Our hearts have always beaten for Andalusia, actually for more than 25 years now.

When we decided to buy a second residence, we knew it has to be not too far (2 hours flight from Brussels) and located in Andalusia.

There is something "magic" in the air here.

Hard to describe in words, you have to "live" Andalusia and enjoy it sweetness, tranquility, culture, climate...

We knew Iznajar region very well. This location is ideal to reach Andalousian historical cities: Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla and, of course, Malaga and Marbella.

We found this old "cortijo" (farmhouse) in 2009.

What we first loved was the architecture and surroundings. Casa Blanca is located in the middle of Olive trees. The house had great potential and we've done quite nice reforms.

Casa Blanca offers nowadays all comfort and privacy that you can expect from a holiday house.

Spent a week with the family here. Beautiful location and lovely house. Very very relaxing. The two tiers with space to relax near the pool were really special particularly in the morning and late afternoon.

Outside: The house is set within 4,000 square metres of its own olive grove offering privacy but still with good road access, suitable for all type of cars. Terrace 1: on the lower level, the swimming pool area, with a panoramic and stunning view (till Sierra Nevada at 70km!) has a 10 x 5 m saline/salt pool which ranges from 1m to 1.5m in depth and has underwater lighting. Poolside shower. 6 comfortable sunbeds. Terrace 2: on the next level, vine covered terrace (120 m2) with table and chairs for 10 people, and BBQ. Terrace 3: the Moroccan style roof terrace is furnished with sofa and candelabras. Utility Room: A washing machine is also available here. Second fridge, iron, ironing board, pool toys, BBQ. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen and towels included. Other: Lounge/office (first floor) : satellite connection with WiFi, library with many books, DVDs, desk and sofa/bed. BBQ, fans, central heating.

Fabulous villa with superb outdoor space

Villa Casa Blanca is a lovely farmhouse which has been beautifully restored. It is at the end of a track past a number of other villas, but feels totally secluded. The villa itself is nicely laid out with a small kitchen, sitting room and dining room downstairs and a couple of large bedrooms, each with their own shower room upstairs. But what really made this villa special for us was the fabulous outdoor space. Outside the house is a lovely large shady terrace, where we enjoyed breakfast every day, including fresh figs from the huge fig tree in the garden. Down a flight of stone steps is the pool - very large and a perfect temperature - with lots of space around it to laze in the sun. And next to that is a fantastic shaded pergola with sofas, hammocks and a huge dining table, all with superb views over olive covered hills.

We (two adults, two 13 year olds and one 16 year old) had a superb week, spending nearly all the time enjoying the excellent outdoor space, and wish we could have stayed longer. I feel that the other review, from someone who must have stayed at the villa at roughly the same time as us, does not do the villa justice at all (apart from the absence of a kettle, and a strange barbeque that we could not get to light). The sail above the breakfast table had been damaged by strong winds, but that did not stop it being a perfect spot for breakfast in the shade of the tree.

Inside there was a nice selection of DVDs to watch in the evenings, or when it got too hot outside. Michael was a very helpful owner, providing quick and helpful answers to all my questions and leaving some very useful information about the surrounding area, including good restaurant tips.

Fabulous pool area but overall disappointing

Having rented holiday villas for over 10 years in Andalucía, we are always happy to pay a little more to have a property that matches (or exceeds) our expectation. In this case it did not match our expectation and the owners seem disinterested in the complaints we made. Although the pool area is lovely and the views are amazing, maintenance of the property seems to have slipped. When we arrived the sail sunshade over the outside table was badly damaged and provided little protection from the sun. In addition, the dining chairs were unsteady because the fixings needed tightening and one chair has a broken arm. Also many of the cushions have large holes because they are so worn and the filling was constantly coming out. We had water shooting all over one bathroom from a broken shower and had to report this so it could be fixed and there were several lights that did not work. We were very surprised that a “fully equipped kitchen” did not have something as basic as a kettle and after we bought one the owners did not offer to pay for it. (Needless to say we did not leave it). A maid service is advertised but this is actually a cleaning service at the end of your stay. We had to wash our own towels and pillow cases at the end of the first week and hunt around for fresh bedlinen. Some was delivered after I complained but it was too late and too little for five people. The details for the house mentioned having a “Moroccan style roof terrace furnished with sofa and candelabras”. This was actually four dirty plastic chairs and a parasol base we could not move. Overall our party was sad and disappointed that the house did not live up to our expectations and the customer service in our opinion was really poor. We've had no response to our written complaints and we would not recommend this property to anyone.

The Costa del Sol is only 1 hour drive with beaches from Nerja, through Malaga to Marbella. Malaga International Airport: approx 60 min.

Iznajar is a friendly town only 15 mins drive away with several well stocked stores, 3 butchers and a fish market where you can purchase all your supplies. There is also a general market on Tuesdays. Andalucian cities offer much to explore including moorish world heritage sites at Granada (1 hour) and Cordoba (1 hours). In addition Seville (2 hours), Malaga (1 hour), Ronda (2 hours) and Antequera (40 mins) offer many fabulous buildings, shops and interesting streets to explore.

Further Details:

The nearest big supermarket is in Rute or Archidona 25 minutes. Iznajar has numerous small shops and small supermarkets. Bars and restaurants in Iznajar.
