Apartment in Bagneres de Bigorre, Haute Pyrenees, France - Central Location But Close To Mountains, Lakes And, In The Winter, Skiing

Bagnères-de-Bigorre, a charming spa town in the Pyrénées and long visited by the French sees few foreign visitors. Perhaps this is why the locals are so friendly! Our apartment is in the heart of the old town yet is in a beautiful and peaceful location which includes a shared but private courtyard garden overlooked by our balcony. It is on the first and second floors of an old converted hotel and is accessible via a spiral staircase. The first floor is an open plan living room with a well-equipped kitchen. A separate utility room contains a washing machine and dryer. Stairs lead up from the living room to the three bedrooms (one double, two twins), the bathroom and the shower room (each of these has a WC). A fold up bed can be put up in the larger of the twin rooms and a cot is available. So we can sleep up to 7 adults (or 8 if 2 + are children). We have internet access and a phone. The TV gives several English programmes as well as French ones. There is also a radio/CD player. Final cleaning, bed linen, towels and a welcome pack of essentials and a bottle of wine are included in the price.

Why Jane Seaford chose Bagnères-de-Bigorre

My daughter & I bought this flat in the charming Pyrenean town of Bagnères-de-Bigorre as we were both born in the UK &, although we now live in New Zealand, we wanted a place in Europe suitable for both summer & winter - skiing - holidays. Staying with friends in the area I visited the town & loved it. A year later, ready to buy, this flat was the first property I visited in a packed 3 days of looking at places for sale. It was perfect; nothing else I saw was anywhere near as good. So I made an offer, had it accepted and was in the notaire’s office the following morning. We love staying in the flat;family and friends love it, too. And every guest who has rented it tell us how much they have enjoyed their visit. I smile every time I think of the place and the pleasure it has bought so many.

What makes this apartment unique

There is nothing about the flat - so central yet so calm and peaceful, or the town - so charmingly French, or the area - wonderful mountains, superb countryside - that we would change.

Notes on accommodation: The apartment is centrally heated and there is also a feature electric fire in the living room. It is great for children – you can sit on the balcony with your cup of coffee while they play downstairs in the courtyard! As it is reached by a spiral staircase the place does not have wheelchair access and is not suitable for anyone who would find using such a staircase difficult. We ask you not to smoke in our flat and pets are not allowed. The rent includes a pack of basic essentials for you when you arrive – and a welcome bottle of wine. It also covers electricity, gas and water usage, wireless internet and final cleaning. There are no extra charges. If you bringing small kids there is a travel cot and high chair available in the apartment. Please let us know if you will be wanting to use these so that we can make them available. Finally, you can make free phone calls to landlines both locally and to most other countries, as well. Outside: We have a balcony and a large, shared, private courtyard. Free parking is available a few minutes away in the town. Utility Room: There is a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board in the utility room. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Final cleaning is included in the price and there is plenty of bed linen and towels. Other: Leading off the courtyard is a large shared room where skis or bikes can be stored.

Lovely Apartment in centre of Bagneres

Good apartment in the very centre of Bagneres. First floor apartment off little communal passage in the lane behind the Pizzeria. Property was clean, quiet, comfortable and very well equipped. Had a very comfortable stay and thought the flat was good value. Jane helpful, deposit promptly and proactively returned. Bernie and Graeme who gave us access to the flat very responsive (met us when we arrived late Saturday evening and bailed us out when we mislaid a key).

An Amazing Stay! Magnifique!

We had an amazing stay in a comfortable warm apartment with a choice of bakers a little walk away, freshly pressed oranges every morning, restaurants around the corner with coffees and delicious food. The mountains close by, the spa nearby, an apartment where we would liked to have stayed for a much longer time then the one week we had.

We could find everything we needed inside the apartment including an orange juicer which we used every day and the books on the landing.

Also I would like to mention that the communication with the owner has been great even though we were booking the apartment only a few weeks before arrival and we had arrival and leaving days which were out of the ordinary, we felt there was lots of room for negotiation and the whole experience has felt generous and easy.

Quiet apartment in Heart of Bagneres de BdB

Had a superb week . The welcome from Graham and Bernie who met us in the square outside and then showed us round was great and the apartment was very clean and tidy just as in the photos.

The central location meant we could go off independently to market, shops and the many eating out possibilities.

Car parking in square outsidefree overnight (but only 20 cents for first 55 mins past 9.00am in meter) or or a few minutes walk down by river

Superb quiet apartment in very heart of Bagneres

We received a warm welcome on arrival from Graham and Bernie who met us as arranged in the square and thereafter everything was exactly as described.

