About the property

Le Peynau

At Le Peynau we provide self-catering holiday accommodation in two charming French country cottages or "gites". Our guests tell us that it's both the setting and attention to detail inside the gites that makes our holiday accommodation so special. Both of our gites have been sympathetically converted from former wine-making buildings and retain much French character and charm. The grounds consist of a 2.5 acre estate nestled among vineyards and sunflower fields in the Dordogne region of SW France. Le Peynau is situated just 20km SW of Bergerac and the Dordogne River and only 6 minutes from the medieval market town of Eymet where, along with an excellent range of restaurants and cafe-bars, you will find a choice of 3 boulangeries for your fresh croissants each morning.

The gites are available to let individually or together and are 150 metres apart, each with its own private dining terrace. They have Wi-Fi Internet access and UK Freeview TV Channels.

On-site facilities include a swimming pool and games courtyard with boules, ping-pong and pool table.

About Rachel Jones

I moved to France with my husband in 2007 and our daughter was born here in 2012.

Rachel Jones purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Rachel Jones chose Perigord Pourpre

We considered a number of regions before choosing the Dordogne. It was the pretty towns and villages, undulating landscape, pace of life, climate and the ease of access from the UK that attracted us.

What makes this cottage unique

One of our favourite things is the Sunday lunchtime market at Soumensac which is just 2kms from our property (held in July and August). You pitch up and enjoy delicious, freshly prepared food and wine from local producers. The tables and chairs are positioned in the shade of chestnut trees and to take advantage of the stunning panoramic view. Such a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

We have just returned from a fantastic fortnight at Le Peynau - our best family holiday ever.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Le Pige, which was absolutely charming. The gite was well equipped and beautifully decorated. Rachel and Chris were excellent hosts and ensured that we were fully informed about the local day and evening markets. We have never eaten out so well or, indeed, so cheaply! Le Peynau is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We spent many a lazy day by the pool and thoroughly enjoyed our family barbeques on the beautiful patio area. An idyllic home from home. Wonderful.

Fantastic holiday at Le Pige, beautiful accommodation and amazing hosts!!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in the Dordogne staying at Le Pige. The property was amazing, Immaculately looked after with real love and care. The pool was beautifully maintained and there was a great hammock to laze away the days in!! The area was so pretty with Sunflowers in full bloom and vineyards aplenty. There were many markets in Eymet and the local surrounding areas giving us a great opportunity to sample the local food and wine. Evenings were spent at the restaurants and bars in Eymet or just staying in cooking great food and gazing up at the stars that were so clear to see.

Rachel and Chris are lovely hosts with so much local knowledge - this is a real treat of a property. Such a relaxing holiday, we will be back!!!! X

A peace of heaven and tranquillity at Le Pigeonnier

  • 5 of 5

We just came back after 2 wonderful weeks in Dordogne. We really enjoyed our stay at the Le Pigeonnier ("Le Pige") and the rest of Le Peynau. It's a fantastic calm place, a real little piece of paradise and what you hope for when you dream yourself away on a long cold winter's night. The quality and careful restoration of Le Peynau is amazing. Furthermore, Rachel, Chris and Ellie are such great hosts with many good tips for trips and local life. We really enjoyed the Sunday Marché Gourmand (lunch) in nearby Soumensac village. We all ready talk about what we'll do next time we come back: spend more time in the pool!!!! Thanks a lot for everything, dear Rachel, Chris and Ellie, we really got a "taste" for Dordogne. See you in 2019.

Kind regards from

Noah, Per and Tanni

A lovely property in beautiful surroundings

  • 4 of 5

Very easy to find following the owners directions the cottage was beautifully placed amongst the vineyards of the Dordogne. The cottage had all the facilities to support a stay both internally and externally and was well placed for travel throughout the area. A very warm welcome from the owner/family who weren't intrusive but were available to provide recommendation and guidance. We arrived during slightly hotter temperatures than normal with the only slight negative being the heat within the cottage at night and the failure of the fan to reduce this significantly.

Owner's Response: Many thanks, Neil and Patricia, for posting your kind review. I'm delighted that we played a small part in making your first stay in the Dordogne a happy one. It's rare for the temperature here to reach 40 degrees, although it did during your stay. Appreciate the feedback and have oscillating, 3-speed fans in all bedrooms.

Complete relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at "Le Pige" will go down as one of the most joyous holidays that our family have ever had. Rachel and Chris are the most perfect hosts, never intrusive they just seem to know when they might just be needed and along with the delightful little Ellie they made our stay a perfect one. Set in a beautiful area of the Dordogne, it was a joy to drive to some of the neighbouring towns through the gently rolling countryside decorated with stunning sunflower fields and lush green vinyards. Our children loved the pool area and would have been more than happy to have spent the whole of our stay swimming in the pool and playing monopoly on the patio area. If "Le Pige" has a problem with it, that is it. You just don't want to leave it.

Needless to say we'll be coming back.

Absolute Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We booked Le Pigeonnier (Le Pige) for the first week in August hoping for a relaxing time in a great property in a beautiful location. We weren't disappointed - in fact Le Pige exceeded our hopes and we had an absolutely fantastic week. We have visited the Dordogne a number of times and usually dash around to see the many beautiful sights, but Le Peynau is so lovely we just wanted to stay in the gite and chill by the great pool. That said, Eymet and Duras were easy to get to and well worth visiting. Rachel, Chris and little Ellie were great hosts and gave us some excellent recommendations for local places to see. Le Pige was very well equipped and beautifully presented and the four of us were very comfortable. The setting was absolutely stunning, with views over fields of sunflowers to the woods beyond. We were blessed with superb weather, but understand from Rachel and Chris that we had typically warm weather with endless blue skies.

Needless to say, we would highly recommend Le Pige and Le Peynau and will definitely be returning.
