The main property was originally a vineyard and the cottage was the wine store. Many of the original features including oak beams remain. The renovation has been sympathetic and of exceptionally high standard. The cottage has its own terrace and barbeque area looking out onto the extensive grounds. Visitors enjoy a staggering degree of peace and tranquility, as there are no properties overlooking it or in the immediate vacinity, and for those of you with children or grown up friends reliving their childhood, the property offers a football pitch, badminton and cricket lawn at the back of the garden. There is a local company who will supply immaculate bicycles for rental. There is a large fenced swimming pool, offering complete privacy, which looks onto the shaded and cool gardens. The grounds are flat so if you have small children they can enjoy learning to ride bicycles or if ease of access is a consideration for visitors the pathways and single story property is very convenient.
After years of renting poor quality houses we decided to buy our own. We wanted a home which was luxuriously equipped and offered guaranteed comfort in all weather. An environment which firstly, catered for us with busy pressurised lives but also catered for our children's needs. The swimming pool is next the cottage and while sitting on the terrace you can watch your children play. The house is surrounded by farmland, so the peace and tranquility really hit you, which is what we wanted and allowed us the opportunity to enjoy each other and our family. We love wine and good food , sport, and culture and all of those are within easy reach. The children are very sporty. They love to cycle up to Lac de Gurson with its bars and sandy beach and also jet skiing, play golf and tennis locally.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2003
The location of the property is excellent. It is 10 minutes from the Autoroute junction, 30 minutes from Bergerac airport and 1 hour from Bordeaux airport. If you like wine tasting we are 20 minutes from St Emilion and 1 hour from the Chateaux's of the top 6 growths. For those of you who are sporty there are lots of golf courses, ranging from 5 star to local mini and crazy courses. Canoeing is popular, horse riding, jet skiing and cycling are all easy to find within a very short journey or at the property. We have four boys and they love nothing better than playing cricket and football when it is not too hot. Then there is the pool to cool down in or the Lac de Gurson, 5 minutes away, which is a community funded fresh water lake with beaches, bars and a life guard on duty in summer.
The property is near plenty of villages for local restaurants or a choice of towns within 20 minutes. There are a range of restaurants within 30 minutes from Michelin 2 star to pizza's cooked in the oven to order and eaten on the terraces overlooking vineyards. If you don't want to be out and about you can get to a Hypermarket in Montpon within 7 minutes, open 7 days per week. Le Brandau is a stand alone property with formal gardens surrounded by farmland. It is an ideal hideaway when you are used to a fast pace of life and just want to escape to recharge your batteries and enjoy your family. The countryside is just as pretty during the winter months as in the summer. The gently undulating hills and lots and lots of grapes with or without their leaves and grapes!
Mr & Mrs Smith
We have now enjoyed five holidays in the Cottage and find the peace and tranquility together with the quality of property difficult to resist each year. Our children love the location near to Le Lac de Gurson and I love the proximity to excellent golf courses, like Chateau Vigier. We can't recommend this property highly enough.
Excellent standard of accommodation. Very well equipped, nicely furnished, lovely gardens, so quiet you can hear the grass grow. The situation is lovely in that it is so near some lovely villages such as St Emilion, Bergerac, which is delightful and Villefranche.
Unfortunately, we experienced dreadful weather for 10 of our 15 days there but despite this we will certainly return and to this gite (if they'll have us !). The golf at Perigieux is excellent despite it being a municipal course and St Vigiers is also excellent but well overpriced as are most French golf courses. There are excellent walking routes in the area but you need to go to the website http://www.pays-de-bergerac.com/pages/randonnees/index.asp# where you can download the maps (if you can call them maps) as well as the gpx files (which are really accurate) for your hiking gps gizmo. A brilliant website for walking in the area. Just be prepared to walk in hammering rain and you'll love it !
