About the property

Villa Gelincik, Selimiye Village, Marmaris, Aegean Region, Turkey - Authentic Fishing Village, Great Marina & Restaurants Nearby, Beaches, Historical Sites, Boat Trips

Selimiye is a beautiful and picturesque seaside village, just 45 minutes from Marmaris. Truly the place for your authentic Turkish summer holiday. Life meanders along at wonderfully slow pace, with the locals out on their fishing boats or escaping the summer heat in one of the tea houses dotted along the main road. The village follows a natural curve around Selimiye Bay, with a selection of wonderful seafood restaurants and shops along the waterfront. Set on the hill overlooking the village, Villa Gelincik makes use of its natural terraces to provide a wonderful outdoor sunbathing area, covered terrace with dining table and couches, bbq, a sun-drenched swimming pool, shaded gazebo areas and old olive trees to snooze your days away under. The private pool is 40 m2 (5x8mts) in size, with a consistent depth of 1.60 mts. There are over 250 books available for reading, so you’ll never be short of a good read! Fatma provides a daily light clean, so you can enjoy the villa in style!

Villa Gelincik has 3 bedrooms (2 double rooms and a twin) on the top floor, all with en-suite bathrooms and balconies, with views of either the pool and valley, or beautiful Selimiye Bay. A third double room (with shared bathroom) is on the ground floor.

In 2015, the driveway up to Villa Gelincik was completely sealed making for much easier access. In 2016, our intention is to re-design the carpark area so that 2 cars can park and turn around comfortably.

About Gary Revell

I live in Turkey with my wife (Turkish) and young family. We built our first stone villa (Villa Gelincik, TK2134) in 2009/2010 and decided to repeat the blood, sweat and tears again for Villa Han (TK3335).

We live in the nearby resort of Marmaris, so I take care of all things to do with the villa alongside our wonderful housekeepers, Fatma and Hatice. I make a point of greeting all of our guests if at all possible and I am your contact for the duration of your holiday. Feel free to ask any questions at all as I am only to happy to help. Hope to see you at Villa Han or Villa Gelincik!

Gary Revell purchased this villa in 2010

Why Gary Revell chose Turkey

We couldn't find a house we wanted so decided to build instead! Also Selimiye is a really wonderful village - the perfect mix of traditional Turkish life with a small, cosmopolitan and slightly bohemian marina. We fell in love with the village first, which is why we bought land here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

1. Absolutely stunning villa! The view is amazing (especially from the pool) Beds are comfortable and everything that we could possibly need here was supplied. Will definitely come again! M Dyble, London

2. Villa Gelincik is the best of both worlds – a peaceful, spacious, private villa, with amazing pool/terrace views….but with all the “mod-cons”, décor and Fatma’s daily hard work, it also feels like a 4 star hotel! Selimiye Village itself is also a hidden gem – we loved walking on the sea-front, browsing the shops, (with no hassle/hard-sell) and stopping for refreshments. We would highly recommend staying here and hope to be back ourselves in the not too distant future. Thanks for a lovely relaxing holiday. G & S Stanley, Bristol

A memorable holiday in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

Our first overseas trip for a couple of years but so worth the wait. The villa was fantastic, clean, well equipped, plenty big enough for the 8 of us. Our favourite bit was the outside space, a lovely pool and outdoor eating/seating area and the views were amazing.

Gary, the owner, was a great host, he even met us at the villa when we arrived (well after midnight!). We were able to contact him throughout the week and he arranged a boat trip for us, which was a brilliant day out.

Fatma came to maintain the pool and do a light clean every day and really helped to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing.

One of the other highlights of the week was the village itself, Selimiye is a wonderful little place, from the lovely, friendly locals to the many restaurants and shops. We ate at the Aurora Restaurant which was delightful, lovely food seated next to the waterfront next to all the yachts and boats that had moored up fro the night. It was our first trip to Turkey but I imagine this could be described as the 'real' Turkey.

We did hire an 8 seat minibus and although we could drive it up the steep hill to the villa, turning around was difficult and so we tended to leave it at the bottom and walk up. We didn't find it a problem at all but my mother and farther in law did find it difficult and avoided doing this in the heat of the day. A normal sized car wouldn't be a problem though.

We would definitely recommend staying at Villa Gelincik and would love to return again sometime in the future

A rainy Sunday in the UK at time of writing - yearning to be back at Villa Gelincik!!

