About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage in a beautiful village location

In a village renowned for its outstanding beauty, architecture and tranquility, The Byre is a three bedroom luxury self-catering cottage in a delightful courtyard setting. Situated near to the award-winning Fortingall Hotel and the famous 5000 year-old Yew Tree, it is just two hours from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. The area is rich in beauty and wildlife, set in the heart of Perthshire with its hills, lochs, rivers and woodland. The small town of Aberfeldy is eight miles away and the picturesque village of Kenmore at the head of the River Tay is just six miles. Glen Lyon, Scotland's longest and loveliest glen stretches West for over 35 miles and the silvery ribbon of the River Lyon echoes the contours of the village as it wends its way Eastwards to join the Tay. The Byre offers spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to six guests in three bedrooms with two bathrooms and small private garden with BBQ and seating looking out onto woodland. Wheelchair accessible. No Smoking.

About Julia Loudon

We are passionate about Scotland and the beautiful area of Fortingall. It is such a magical place where time seems to slow down to a much gentler pace. We feel very honoured to own a property in such a fabulous area and the large number of returning guests seem to validate our opinion!

Julia Loudon purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Julia Loudon chose Perthshire

The Byre was converted from a former cattle shed in 2007 along with The Stables, The Salmon House and The Granary in a delightful enclosed courtyard setting. Our home is Perthshire and we adore the tranquility of the area and encouraging visitors to share in the magic and enjoy the countryside.

What makes this cottage unique

We love slowing down from the hectic pace of life associated with work and cities. Fortingall is so peaceful and is a superb base for walkers, climbers as well as for those touring around the Scottish Highlands. The Byre is located within a few steps of the Fortingall Hotel, where guests can eat in the restaurant or relax in the cosy bar.

Excellent Accomodation!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot rate " The Byre" highly enough! It is beautifully furnished and decorated, and it is very well equipped. The location of the cottage is idylliically set away from the main road in the charming village of Fortingall. The neighboring Fortingall Hotel serves excellent food for lunch and dinner, and the church, which is just outside the cottage's courtyard, is steeped in interesting history and definitely worth a visit.. I feel my family and I experienced a little bit of heaven during our recent stay in this part of rural Perthshire!

Owner's Response: Thank you Jane for your review - I am so glad that you and your family loved your stay in the cottage and enjoyed the local area. The hotel next door is indeed a bonus is such a remote location, and there are some beautiful walks within easy reach of The Byre. We do try to check the cottage regularly to ensure that it remains comfortable and well equipped, so I'm glad to hear you felt that everything was just what you needed.

WONDERS OF FORTINGALL

  • 5 of 5

We have been touring the UK for 2 months now and this 8 day stop in Fortingall is one of the high points of our journey so far.

Julia's cottage felt like home the moment we walked in. Very cozy, warm and everything you would need to feel comfortable and be able to stay in at night and cook your meals.

The location is magical and being so close to the oldest tree in Europe and the Fortingall Hotel was a major plus. We went over to the Friday night live music at the Ewe Pub at the Hotel and had a great time.

I played golf and fly fished for trout on the River Tummel and Lyon. We went to the Castle Menzies, into Kenmore and Aberfeldy which were both charming villages.

Julia was very helpful with all of my questions and the cottage was clean, well stocked and very quiet and private.

If we are ever back in the area, I know where we will be staying.

Thank you Julia for sharing you incredible cottage in a special piece of the world with us.

This cosy cottage is a gem located next door to the Fortingall hotel and the famous Yew tree. Walks in the surrounding mountains and hills offer spectacular views. We saw Perthshire at its very best. Would thoroughly recommend it.

We fell in love with this accommodation as soon as we walked through the door.. it's well equipped, very clean and well situated in some of Scotlands most impressive scenery..... we couldn't have asked for more... the log fire in the evenings was the icing on the cake...

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review. We love to hear that our guests have enjoyed themselves, and we are pleased that we have got it just right in terms of accommodation, comfort and equipment. And of course the log burning fire is lovely! We can't take credit for the location (apart from choosing it, of course) - Fortingall, Glen Lyon and the Loch Tay area are so beautiful.
