About the property

Le Peynau

At Le Peynau we provide self-catering holiday accommodation in two charming French country cottages or "gites". Our guests tell us that it's both the setting and attention to detail inside the gites that makes our holiday accommodation so special. Both of our gites have been sympathetically converted from former wine-making buildings and retain much French character and charm. The grounds consist of a 2.5 acre estate nestled among vineyards and sunflower fields in the Dordogne region of SW France. Le Peynau is situated just 20km SW of Bergerac and the Dordogne River and only 6 minutes from the medieval market town of Eymet where, along with an excellent range of restaurants and cafe-bars, you will find a choice of 3 boulangeries for your fresh croissants each morning.

The gites are available to let individually or together and are 150 metres apart, each with its own private dining terrace. They have Wi-Fi Internet access and UK Freeview TV Channels.

On-site facilities include a swimming pool and games courtyard with boules, ping-pong and pool table.

About Rachel Jones

I moved to France with my husband in 2007 and our daughter was born here in 2012.

Rachel Jones purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Rachel Jones chose Eymet

We considered a number of regions before choosing the Dordogne. It was the pretty towns and villages, undulating landscape, pace of life, climate and the ease of access from the UK that attracted us.

What makes this cottage unique

One of our favourite things is the Sunday lunchtime market at Soumensac which is just 2kms from our property (held in July and August). You pitch up and enjoy delicious, freshly prepared food and wine from local producers. The tables and chairs are positioned in the shade of chestnut trees and to take advantage of the stunning panoramic view. Such a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

High quality accommodation in most tranquil surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Le Chai for 2 weeks and had a wonderful time. We are a family of 4 but decided to rent the bigger gite as we have one 8 year old daughter and one teenage boy. They were delighted to have their own bedroom. The gite is well laid out; one big open space accommodates a sitting area around TV and log burner, a kitchen arranged in the corner and a dining table for 6. Plenty of storage for groceries and the kitchen is very well equipped. The children's bedroom were next to each other near one shower room and separate toilet (plus washing machine) with plenty of storage again. The parents’ room plus another bathroom were at the other end of the gite. Beds were all made when we arrived and towels were provided, which is not always the case in rentals. We enjoyed all our meals on the patio outside. A badminton net and washing line were also installed in the garden. Just around the corner from the gite was a lovely pool with sun loungers. The pool is shared with the residents from the other gite but is large enough to accommodate everyone. No risk of overcrowding! In the courtyard, guests have access to tennis table, pool table and boules. All of which we had pleasure to try. We were in the middle of the fields, very relaxing and tranquil environment with seldom cars passing by. However, the town of Eymet is just a few minutes away with all commodities in hand. The local area has an abundance of charming villages, markets, castles etc. But most of all, what makes this holiday cottage such a great choice is the warm welcome from Rachel, Chris and Ellie. They will make sure you have everything you need (thank you for the French TV!) and will enthusiastically share with you their local knowledge (thank you for the ‘marches gourmands’ in Soumensac and Sigoules!).

Perfect rural rental in the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

Accommodation was excellent good quality equipment with large private outside space for dining and sun bathing , externally great pool and facilities for children table tennis , bowls ,badminton and pool. Best parts the silence, wildlife owls and deers and stars at night . We missed the sunflowers in bloom but can imagine how it would look in June / July ... Highly recommended

Wonderful, relaxing place to go

  • 5 of 5

We'd wholeheartedly recommend Le Peynau. Chris, Rachel and Ellie are wonderful hosts with lots of recommendations for things to do in the area (if you can drag yourself away from the pool). They helped us find places to canoe, eat and explore. Le Chai was really well-equipped - they have thought of all the little details to make your stay easier so there were no 'if only there was a...' moments in the kitchen. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and easy to explore on foot, or you can borrow a bike and go further afield. We particularly loved the pool, it is gorgeous and immaculately maintained, while the grounds were brilliant for the kids to explore and play. A fantastic holiday - we all wish we were still there! Thanks to Chris, Ellie and Rachel for a magical time.

A fabulous place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

"Le chai" was so comfortable that it felt immediately like home. Perfect for a family of 6. There's so much outside space for the kids to explore too. Our 4 girls loved the chickens, the bee-hives, an abundance of wildlife and trying to catch elusive lizards! They also loved the swimming pool, table tennis, boules, badminton, slide and swings. The adults loved the tranquility of Le Peynau and being able to really relax. This is the sort of place that makes you want to sell up and move to France! Thanks to Rachel, Chris and Ellie for making it such a perfect holiday.