Owner's Response: Hi MS, many many thanks for your warm and honest review of Villa Gelincik. You were looking forward to this holiday from a long way out, so we really enjoyed hosting your family and trying to make it a holiday to remember. Selimiye is a lovely village, and many guests enjoy the nice blend of tradtional fishing village and the modern marina area. Plenty of restaurants to choose from! Best of luck to the two boys for their venture - I really hope it works out! Great to meet you all and I especially enjoyed the Facebook banter...speaking of which, I'm going to post a photo today which is relevant to your final sentence! Look forward to seeing you all again. Cheers, Gary

Sleepy little village seduces

  • 4 of 5

We had a delightful 10 days at Villa Gelincik. The villa has every mod con you could wish for, was extremely roomy and comfortable and the daily cleaning maintained a high standard of cleanliness. Beyond that, the gardens, outdoor seating and pool areas are beautifully tended and soulfully designed, so presented a retreat of great comfort and beauty. When a couple of little glitches cropped up Gary, the owner, was right onto it and the difficulty resolved and fixed in no time at all. You can sense the same degree of attention to detail throughout. Once we got a car we enjoyed the village and surrounding area, a day trip for lunch to Bozborun is a good outing and a swim in the unbelievably turquoise swimming spot at the opposite end of the bay on the road to Marmaris worth the 10 minute drive. We bought our flat bread fresh off the griddle in the village and don't miss the Wednesday food markets - sensational, had not tasted tomatoes like that for years! Sundowners in the Jazz Bar enjoying the warm hospitality of the delightful owners a treat, but beware Aurora which we found expensive, the food average and the owners over the top. It's a great part of the world, we would happily recommend Villa Gelincik to our friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you Sandra, it was a pleasure to host you all. Thanks also for the kind comments about the house - we do try very hard to present it perfectly to guests and it's nice to know it gets noticed! Very happy that you enjoyed the village and the local area - as we all know, it's those experiences that really make travel memories. Thanks again and best regards, Gary

Dunn & Hind Families

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic 2 weeks at Villa Gelincik. Gary the owner could not have been more helpful, from our initial booking to the day we left, organising car hire (two jeeps), boat trips and general advice on the area.

The villa was a real home from home experience we could not have asked for more.

A GREAT holiday.

Thanks Gary

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

This review is long overdue. We stayed in Villa Gelincik at the beginning of summer for a week. From the first point of contact Gary was responsive and helped every way he could. We were unfamiliar with this part of Turkey. It was an absolute delight. The bozburun peninsula is a beautiful part of southern Turkey. Traditional, friendly local people. Beautiful scenery, quiet and the makings of a fantastic holiday in a really relaxed environment. The little village of Selimiya was a complete delight. The people in the village were so friendly. The local woman baking fresh Turkish bread down became our routine shopping trip along with the fish shop and the vegetable stand by the beach. The villa itself was simple, quiet and with everything you need to enjoy a lovely time away from home. We cooked in, we enjoy really relaxing on holiday and the bbq was our preferred way to enjoy our evenings. The pool was clean, the views were gorgeous. The running (if you're into it) is challenging but really great for hills......a run to Bozburun village and back is around 11kms and due to those hills works up a good appetite for that Turkish bread at breakfast. All in all, highly recommended. Thank you Gary for a wonderful holiday.

Great villa, stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Villa Gelincik is a real gem and so is Selimiye. We have been renting villas in Turkey for 15 years and this is the best villa/resort combination we have found. The villa has been well designed with reasonable size bedrooms and plenty of ground floor space including a well equipped kitchen. As far as we were concerned, the best feature was the outside area where we spent most of our time. A lovely big dining table on a raised terrace overlooking the pool, a delightful lounging area, a large barbecue and good loungers surrounding the pool. From all of these spaces we could enjoy marvellous views of the surrounding area and bay. No adjoining villas, just olive and almond trees and a few goats and sheep!

The villa is set high above Selimiye and the access from the road to the villa is up a 60 metre track which was too steep for our mini bus. However, Gary was on hand on our arrival to transport our luggage and thereafter we walked it slowly! (age range 60/72).

Selimiye is a delight with just enough sophistication to offer a good range of restaurants and shops along the waterfront but not too commercialised and no hassle.

Overall we were very happy with our choice and will probably return.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review Keith. To hear such kind words about Villa Gelincik from experienced villa renters such as yourselves, means a lot! Selimiye really is a lovely Turkish seaside village and you have described it very well. It's the hidden gem along this coast without a doubt. I have plans to upgrade the road for 2014, so should you visit us again (we look forward to it), no walking necessary! Thanks again Keith.

Everything it said it would be...

  • 5 of 5

We hired the villa as it looked modern with a Turkish slant. It was everything and more than was described. The pool, outdoor eating area and BBQ were used most days as the fish caught by the local fishermen was some of the best fish we had ever eaten.

What we hadn't realised was the village itself was an absolute jewel, from our next door neighbour bringing fresh figs, capsicum and oregano on an almost daily basis, to the local vegetable seller looking after car keys whilst you went for a swim in the sea, to the variety of excellent restaurants along the sea front.

Gary and his wife were great hosts and on hand if there were any questions to be asked or issues. Fatima, the daily cleaner, was also on and to help when ever necessary.

An absolutely brilliant holiday enjoyed by all the family. If we could we would be back there tomorrow.