The three bedrooms and two bathrooms accommodated the 5 of us fine and the open plan downstairs proved really comfortable. The outlook onto the enclosed courtyard was both pretty and very quiet. Central location ideal for easy access to the extensive shops, markets and eating places of Bagneres.

All the hot water and equipment worked fine.

Recommend to anyone other than those who can't cope with the spiral stairs to get to the front door!

We had a wonderful stay in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the apartment helped contribute to that. Graham and Bernie were there to welcome us and show us the ropes. The apartment is very comfortable and secure, and conveniently close to shops and restaurants.

The town has a French feel with little foreign tourism presence or impact, and our poor French was no problem with locals who had a very friendly attitude. BdB was certainly well placed for what we wanted to see and do, big enough to have all amenities but quiet and peaceful at the same time. The Saturday market was a great way to rest the limbs after our hiking and enjoy town and wind up our all too short stay.

We arrived earlier than planned and phoned Bernie on the number we had been given to ask if we could gain entry. No problem, and Bernie and Graham arrived within ten minutes and let us in and gave us a briefing on the apartment and the local attractions.

The apartment is one of the most comfortable we have stayed in with plenty of hot water and heating. Although situated in the middle of Bagneres, it was quiet and secure and with free parking just a few minutes away. The town itself has plenty of interest, shops and restaurants and within easy reach are Lourdes, Cirque de Gavarnie and the interesting town of Pau.

The apartment is fully equipped, very comfortable and conveniently situated. We would certainly book it again.

We are a 2 hour drive to the West coast of France and the town of Biarritz.


You can get to our place by car or by plane. We are 10 hours drive from Calais and the nearest airports are Pau (I hour drive away), Tarbes (30 minutes) and Toulouse (1 hour 40 minutes). Hire care is available from all of these. You can also travel by train.


Pau (60km way) and Tarbes (17km away) are both excellent places to visit and to shop. From Bagnères-de-Bigorre you can also easily get to many other attractions such as the sanctuary at Lourdes, the Pic du Midi observatory and the Cirque du Gavarnie (a UNESCO world heritage site).The Atlantic coast and Spain are accessible for day trips

Further Details:

Bagnères-de-Bigorre is a spa town and a visit to the thermal spa with roof top Jacuzzis and sun deck is highly recommended. In addition there are a casino, a swimming pool, cinema, museum, a market and mini-golf. The town is also ideally situated for all sorts of sporting activities, including cycling, hiking, fishing, climbing, golf, canoeing and skiing in the winter. It’s a lovely location, a river flows through the town and there are amazing views of the surrounding countryside and mountains.

Shopping - As well as supermarkets, there are all sorts of specialist shops in town. And if you’re there on a Saturday you must meander down to the marvellous market.

Eating and Drinking - Well what can we say? This is France and Bagnères-de-Bigorre abounds with restaurants, great cafés and bars. There’s an excellent pizzeria with a very friendly owner just across the road from the apartment.

The Tour de France often passes through the town and two of its most famous climbs are nearby: the Col de Tourmalet and the Col d'Aspen. Bring your bike or rent one and you, too, can try these out. There’s more gently cycling for the less fanatical and mountain biking as well. Planetair65 in the town rents – and repairs – bikes. You can also hire fishing equipment, among other things, from them.

Booking Notes:
The nightly price is for the first night to cover costs. 2nd and subsequent nights are MUCH cheaper. Sadly this website doesn't allow us to display these rates.

Here's how the booking process works: once you have decided that you want to rent our place we will send you a Paypal invoice for a deposit of a third of the rental price. You can use debit or credit cards with Paypal. The only extra we ask for is a bond of 220 Euros or £200. This will be returned within a week of you leaving the apartment, unless we need to use it for repairs etc. We ask you to pay the bond and the rental balance at least eight weeks before your date of arrival and will remind you of this by email.

Changeover Day:
For weekly booking the changeover day is Sunday. This is so that you can visit the big street market only open on Saturdays. (And spend the last of your Euros!) But we are flexible on this.

Notes on prices:
Prices are inclusive of gas, water, electricity, internet & landline phone calls. They cover final cleaning and a welcome pack of essentials for when you arrive, including a bottle of wine. If you book for 2 or more weeks we offer a discount of 10%. For longer please contact us and we'll see what we can do. You can book for any period from 1 night to many weeks. Contact us for our daily rates.
