Villa in Uzumlu, Fethiye-Olu Deniz, Aegean Region, Turkey - Only 10 mins to Village

Villa Green World is located in Üzümlü. 12km from Fethiye is the beautiful and relaxed mountain village of Üzümlü. Just 500 meters above sea level and nestling below the ancient Roman site Cadianda. Üzümlü has managed to retain all the natural charm and character of a traditional Turkish village. The valley in which Üzümlü is located is one spectacular natural beauty, surrounded by thick pine forest, mountain streams and rugged hillsides. This is an ideal location for somebody who wants to combine the enchantment of rural life with the nearby convenience of a modern town like Fethiye just 20 mins drive away.

About the Owner

My name is Ray Brown and fell in love with Turkey many years ago on a package holiday. After visiting some half a dozen times I decided to purchase a property in the mountains in a quaint town called Uzumlu. The people and endless sunny days and evenings made it an ideal choice to have a 2nd home in Turkey. I have had numerous fun packed holidays in the villa and in Turkey and I hope you too find it inviting and charming and secluded as I do.

Mr & Mrs Brown (Aug 2014) - The communication from start to finish was excellent. The contact in Uzumlu arranged the meet and greet and worked perfectly. The house is beautiful and set up on the hillside with plenty out space inside and out. It was fully equipped for our needs (family of four with two young children). The swimming pool was much bigger than expected and able to have everyone in at one time comfortably. Because the house is in the mountains there was a daily breeze starting late morning which kept the temperatures lower than that on the coast. I personally loved the couch on the shaded veranda on which I read and watched the sun go down. Uzumlu village itself is friendly and welcoming and fused old world with newer businesses. The area is easy to explore and we chose to travel around and visit different beaches although next time will also spend time seeing places of historical interest. In Fethiye and Calis there are more tourist options although we never found any of the pressured selling that we have experienced elsewhere and Turkish people have always been incredibly welcoming. The markets are great and travel around depending on which day of the week you want to go to them, fantastic for fresh food! There is a drive to get down to the coast although what we chose to do as a family was alternate a days exploring with a day at the villa. The mountains are spectacular as is the sea which is crystal clear. A magnificent holiday location indeed.

Mr & Mrs Campbell (July 2013) We had a lovely time in Uzumlu. As you know that is the 2nd year we have stayed there. The lovely village still remains mostly the same which is the beauty of it. The villa was beautifully decorated and the colours were very soothing and relaxing. We enjoyed the sitting out on the balcony looking at the view and it was so peaceful. Although the villa was on a steep slope it wasn't really a problem as we had the car. Sue and her husband were very prompt at meeting us with the keys and friendly too.The people who watered your plants & maintained your pool were polite and and didn't disturb our long lie in's".

Mr & Mrs Gibson & Family (June 2013) - Our visit couldn't have gone smoother, from collection from the airport, car hire, through to the return. The villa was of the high standard we had hoped for. It's location was perfect, situated just outside the village of Uzumlu and some thirty minutes easy drive from Fethiye. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to visit.

The Bennett's Family Stay

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at Villa Green world was a very stress free, relaxing and what we went for. The villa was very clean and spacious and the pool was cleaned everyday by Turkish people that live near by the villa. The owners service was good and would definitely recommend this property to friends and family. Only a 10-15 min walk to the village with very nice restaurants with cheap prices and good entertainment and different to English. There was not one thing that we didn't like the views were outstanding when the sun went down it was a stress free holiday. Up in the mountains where the property is you definitely need a car! We went down to Fethiye market on a Tuesday to do some haggling. We stay in Uzmulu village quite a lot and people are very friendly there.

Great location, fantastic villa & pool

  • 5 of 5

Booking the villa was very straightforward and Ray, the owner, answered all our questions beforehand.

The villa is in a great location close to the traditional Turkish village of Üzümlü and only one hour drive from Dalaman airport. Ray organised the car hire and transfer from the airport to the Villa which was very smooth and stress free. We may try and do this on all our holidays in future.

We were met at the villa by the agent, Metin, who showed us around and handed over the keys. The villa is very spacious and was very clean and had everything we needed. The pool was a perfect size and perfect depth for us and our three children (aged 10,12 & 14). The pool was cleaned and filtered every day and was immaculate. We would definitely recommend staying at this villa.

There were lots to do locally and the restaurants in Üzümlü were very good. There are very few prices on any products in the local shops but all seemed pretty reasonable.

We had a great stay and enjoyed our first visit to Turkey.

Great quiet location, spectacular mountains.

