Good Family Accommodation

There were 14 of us plus dog in our family group, ages ranged from 8 weeks to 70 years and the house suited us all with a large comfortable sitting room and great dining area that sat us all. The furnishings are comfortable, but not precious so we could relax with children about. Equipment is comprehensive with all you need, except one or two fans would have been welcome on one very hot night. Large outdoor area with two meadows and small garden. Fencing is two wires and no gate on the drive, so not fully secure for young children or dogs. Good outdoor furniture, but no loungers. A lot of trees so not easy to find sunny spots early morning and evenings but we did enjoy eating most of meals at the large outdoor tables.

Our favourite beach was Le Petit Kairon, near Granville, about 40 minutes drive. Good walks at Abbaye de Hambye. Good walking for the dog in the forest at St. Sever. Food at Cafe de Gare in Percy was great.

We were most impressed with the French health service when the baby had to spend two and a half days in hospital in St. Lo with a, thankfully mild, dose of Viral Meningitis.

Booking the house and ferry were made easy by the prompt and friendly advice from Jackie. We were met on arrival by the caretaker with everything clean and in good order. Three sets of keys, so sensible!

Definitely a house to be considered for large family holidays.

Lovely location, clean and well maintained, owners did a very good meet and greet, ensuring that we were made welcome they gave clear instructions as to where and how everything worked even providing advice to the best local restaurants which I must say turned out to be better than any other dining experience I've had whilst in France having been quite a few times previously, so no mean feat. Cycling was excellent with a couple of routes provided by the owners, roads and weather were perfect even though out of season, good bike storage and washing/airing facilities for drying your kit. All in all, very clean (wish I could have the same cleaner at home) very comfortable and very spacious. Cannot recommend this property highly enough, multi functional whether for a family holiday or a group of friends, will definitely be returning. :-)

Travel by sea - Brittany Ferries run regular services from Poole to St Malo (1¼ Hrs Drive), Portsmouth to Cherbourg (1¼ Hrs Drive), Portsmouth to Caen (ouistreham - 1 Hrs Drive), Portsmouth/Plymouth to St Malo (2 Hrs Drive), Dover to Calais. Condor Ferries run from Poole to St Malo (2 Hrs Drive), ld Lines - Portsmouth To Le Harve (1 Hr 45min Drive).

Travel by rail - Euro-tunnel.

Travel by air - Aer Lingus - Dublin To Rennes – 1½ Hours Motorway Drive To The House. Stanstead to Dinard.

Distances:

Le Mont St. Michel, France's second most popular tourist attraction after the Eiffel tower is just a half hour drive away. Other nearby tourist attractions includes the Bayeux tapestries and D-Day landing beaches.

The pretty fishing port of Honfleur, with its maze of cobbled, pedestrian-only streets and excellent seafood restaurants, is a wonderful day out. The seaside resort of Granville and the quieter, natural beach of Brehal are just half an hour away.

Further Details:

The pretty market town of Percy is just a 1 kilometre drive away and has a supermarket, shops and bars hosts a market on Saturdays selling fresh farm produce. The larger market town of Villedieu Les Poeles, 10 minutes away, has an indoor swimming pool, large weekly market selling everything from food to clothing. Villedieu has fine shops, restaurants and is famed for its pretty copper ware. Horse riding and fishing available.

  • Notes on accommodation: La Maison Du Chene, Built around the early 1800's the House is situated just outside the small village of Percy in Lower Normandy. Set in just under an acre of land in a small hamlet this house offers 6 double bedrooms, 4 with en-suites and 2 with a shared bathroom. There is a large lounge with an open granite fireplace. A spacious kitchen with breakfast table and chairs and a split level dining room which includes a study/rest area. The house offers oil fired central heating, washing machine, 12 place dishwasher, parking for 7-8 cars and a large secluded BBQ area. The village of Percy about a 3 minute drive away (or a 15 minute walk) provides a large Supermarket, Butchers, Bakers, Cash Point, Pharmacy, Petrol Station, Post Office and a couple of bars. The town of Villedeue les Pouiles is a 10 minute drive away with shops, restaurants, bars and places of interest. The house is situated 15 minutes South of St Lo and is 1 hour 15 minutes from Cherbourg or 1 hour from Caen. Outside: Semi Rural setting. BBQ and garden furniture with seating for 12.
