Our countryside property offers good sized family accommodation in traditionally restored gites, situated in a traditional French manor house complex in the Charente-Maritime region of France .Situated in the small hamlet of La Ville Aux Moines, we are in the middle of the beautiful french countryside far away from the hussel and bussel and we benefit from stunning views, surrounded by sunflower fields during the summer months. The surrounding area has lots to offer, you can fill every day with lots of new activities, whether is exploring our local chateaux, joining us water ski ing, go-carting or shopping at the local produce markets in St Jean, taking one of our bikes and exploring the country side, or just spending the day chilling by our pool while the children play in our large park garden. We have a large heated, fully tiled, safety fenced swimming pool (12 x 8 mtrs) - which has a separate 'splash' pool (6 x 5 mtrs) for young ones. A half acre garden contains children's swings, lawn badminton a football net, and there is also a games room with table tennis and pool table. We have bikes of all sizes for your use There are 2 nice local restaurants for special nights out and in the summer the local French Night Market with food and entertainment is a must. In short we have everything you need for the perfect holiday.
We welcome group bookings, parties and weddings
As the Property owners we live in France full time. We live on site and are happy to help with getting the best from your holiday in France.
David and his family moved to France in 2004. They found an old French manor house with surrounding outbuildings which had been empty for 35 years. He renovated our home and the on site gites and opened for business with 4 gites in 2006, opening a further 2 gites in 2007. We have recently finished renovating gites number 7.and 8.
Our gite complex is perfect for families and friends holidaying together and in the summer we enjoy the buzz and chatter of families enjoying themselves around the courtyard and in the pool and gardens.

Rural France at its best. Spring starts early with clear bright blue sky's, long hot summers and mild late autumns. A place where every day is different and the stress and strains of working life are a thing of the past
Step back to a time less stressful. Enjoy time away from the stresses of everyday life. Rural France has every thing you want for the perfect holiday. We are surrounded by poppy fields in the spring, sunflower fields in the summer. There is something to do every day, whether its a day at the beach, punting at green Venice, exploring the historic port of La Rochelle or just relaxing by our 7x12m heated swimming pool while the children play in our 1/2 acre park with swing slides, badminton nets, table tennis, pool table. Or if your feeling more energetic take one of our bike out and follow one of the numerous paths in the surrounding area
Thankd Cathy & David, you were wonderful hosts, You went out of your way to be kind, helpful and informative. The swimming pool waslovely and clean, the beds comfortable and we appreciated the good quality bed linen & towels.
We really enjoyed the great 'get together'at your place on the sunday and the opportunity to meet everyone else- its a great idea and a nice touch in our opinion.
For futer guests we would recommend
Coulon( green Venis)hire punting boats
La Rochelle and the town and beach at Chatelaillion plage
We stayed here for two weeks in July 2017 with our 3 kids aged 8, 5 and 4. The property is great, we had our garden with table and chairs and BBQ and there was also great play areas for the kids. The two swimming pools are lovely and clean, plenty of sunbeds and it never felt crowded. There's a fence and gate around the pools which is great with small kids. The trampoline, table tennis and pet area were a huge hit with our kids. David and Cathy were always really helpful and were great for suggesting places to visit. They recommended the fireworks for Bastille night in the village nearby which we loved and also recommended the evening market on Saturday nights in another nearby village which was fantastic.
We loved our trips to the beach at Grand Palais Sur Mer, La Rochelle, Ile de Re, and we also did a two hour trip to St Emilion which was gorgeous. We also spent some days just relaxing at the Gite as there's plenty for the kids to do and the location is lovely and quiet for just taking it easy.
The gite was as described and clean and there are laundry facilities which was handy. We would definitely recommend it to others.
We spent three days with many children who were so happy to run in the big garden and swim during hours. Houses are very useful and the air is fresh inside when the sun is shinnig outside.
Had a wonderful family holiday here, stayed in Hercules. The gite is spacious and comfortable.
Set in a pretty courtyard it was lovely to bbq outside while the children played with new friends
The Children loved the garden, a large space with everything they could need, swings, slides and trampoline.
The animal corner was a great hit with the kids and all our left over salad went to feeding the rabbits and ducks.
The pool area was great, a nice big pool which was never too busy and there were plenty of sunbeds.
While in the middle of the countryside there was always plenty to do. David and Cathy were always on hand
to give some bits of advice on best days to visit markets or which is the closest beach.
We got there on Saturday evening and on Davids advice went to the local night market- fab start to the holiday and would highly
recommend going.
2 weeks went to quick, would love to go back.
We were all really looking forward to a relaxing holiday, and that is what we got. David and Cathy were there to answer any questions we had- really helpful with suggestions for places to visit. We would recommend this holiday to all of our friends, looks like we might be booking to come back next year too!!
The extra facilities, pool table, table tennis, badminton, swings, trampoline, hammock were all brilliant. The added bonus was the baby rabbits to feed all our leftovers to- there was something for our children to enjoy all the time. The pools are great too. Lots to do in the near by towns, if thats what you would like. We enjoyed every moment, thank you.
We stayed in 2 Gites Cassiopeia and Andromeda, which were perfectly located for a large family group who wouldn't all fit into 1 space. The children immediately wanted to explore "The Park" in which they could have spent an entire 2 weeks of the holiday. They loved the pool, the swings, and the trampoline, plus being able to feed the baby rabbits and ducks. It really did have something for everyone, and so much space, it never felt crowded even though they were mostly full.
David and Cathy were fabulous, and extremely helpful, letting us know when markets were on and where the best beaches were. They were especially helpful when one of our children needed a doctor, for which we were very grateful of the assistance.
The area has so much to do, we could have easily filled another week and really would have loved to stay. We loved the boat rides at St. Savinien, and the beaches at Fouras and Châtelaillon-Plage were beautiful.
We always say we will go back to our holiday rentals, but never do, however I really do believe we will be back this time. It was absolutely fantastic value for money.
My family and I were looking for a last minute (and I do mean last possible minute) rural retreat and after a quick phone call with David we packed our bags and less than 24 hours later unpacked in a wonderful gite surrounded by fields of poppies in a tiny idyllic village. Easy access to La Rochelle and the lovely islands of Ile de Rey and Dix meant we never wanted for adventures but the lovely garden with pools, petting animals and trampoline kept my children delighted for our stay. Cathy and David were the perfect hosts providing the exact balance of being there whenever you needed them or with suggestions for activities yet never feeling they were intruding. We have every intention of returning and have already recommended Cathy and David to friends and family.
