House in Autignac, Languedoc-Rousillion, France - Peaceful Location Within Easy Reach Of Major Tourist Attractions And Cultural/Sporting Activities

A bright and spacious house with an open plan living/dining area and a well equipped kitchen.This opens onto a south facing terrace, great for alfresco dining. While the property has been modernised, it still has character with tiled floors, exposed oak beams and stone walls. There is a TV with freeview, DVDs, CD's and free internet access. Steps leading down from the terrace to the private garden and pool area (20sq.m) and the basement where there is ample car parking space. The bedrooms are all spacious and comfortable with king size beds. The house is a traditional vigneronne's and it is very peaceful and private. Set in a wine growing region, the village is still a busy wine producing one yet is very pretty with tree lined avenues and narrow cobbled streets. From there it is easy to get to the many Mediterranean beaches or into the hills and gorges of the Haute Languedoc National Park, the Canal du Midi or to the vibrant cities of Carcassonne and Montpelier.

Could not have been better.

This is a very nice house in the great little village of Autignac. Let's start with the house.

It is really very spacious and has absolutely everything you need to make your stay comfortable, we spent most of our days exploring the area but did spend a couple of days around Autignac, using the pool, eating Al fresco on the terrace whilst the children had a splash. The other area we used quite alot was the open plan, dining, living area with it's exposed beams. On a number of evenings we would eat in the house just making a simple pasta or rice dish, perhaps with some fish from the visiting fish monger on Thursday morning but other times we ate at the local bar which is plenty cheap enough and does decent food as well as being in the church square area so it really was nice on a hot summers evening. Each morning was started by an early morning walk to the local boulangerie for their delicious bread and there are a couple of local shops selling fresh fruit, veg cheeses, sausages, and a selection of wine and beers. One of the shops, just up the road from this house was very helpful and giving us a bit of direction around the area to local vinyards for degustations etc.

Just behind the house is Chateaux Autignac which has been totally renovated and you can often pop in their for a wine tasting for their Pres Lasses range of wines which we all thought were very nice and good value too. Stephanie, the Sommelier really knows her stuff and is a bit of a gem at helping you find nice places to visit also. We just walked up to the place and asked if they were doing wine tastings and immediately we were taken down for a tastng. Very good.

Like I said before the area of Autignac is an ideal base to explore this lovely region. Montpellier, Beziers, Carcassonne are all in easy reach as are the beaches and nearby the village of Roquebrun was great for swimming in the river and enjoying a spot of lunch.

The couple next door were on hand if you ever had any questions and the lady who came to do the cleaning was also helpful but to be fair, just about everyone we met were on the helpful side, like they really wanted you to enjoy the area.

Bill, one of the owners, gave us a call on on our second day to recommend a few things to us but there is a comprehensive information file in the house.

The beds were also very comfortable, didn't mention that before and also worth a mention (having stayed in holiday lets a lot) there is a lot of kitchen equipment. 5*

Beautiful house with every amenity, back again because we love it so much!

The village is everything you could wish for in a lovely area.

The property is what it says on the tin, and more, immaculate & well equipped.

I am sure we will be back, if available!

Great accommodation

We had a relaxing and memorable experience at The Olive Tree House in Autignac. I was surprised at how spacious the house was. It was clean and had everything to hand. Having wifi was also a plus point.

Upon arrival we went straight to the pool; it was so peaceful and idyllic.

The little village typifies France. We loved having the boulangerie (bakery), the old church and the surrounding vineyards. It was a rustic and traditional place to stay with modern cities close by (shopping, entertainment etc.). We would definitely recommend visiting the Gorges D'heric.

Having been both with and without children I think it is an ideal house for either a family or couple's retreat.

Overall I would definitely recommend staying at the olive tree house. The house was like a beautiful home from home.

  • Outside: The garden is paved with a number of Mediterranean style plants including lavender, lemon, geraniums, palms and an olive tree. The pool is private and surrounded by a high stone wall for privacy. The pool is approximately 20 sq m and there is a poolside heated shower and toilet available. There are ample sun loungers, umbrellas and seating available. While it is a south facing garden there are shady areas to relax in. The garden has an original old stone well and wheel in it which adds character but has been made safe. There is a barbecue available and a number of pool and garden games in the basement. Utility Room: The washing machine is kept in the basement along with a clothes horse and washing line. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. House is cleaned at the end of your stay however we would ask that you leave the property clean and tidy as there is usually a quick turnaround time before the next guests arrive. Cleaning can be arranged for longer stays. Other: There are a number of bicycles along with safety helmets that you are at liberty to use. Please note that guests use the bicycles at their own risk. There is a surround system hi-fi / DVD system , and we have French satellite (no UK channels). There