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from a two and half week stay at Ray's villa. We found it clean and spaceous and in a quiet rural mountain location. Temperatures were a couple of degrees lower than at the coast (20 mins drive) and there was a pleasant breeze that "appeared" daily at 1pm which was refreshing and took away some of the heat during the hottest part of the day. This part of Turkey has spectacular mountain ranges and lots of ancients cities if you are that way inclined. The pool was cleaned daily but because of the location didn't fill up with debris and insect life too much anyhow. The neighbours in the complex were mainly residents although there are a couple of holiday villa's and it was nice and quiet which suited us for most of the time, but as with anywhere it is a lottery in this respect. The local village Uzumulu is about a km away and walkable but the complex is elevated ,which gives spectacular views of the valley and mountains would make it uncomfortable to for most people to walk the last couple of hundred metres back to the villa . The village itself is typically rural but does have a number of British residents dotted around and the bars/restaurant owners do speak English and do nice food at a good price. There are a couple of shops where you can buy essentials and bread etc if you run out, but we did the bulk of shopping at supermarkets in Fethiye. A car is essential, we hired a car, booked through Ray, the owner! who got us a better price than we could, and this included transfers to and from the airport so you havn't got the hassle of sorting it at the airport then finding your way to your location. The Turks only have 1 rule regarding driving - you can do anything (literally) but try not to hit anyone. As much of the living was done outside the villa, having a BBQ to cook would have been nice .

Location

From the Owner

I love Uzumlu and find the village to be friendly and welcoming (the locals love it if you try your Turkish!) The village nestles in the mountains just 20 minutes from the main market town of Fethiye, just 45 min from Dalaman Airport. Come and enjoy the views and sample the local pide (a canoe shaped Turkish Pizza) at the local Pide Salon or try a glass of the local wine at the Winehouse. Whether you are looking for a relaxing time by the pool enjoying the scenery or want an energising walking holiday or anything thing in between there is plenty to offer everyone. Within a hours drive is the beautiful Salikent Gorge, Kas, and the option of taking the ferry to the Greek island of Rhodes.

Coast/Beach:

Set back some 15km from the coast, the lovely village of Uzumlu gives visitors a taste of old Turkey whilst being within easy reach of everything this wonderful stretch of coastline has to offer. There are several shops within the village itself, along with numerous places to sample fresh local cuisine. A 20 minute car journey takes you into the hustle and bustle of Fethiye itself - a lovely town where you can find everything from traditional harbour markets to modern supermarkets.

The villa is 50 min from Dalaman airport.

Further Details:

Hisaronu / Ovacik / Olu Deniz Hisaronu and Ovacik lie close by in the hills behind Olu Deniz, surrounded by pine forests and beautiful countryside. These resorts have grown from the popularity of Olu Deniz itself, as when the conservation area made it impossible to build more hotels and apartments by the sea, the hillside villages within easy reach of the beach started to grow. Both resorts are now incredibly popular with British guests with many holidaymakers deciding to settle in the area and there is a wide selection of restaurants, bars and pubs to cater for their tastes.

Hisaronu - is the busier of the two villages and most restaurants, shops and bars are centred around one main street, whilst at the top of the village is a weekly market where it can be great fun choosing unusual gifts for those back home.

Ovacik - is altogether quieter and more rural with splendid views of the surrounding pine clad mountains. The air here is usually cooler and fresher than at sea level, which can be very welcome at the height of the summer. Whichever resort you choose, getting between them is very easy as dolmus minibuses run between all three resorts. Alternatively you can walk between the centre of Hisaronu and Ovacik in about 15 minutes.

Olu Deniz - is one of the most photographed resorts in Turkey and over the years has probably featured on more holiday brochure covers than anywhere else in the world. Wisely, when Turkish tourism was in its infancy the local authorities realised how precious this place was and made it a conservation area, forever protecting the stunning shoreline and village from over development. The village resort is snuggled behind a curved strip of beach that forms an almost complete circle around a natural blue lagoon.

Facilities

From the Owner

The property benefits from private parking area, however it is not suitable for holidaymakers who have difficulty with steps or are wheelchair bound as it is built on the side of a hill. The property is just a short walk (1km) to the local village where a local produce market is held on Friday's selling everything from tomatoes to saucepans! Although the village is small and traditional a number of restaurants are available and serve both Turkish and English/Continental cuisine. There is also a bakers, butchers and number of small supermarket type shops. The property has air-conditioning, as the temperature often reaches 40 degrees in the summer months.
