Scandinavian Lodge at Cragganmore, Grampian, Scotland - Highland Tranquility Next to the River Spey in the Heart of Malt Whisky Country

Sleeps 8. Cragganmore Lodge has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area that copes with 8 people in comfort. Ideal as a base for walking, fishing, touring or simply relaxing in a very peaceful location on the banks of the River Spey along the road that leads to Cragganmore Distillery. There are many walks right from the Lodge (The Speyside Way passes within 100m) and within an hours drive there are numerous attractions such as the Cairngorm National Park, the Highland Capital Inverness, miles of the Morayshire Coast, and Whisky Distilleries too numerous to mention. There is a petrol station, shop and restaurant all within 2 miles.

About Howard Perkins

We have lived in Central Scotland since 1984 and have spent many years climbing mountains all over Scotland. We first started staying in holiday cottages when our daughter was born and wanted a place of our own ever since.

Why Howard Perkins chose Moray

The North East was an area that we hadn't visited much. It's only about 3 hours drive from the Central Belt of Scotland and so is easy to get to for weekends, but still far enough for it to be a world away. It is so easy to relax at Cragganmore - it is so peaceful and yet there is still plenty to do and explore. As many of our guests have said - a home away from home!

Lovely place and cottage, however, it had not been cleaned from the previous occupant. I had to knock on surrounding buildings to establish if they owned the cottage and one kind man rang the lady who is responsible for cleaning and she came out straight away. I advised her to just change the upstairs bedding, towels and clean the bathroom only as I did not want to endure a full cleaning session after a ten hour drive. Not ideal. She came back the next day to do the full clean.

Owner's Response: Philip, We are so sorry that this happened (and we didn't know about it until now). We want people to arrive at a clean, welcoming Lodge, that is ready for them, and not to have to chase round to get things sorted. Certainly not after a 10 hour journey. I'm embarrassed to say that this did happen once before, although on that occasion, the guests did contact us directly and we were able to get things sorted very quickly. We will review arrangements with our cleaner to see how we can stop this ever happening again. Apologies once more. Regards Howard

Salmon Arm

Best Little Chalet

We were absolutely thrilled with this little gem. It had way more than we were expecting besides the 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms. Kitchen was well stocked with a variety of different cooking implements and many pots and pans. Space for everyone to hang out or hide away and read a book. A huge selection of movies from many different genres, music CD's, books and games. This was definitely a home away from home. Centrally located for all the adventures we had planned. Thanks for having all the brochures from the area as well as a top ten list from past people that had stayed it was nice to check over some places that we had not even read about. Howard and Sarah were very responsive and helpful when we were booking and sent us information for arrival with grocery store availability and location. Very helpful when coming from another country. The place was clean and ready to move in when we arrived and a nice note from the landlords greeting us, on the table. There was a full booklet on almost any question we could think of on operating items in the house, ie. TV, light switches, washing machine.

We would come again in a heartbeat and stay here. :)

A very enjoyable stay at Cragganmore Lodge

We had a great time at Cragganmore Lodge. It was clean and tidy, very comfortable and well equipped. It's in a lovely part of Scotland, near the beautiful Spey river and within easy access to many attractions. We definitely hope to come again.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful location

We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge, We were looking for a more chilled out break away this time as we had our newborn son with us and we were within an hours drive from main attractions when we did feel like going on the odd day out. Days staying at the lodge were filled with plenty of walks by the river which were easily accessible with a pram providing you stay on the track, river really close by aswell to take our boy out in his carrier also and it wasn't too far for our 5 year old daughters little legs. Howard was very accommodating and got back to us straight away with any queries we had, and provided us with plenty of information on the lodge. Slight mix up with the cleaning when we arrived but these things happen! This was no problem at all as Howard came up with plenty of solutions to the problem and our stay was in no way affected by this in a negative way. Will definetly be coming again in the future :-)

Lovely clean lodge in beautiful setting

Fantastic location by the river, lovely clean lodge style holiday home. Very clean and tidy, would recommend staying here- the owner has it well stocked out with games and local information for outdoor things. Dont expect any mobile signal or 4G though- although we viewed that as a bonus!

Owner's Response: Thanks. When we first got the Lodge phone coverage really was awful, but usually now, most networks are ok for voice and texts - but definitely NOT data. BT have been promising to install broadband since May 2015 - but after a year we seem no closer......

Wonderful and warm cottage, amazing nature

I stayed at Cragganmore Lodge with my children and our friends from abroad last autumn. I was very impressed by the cottage and the surrounding area. In fact, I think the online photos don't quite do justice to this wonderful, warm cottage that is fabulously equipped and very comfortable. Howard, the owner, was a dream to communicate with, he responded quickly to all my email inquiries and concerns and provided lots of useful information readily. The cottage was very clean with a modern, beautiful kitchen and cozy bedrooms, and we loved it as soon as we stepped foot in it. We met generosity even after our stay when the little accidental damage our friend's 3-year-old caused (mended according to our best efforts) was overlooked and we received our deposit back in full.

We had an amazing trip, even the weather cooperated by giving us a week of sunshine! Except for a rest day (the only day it rained a bit) when we took a shorter walk along the Spey River, we went on day trips every day to Cairngorm National Park, Landmark Adventure Park and the Moray Coast. It was always a treat to get back to the cottage, our temporary home, after a day full of fun and discovery. I loved staying at Cragganmore and I only have good impressions and memories.

The Moray coast is about a 1 hour drive away.


Nearest airports are Inverness (1 hour drive) and Aberdeen (1 hour 30 minute drive). Use of a car is absolutely essential as this property is 9 miles from the nearest town.


Aberlour 9 miles. Grantown on Spey 14 miles. Elgin 25 miles. Aviemore 27 miles. Inverness 48 miles.

Further Details:

Speyside is renowned for its Whisky, but there are many other attractions. Most outdoor activities are catered for to suit all levels of ability and fitness. There are castles and museums and activities to suit all ages. There is a folder in the Lodge with our favourite top 10 attractions!

Refundable Damage Deposit £100

Booking Notes:
A deposit of £100 is required to confirm a booking which is then held as a security deposit against breakages etc, that is returned immediately after the holiday if there are no problems. In the event of cancellation, the £100 deposit is only refunded if the Lodge is re-let for those dates. Full payment is required 7 weeks before the start of the holiday.

Changeover Day:
The changeover day is Saturday with arrival after 4pm and departure before 10am. We can be flexible if there are no other bookings either side.

Notes on prices:
Prices include electricity and linen.
Short breaks can be booked in advance during off-peak times (i.e. weeks priced at £340). At other times, short breaks can only be arranged within 4 weeks of the arrival date.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.

  • Notes on accommodation: Well behaved pets are accepted by prior arrangement and on the basis that they stay in the living area only so that the bedrooms are suitable for any guests with pet allergies. (Dogs are not permitted on the furniture). Please note: Cragganmore Lodge, and the neighbouring properties are supplied with spring water from a borehole which is filtered both at the common pump-house and then again within the lodge. Outside: There is sufficient parking for 3 cars and a lawn area around a barbecue with an 8 seater picnic bench. The property is not fenced off and although the road is quiet, the outside area is not suitable for small children or dogs to be left unsupervised. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bedding and towels are provided. If booking 2 weeks, a weekly change of linen can be arranged.
