions was dealt with superbly. Barfleur was an extremely attractive location to stay within easy walking from the house to all the facilities you could want. It is very accessible to main routes to get easily to local attractions particularly the D Day beaches and museums and only 1.5 hour drive to Mont Saint Michel which is a must to visit. We would thoroughly recommend to our friends and relatives large or small numbers.

Excellent property

  • 4 of 5

This is an excellent property very near the village of Barfleur, the facilities were perfect for our family. Nearby are restaurants, shops and the beach. The property was beautifully presented and had everything for self catering, we especially loved the large dining table. The owner was very helpful and supplied her ferry discount code. The area is interesting and we had a day at Mont St Michel as well as visiting sites of World War II . I would certainly recommend this property to family and friends.
