Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage in a beautiful village location

In a village renowned for its outstanding beauty, architecture and tranquility, The Byre is a three bedroom luxury self-catering cottage in a delightful courtyard setting. Situated near to the award-winning Fortingall Hotel and the famous 5000 year-old Yew Tree, it is just two hours from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. The area is rich in beauty and wildlife, set in the heart of Perthshire with its hills, lochs, rivers and woodland. The small town of Aberfeldy is eight miles away and the picturesque village of Kenmore at the head of the River Tay is just six miles. Glen Lyon, Scotland's longest and loveliest glen stretches West for over 35 miles and the silvery ribbon of the River Lyon echoes the contours of the village as it wends its way Eastwards to join the Tay. The Byre offers spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to six guests in three bedrooms with two bathrooms and small private garden with BBQ and seating looking out onto woodland. Wheelchair accessible. No Smoking.

About Julia Loudon

We are passionate about Scotland and the beautiful area of Fortingall. It is such a magical place where time seems to slow down to a much gentler pace. We feel very honoured to own a property in such a fabulous area and the large number of returning guests seem to validate our opinion!

Julia Loudon purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Julia Loudon chose Fortingall

The Byre was converted from a former cattle shed in 2007 along with The Stables, The Salmon House and The Granary in a delightful enclosed courtyard setting. Our home is Perthshire and we adore the tranquility of the area and encouraging visitors to share in the magic and enjoy the countryside.

What makes this cottage unique

We love slowing down from the hectic pace of life associated with work and cities. Fortingall is so peaceful and is a superb base for walkers, climbers as well as for those touring around the Scottish Highlands. The Byre is located within a few steps of the Fortingall Hotel, where guests can eat in the restaurant or relax in the cosy bar.

Very relaxing and comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is well equipped and maintained, and felt homely from the minute we arrived. We enjoyed the wood burning stove - despite it being April, it was quite cool, so we didn't get to use the outdoor furniture!

The location is great, nice and quiet but with easy access to Aberfeldy and Kenmore. We had dinner one evening in the Fortingall hotel and it was excellent, really delicious food and the staff were very friendly.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I'm sure we'll be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your helpful review. I'm glad that you enjoyed the surrounding countryside when outdoors and the wood-burning stove in the evenings - it always gives a cosy feel to the cottage. The Fortingall Hotel is always good for food and relaxing - whether in the restaurant or the Ewe Bar. We'd love to welcome you back to the Byre sometime!

Great cottage, scenic location, wonderful holiday

  • 4 of 5

really comfortable stay at the cottage, with my husband, our wee dog and we were joined part way through by my mum and in-laws. Everyone felt very at home, and the cottage was roomy enough and well equipped.

Round about we found lots to do, with music night in the hotel on Friday evening, Glen Lyon walking and mountain biking, plus Killin, Kenmore and Aberfeldy all within driving distance for visiting shops, cafes and places of interest.

The autumn colours were great too, and the weather stayed fine most of the week.

Comfortable cottage in quiet tiny village

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is quite spacious with three BR and two full baths; great for a family. The two of us rattled around in all the room! Very well furnished with everything one might need for preparing meals and keeping everyone entertained. Lovely history of the kirk and surrounding area. Friday night music in the Ewe Bar terrific. Food amazing!
