I just wanted to take a minute to let you know that we had an absolutely wonderful time at your house last week. The place is beautiful, well appointed, and very welcoming. It was great to have the welcome basket on our arrival. We were starving after our drive and the local products were delicious. The house is much bigger than we had realized with more outdoor spaces than we could take advantage of in a week. We should have stayed for two. We used the pool and BBQ quite a bit. It was the first time our 8 month old had ever swam. We also visited several local sights including Duras and Saint-Emillion and returned with plenty of wine in the trunk. We truly couldn't have asked for a more relaxing time. Hopefully we will have another opportunity to visit.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

Can't rate this property highly enough - I don't think we have ever stayed in a house (and we've stayed in some!) which has so much to offer.

Thanks to the owners and her English speaking managers and helpers, our holiday was a dream. Attention to detail both prior and during our stay meant we enjoyed everything on offer. It was all that we could have wanted and more; from the most excellent welcome basket on our arrival to the box of barbie dolls for our youngest - not to mention the air hockey, pool table, dart board, large swimming pool, well appointed kitchen and enough space inside and out, oh and sunloungers!, that everyone was happy.

We hope to visit you again some day soon as there is so much we didn't go and do because the house was far too amazing (and the weather for the majority) that we didn't want to venture too far for too long (apart from the local winery across the road!).

Thank you so much for a most memorable and wonderful stay in your home. If you ever think of selling up, please put us on your potentials list! Yes, it was that good.

Wonderful holiday house

  • 5 of 5

We had a very happy family holiday in this beautiful house. The location is peaceful and lovely, and the house and garden very spacious and well equipped. We had uninterrupted hot sunshine all week, and enjoyed having the choice of several outdoor terraces for eating and relaxing, as well as comfortable sitting rooms indoors. The swimming pool, games room and table tennis were great attractions! Thank you, Vivienne, for making us so welcome.

Just what I wanted

  • 5 of 5

Loads of character and great accommodation. We had 12 people and fitted easily. The mother of all games rooms is included as the wing that joins the old house and even older cottage. The 7 kids (aged 3-12) never wanted to leave! Plenty of pool toys and 3 great outdoor eating areas. Vivienne has thought of everything. If I could recommend anything, I suggest some bikes would be great, but I know the owner has had trouble before. Visit Fabrice across the road at "Fasy" for his fabulous wines! Just loved this place.

SUPERB!

  • 5 of 5

"We had a week's extended family holiday at La Roche, a party of 11, to celebrate a number of significant family milestones this year. Family travelled from 4 different UK locations to join up for a week.

I had carefully selected La Roche against a quite demanding set of requirements. It had to be big enough for the party size, with the right combination of bedrooms/beds for the make up of the group. It had to be accessible from our local UK airports, with a start day on the day of the flights. It had to be in an area and have facilities to entertain an age range from teens to septuagenarian.

It was a tall order, but oh boy did it deliver. This place was superb. It is located almost at the end of a dead end track, in a very small group of only 3 or 4 properties. It is therefore very peaceful and secluded. It is a short 3 or 4 mile drive to the very pretty town of Duras. It is a small pretty town, but with all you need - supermarket, cafes, restaurants, local wine producers making and selling the excellent Cote de Duras AOC wines, day and night markets, castle.

We had days out to a lake with a beach, watersports etc, and another kayaking on the Dordogne. Both great fun and good value. Also a wine tour of a local producer.

The rest of time was spent at the villa enjoying the pool, excellent range of outdoor and indoor games, food, drink and good company.

If this villa suits your requirements, do not hesitate to try it. The owner was very helpful and considerate all through the process, with some lovely finishing touches thrown in.

I would say it's not suited particularly for the disabled/infirm - there are numerous flights of steps of various lengths throughout the house and grounds. Also, you will need a car for getting around."

Fabulous family frolics

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful accomodation, perfect for our rather large family - baby, 6 children and 7 adults - to spend quality time together relaxing and having fun. The house easily accommodated us all, great space indoors and outside. The games room proved popular at the end of our fun filled days around the very safe swimming pool area. Great location - rural but not isolated, close to villages, markets and night markets. We had plenty of opportunity to go out on day trips but found ourselves spending our time enjoying the house and surrounding area - swimming in the fantastic pool, walking in the local vineyards with the farmer picking plums and grapes, wine tasting, talking and eating together, playing games and generally enjoying our time away from the pressures of every day life.....we absolutely loved it and would highly recommend.......thank you Vivienne for your help, information, scummy welcome pack - much appreciated! ... and for sharing your beautiful home 'en france' with us.

We had a lovely stay at the house in May. It's ideal for families sharing, really well equipped with lots of space indoors and a fantastic terrace and pool area. Lots to do in the local area, with lots of helpful recommendations provided by Vivienne. Many thanks.

Duras has 2 banks (with their cash machines), post office, 1 mini supermarket in the town square and a larger one (Carrefour) on the outskirts of town, and a large leclerc in Ste Foy La Grande. There are restaurants in the town and surrounding area with menus to suit all budgets. The local village of St Sernin de Duras has two excellent floodlit tennis courts, a great restaurant, cafe, bar, tabac and general store which stocks fresh bread and croissants.

We hope you will come and enjoy a wonderful relaxing holiday in these beautiful surroundings...have fun with the family, enjoy the many fantastic restaurants, then sink back and relax.
