A private estate with accommodation for larger groups or families of up to 20 people. Set in a stunning position at the edge of the Sierra Almijara National Park, with views down the valley to the coast, and on clear days, the mountains of North Africa. The white-washed Andalusian village of Competa is only 10 minutes away, and the beaches can be reached in approx 15 minutes. An ideal hideaway for walking holidays, exploring the area, or just lazing by the pool.

About David and Sarah Mills

Val and Steve Bowen have owned property in and around Competa for the last 15 years, and having sold a successful Restaurant business in Herefordshire, moved full time to Competa in 2001.

We bought more rental property and Competa Holidays was born.

The best part of being in this business is that we meet people from all over the world, and many have become very good friends, some of whom have even bought holiday homes here themselves.

We look after all the villas ourselves, and always try to be around to greet guests when they arrive, not only to get them settled in, but also to answer any questions that they may have regarding the local area.

Our aim is to make our guests welcome, ensure that they enjoy their stay in Competa, and hope that they will return next year.

Outside: Large private gardens, plenty of sun terraces, and a 10m x 5m swimming pool. Ample tables and chairs, sunbeds, and BBQ area. Ideal for children. Utility Room: Irons and ironing boards. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bedlinen and towels are provided. All we ask is that guests supply their own pool/beach towels. Final clean is included in the price. Other: Separate log cabin with another TV, and library. Ideal for the kids to play in.

Fabulous jewel hidden in Competa

Fantastic break away in a beautiful location with wonderful hosts, Sarah and David. The guided walk was amazing - very informative with spectacular scenery. The food was superb - the South African curries were absolutely delicious, the home made chutneys delightful. We will definitely be going back and would recommend it to anyone, from families to large groups to single travellers.

Competa, dating back to the Moors, and whose style is reflected in its winding streets and whitewashed houses, has many excellent restaurants and bars and the local inhabitants are content to sit in the central square, drink coffee and wish the stranger, Buenos dias!

The village six hundred and fifty metres above sea level and from its flower bedecked streets and plazas there are spectacular views of sea, countryside and mountains. It is still an active and hard working agricultural town which makes an important contribution to the industry of the province with abundant crops of olives, almonds, grapes, raisins, figs and, above all, its famous wine, Vino de Cómpeta, which is renowned worldwide. In recent years a variety of tropical fruit has been successfully cultivated here. Mango, chirimoya and avocado plantations thrive on the sheltered slopes around Cómpeta. The Sierras lie to the north, snow-capped in winter, the wide blue expanse of the Mediterranean to the south. If an earthly paradise could exist the Axarquia would have to be its name.

This tranquil village is still, as of old, welcoming and assimilating those weary travellers who are seeking a less stressful lifestyle in one of the best climates in the Europe. It weaves its magic gently and the "mañana" philosophy, anathema to those impatient ones who seek instant gratification, slowly soothes and relaxes the tension of other, more demanding lifestyles.
