Very child friendly. 3 bathrooms, 3 terraces. Astounding views, 1/2 acre garden, large playroom, bikes, tennis, access to mountains.

Fabulous villa located in quiet village providing everything you could want in a holiday house.

Beautiful private salt water pool (9x5m) in a large half acre garden full of trees and shrubs typical of the region and providing complete privacy. Being on the hillside there are amazing views of the Roussillon plain and the mountains beyond. The house is very conveniently located being just a 10 minute drive to the Mediterranean coast, the Spanish border, and the cultural delights of Collioure, Figueres and Ceret. We are 50 minutes from Gerona airport in Spain and 30 minutes to Perpignan airport. The house has 5 bedrooms and will sleep 10 comfortably. There are 3 bathrooms, an enormous lounge with home cinema and WI-FI. The kitchen is granite with an American fridge freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Outside there is a choice of 3 terraces on which to sit. There is full gas central heating allowing rental throughout the year. There is a large playroom with table tennis table,tennis rackets and boules. Montesquieu is unique in providing excellent walking into the Alberes hills, part of the Pyrenees range. Supermarkets are a 10 minute drive away. The village has a tennis court and football pitch 10 minutes walk from the house.

The area is also a centre for mountain biking ( some bikes provided) and hiking. Watersports are possible with a 15 minute drive. There is a fabulous winery producing the famous Domaine du Mas Rous which is less than

a half a mile from the house.

About the Owner

We are Tim and Emma, 2 general practitioners with 3 children who need to get away from the cold busy lives of the UK for a few weeks every year.

We bought the house 10 years ago and are constantly find new treasures in this area, from a new beach, to a new mountain stream.

Year round the weather is good, there is so much to see and do. The famous "Domaine du Mas Rous" sells world class wine is only a 5 minute walk.

Our children, now aged 20,17, and 15 continue to love the area. They love the pool, the beaches, tennis, the shops, cycling, snorkelling, the WI-FI and the home cinema. They are not so keen on the fantastic mountain walks from the door however..

Debra and her team are very helpful and will deal with your every wish .

Do not forget that all towels and bedding are provided

Well appointed house with a lovley pool and great views

Three generations enjoyed a happy week in this very well kitted out house.The weather was very hot so the pool was a lovely addition and was regularly cleaned. We would recommend a meal in the garden of the local vineyard owners, its literally just round the corner and the food was lovely a real French experience. Only downside the very friendly local cats who come into the villa which is great if you love cats but not so good if you have an allergy. Would still recommend the villa and would still go back there.

Lovely spacious house in good location

The house was perfect for a large family group, with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and spacious communal areas inside and out. The kitchen was very well-equipped, and there were cots and highchairs for two babies. The pool was nice and located away from the house so not a hazard. The location was excellent: a pretty village with very good road links to the coast and mountains, with lots of interesting places to visit in the area.

Absolutely incredible

This property was in one of the best locations I have ever been too. The house is kept in fantastic condition, it is clean, tidy and beautiful and very spacious and a great family house! The pool is a lot of fun to play in and the surrounding area is breath-taking and has been one of my favourite locations I have ever been too. The description Is entirely accurate and there was excellent customer service. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone, young, old, 2 too 10 people, you will not regret it and I cannot express enough how fantastic it is. I enjoyed the beach, shops, the different culture, the hill side beautiful walks, the streams and waterfalls, coastal walks, bbq, playing in the pool, playing table tennis and la boule, the list is endless! Thank you so much for the best stay a person could ever have had!

Wonderful house and location!

Great location and an easy drive from the airport. The house was very clean and fitted us six adults and three children perfectly. There is a well equipped kitchen with great spacious living area. Lots of outdoor seating/dining area extending to a lovely pool.

Just a few minutes drive to a large supermarket and more importantly just as close to some of the best beaches in France! Very convenient for day trips to Perpignan (for the rugby!), Collioure and other beautiful towns and villages.

We would recommend this lovely villa to any of our friends and look forward to our next stay there.

Peaceful village hideaway

Six friends from all over the globe and myself chose this house to have a reunion and we were not disappointed. The accommodation was great and felt both safe and secure. We had lots of room ( I would say the house more accurately sleeps 9 rather than 10 as the second 'double' bed was rather small ). The main living space was excellent, though as it was very hot during our stay we spent most of our time outside eating on the terraces which were lovely or lounging by the pool which was even more wonderful. Franck the general handyman did a great job of cleaning it and came twice a week as promised. All the rooms had free standing fans which were essential and when one broke we contacted Debra and she responded very quickly , replacing it by the next day. The kitchen was small but well equipped and we had most things that we needed.

