Scandinavian Lodge at Cragganmore, Grampian, Scotland - Highland Tranquility Next to the River Spey in the Heart of Malt Whisky Country

Sleeps 8. Cragganmore Lodge has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area that copes with 8 people in comfort. Ideal as a base for walking, fishing, touring or simply relaxing in a very peaceful location on the banks of the River Spey along the road that leads to Cragganmore Distillery. There are many walks right from the Lodge (The Speyside Way passes within 100m) and within an hours drive there are numerous attractions such as the Cairngorm National Park, the Highland Capital Inverness, miles of the Morayshire Coast, and Whisky Distilleries too numerous to mention. There is a petrol station, shop and restaurant all within 2 miles.

About Howard Perkins

We have lived in Scotland since 1984 and have spent many years climbing mountains all over Scotland. We first started staying in holiday cottages when our daughter was born and wanted a place of our own ever since.

Why Howard Perkins chose Ballindalloch

The North East was an area that we hadn't visited much. It's only about 3 hours drive from the Central Belt of Scotland and so is easy to get to for weekends, but still far enough for it to be a world away. It is so easy to relax at Cragganmore - it is so peaceful and yet there is still plenty to do and explore. As many of our guests have said - a home away from home!

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Well behaved pets are accepted by prior arrangement and on the basis that they stay in the living area only so that the bedrooms are suitable for any guests with pet allergies. (Dogs are not permitted on the furniture). Please note: Cragganmore Lodge, and the neighbouring properties are supplied with spring water from a borehole which is filtered both at the common pump-house and then again within the lodge. Outside: There is sufficient parking for 3 cars and a lawn area around a barbecue with an 8 seater picnic bench. The property is not fenced off and although the road is quiet, the outside area is not suitable for small children or dogs to be left unsupervised. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bedding and towels are provided. If booking 2 weeks, a weekly change of linen can be arranged.

Cute lodge, very homey, loved it!

Everything was exactly as described and we had all the necessary information in the Phone-App for our arrival. The google maps location of the lodge is spot-on as well if you navigate with that; just search Cragganmore Lodge. Don't miss out on walking the Speyside way.

Comfortable Property in a Great Location

The property was warm and cosy. There is plenty of kitchen equipment as we like to cook as well as go out for the occasional meal, although I am quickly learning after renting a number of self catering cottages I need to take my own kitchen knives as they are always blunt.

Our dogs loved the place as well. The location is quiet and the property although not fenced has great parking for 2 vehicles and we found it easy to control our dogs despite being warned it is close to the road. If you dog tends to wander you might find this unsuitable as the road leads to a distillery and there are trucks travelling up and down at times.

There was an issue with the hot water during our stay but we reported it to the owners and we managed using the hot water booster as there was only 2 of us. The problem is being looked at. This basically meant that the shower over the bath upstairs was never hot enough as we kept forgetting to press the booster button. If the hot water is working properly it would be fine.

The furniture although older is clean and tidy and the property easily sleeps 8 people. Probably the only comment I would have about the bedrooms in the mattress on the double bed in the large upstairs room was very hard (and I like a hard mattress). I found it difficult to sleep so used the other room.

This is a great location close to the Speyside Way which we walk/bike alot and also close to Grantown-on-Spey and Arbelour. Plenty to see and do in the area.

We would recommend the property and the owners are very easy to contact and very efficient in the information they provide about the property. We would return.

Comfortable dwelling with well equiped kitchen; close to beautiful river Spey and other attractions.

We had a very comfortable eight day's stay. The property was clean and tidy and lovely to come back to after our sporting activities. We cooked all our own main meals. The beds were good and there is plenty of room to hang clothes. The water was always hot. We only had one problem in that we stopped using the downstairs shower unit because of difficulty in turning it off - there seemed to be something wrong with the pull switch. This is our second visit to Cragganmore Lodge and we look forward to coming again next year.

great short holidays, convenient base to visit Highlands, highly recommended

We spent 4 days in the lodge (Two families (4 adults and 5 kids)). We have found this property very comfortable for all our purposes. The lodge is spacious and well equipped. This place is situated in beautiful surroundings and close to main highlands attractions. Booking rules are flexible so we didn't book whole week or come on particularly day. Thanks to Howard for all help and advices.

Coast/Beach:

The Moray coast is about a 1 hour drive away.

Travel:

Nearest airports are Inverness (1 hour drive) and Aberdeen (1 hour 30 minute drive). Use of a car is absolutely essential as this property is 9 miles from the nearest town.

Distances:

Aberlour 9 miles. Grantown on Spey 14 miles. Elgin 25 miles. Aviemore 27 miles. Inverness 48 miles.

Further Details:

Speyside is renowned for its Whisky, but there are many other attractions. Most outdoor activities are catered for to suit all levels of ability and fitness. There are castles and museums and activities to suit all ages. There is a folder in the Lodge with our favourite top 10 attractions!