The village was very quiet which we appreciated ( no shops at all for bread in the morning ) but with careful planning we managed very well as there were excellent supermarkets nearby - we mainly used the one in Le Boulou which had everything that we needed. There was a little restaurant in the village that we used one evening when the owner cooked for us - a limited but delicious menu of two choices for each course - and we were able to sample the local wines. Recommended!

The surrounding area was easily accessible and had a wealth of things to do, from galleries and museums, villages e.g. Ceret, markets, The Little Yellow Train ride and coastal towns such as Colliere to explore. The roads immediately around the house are quiet and it is perfectly safe to walk and cycle. We didn't have time to see everything so there will still be lots to see and do when we visit again!

Location

From the Owner

Having been to all almost all areas of France in the last 40 years, this area has in our opinion everything you could possibly want. It is close to a superb coastline, sophisticated Collioure, partying Argeles, romanesque churches, fabulous walking country, the art of Matisse and Dali, Roman ruins, sailing and water sports, shopping in Perpignan, skiing 90 minutes drive. The weather is mild throughout the year and hot in the Summer.The swimming pool is open from April to October. Yet the house is in a very quiet neighbourhood, the large and well stocked garden ensures that the only sound you hear is that of the Cicadas chirping as you relax, a glass of fine local wine in your hand. Yet one is only 10 minutes drive from numerous supermarkets, the Spanish border and the beaches.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : perpignan at 30 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : a8 at 4 Kilometres Nearest Beach : argeles at 12 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

10 minutes drive to the coast which varies from pure beach at Argeles-sur-Mer and St Cyprien to delightful sandy coves where the Alberes hills meet the sea around Collioure, a beautiful historical port with 5 beaches. There are several marinas for the boat enthusiast and water sports are available along the coast. There is an underwater nature reserve for snorkelling.

There are many beautiful quiet coves a few minutes drive. Fabulous Spanish beaches can also be reached within 40 minutes.

Travel:

Girona airport in Spain is the best airport to fly into. There are several Ryanair flights per day from many UK airports. Car hire is simple and our house is a 50 minute drive North on the motorway.

Flights are also available using flybe and Easyjet.

Barcelona airport is a 90 minute drive and has many flights throughout the year.

Perpignan airport in France is 30 minutes away but not many flights from the UK at present.

Distances:

Coast - 10 minute drive, Collioure - 15 minutes. Ceret - 10 minutes.

Spanish border - 10 minutes with Figures, home of the Dali museum 20 minutes.

Perpignan - 25 minute drive.

2 hypermarkets within 15 minutes drive.

We have an excellent caretaker Debra , who with her partner Alan runs the house for us during the season.

A new cafe/ bar/ bakery now exisys in the village. This is a 2 minute walk from the house. You can get your daily bread from here

Large supermarket at St Genis des Fontaines (10 minute drive)

Larger supermarkets at Le Boulou and Argeles ( 12 - 15 minutes)

Hypermarket south of Perpignan ( Auchun) (20-25 minutes)

Excellent Restaurant "auberge des Alberes" in St.Genis des Fontaines.

Collioure (15 minutes) is jam packed with restaurants and is lively at night.

Argeles (10 minutes) is more for of a party resort for young adults.

From the Owner

We particularly like the spacious living room adjacent to the new "all mod cons" kitchen. The choice of 3 outside sitting areas allows you the choice of sun and shade throughout the day. Being able to walk from the door into the hills is fantastic. The pool is very child friendly and is adjacant to the house allowing you to keep an eye on things from the patio. Our children like the freedom to cycle to the play area/tennis court on their own. The views are wonderful whatever time of year. We have now installed a wood burning stove which in addition to the gas fired central heating makes this a fantastic year round destination. The new TGV allows you to get to Barcelona in less than an hour and Paris is also only 4 or so hours away.

The pool is 9m x 4m and has a child friendly ledge for standing all the way around, depth ranges from 80cm to 1.8m and has a child proof cover if needed. The garden has an interesting variety of olive, lemon, orange, peach, fig, pine and pepper trees accompanied by many colourful shrubs and typical rosemary and thyme bushes. There are many mature trees, several species, mainly Mediterrranean pine and these provide a very pretty view along wit shade. There is parking for 3 cars. Utility Room: 2 washing machines, rotator dryer, ironing board, iron, high chair, cot. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are included in the rental price. Other: Large tiled games room, extra TV, DVD player, table tennis table, 6 mountain bikes for children and adults, 6 tennis rackets. This L shaped room is 30' long and between 30' and 20' wide.
