Penthouse With Air Con, Wifi & Terrace With Panoramic Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 16-Oct-2016
Penthouse Apartment in Alora, Costa del Sol (Indland), Spain - 5 Minute Walk To The Restaurants, Bars, Supermarket And Town Centre. 20 Min Drive To El Chorro Lakes

A brand new one bedroom penthouse located in a cul de sac with ample parking right outside the building but also has a basement garage. The location is ideal for people not wanting to negotiate the narrow and winding streets of a typical whitewashed Andalusian village because it is located right at the edge of town. It is still only 5 minutes walk away to the Alora town centre where you can find all the shops, restaurants, tapas bars and supermarket. The penthouse has a modern kitchen, WIFI, Sky TV and air con/heater. Alora is a traditional Andalucian whitewashed village sitting on top of the hills of El Hacho, which is 400 metres above sea level. A traditional Spanish working village, with its narrow, winding, cobbled streets and local shops, you will find a wide variety of restaurants and tapas bars. Alora is very popular with golfers, walkers and climbers as it is only 20 minutes from the beautiful Andalucian Lake District of El Chorro, famous for its gorge and rock climbing.

About the Owner

We are a couple from London and moved here in this lovely white washed village 10 years ago and we never looked back. We just love where we are because of the lovely scenery and very welcoming locals. We have integrated well with the Spanish which was easy since we both speak fluent Spanish. We love our lifestyle here in Alora, so laid back and stress-free, we have adapted the Spanish way of life, and that is "we work to live and not to live to work". Our daily lives are enhanced by the presence of our Cocker Spaniel and Dachshund. My husband has hotel and food and beverage background, having worked for major hotels in the Far East as well as restaurants in London, while I had worked in Public Relations back in London.

Guestbook comments from the owner

5 Nov 2010. A wonderful apartment in a lovely, typical Spanish town. The locals are very welcoming and there's plenty to do in and around Alora. The hosts, Helen and Steve, went out of their way to ensure our stay was wonderful. I'm sure that they'll do the same for you. Chris & Zoë, Manchester.

17-24 Nov 2010. Had a very comfortable stay and a very warm welcome from Helen & Steve.

The apartment had everything we could possibly need and more! A great base for our cycling holiday with many routes direct from the door. Will remember this place for future. Sarah and Martin Boyson, UK.

23 Dec 2010 to 8 Jan 2011. From morning till dawn we were climbing and had lots of fun. Thank you for your caring and for the oranges. The weather was perfect and even on the 2 rainy days we were able to climb. We'll recommend you and best regards. Annette and Jörg, Germany.

Fantastic apartment in a lovely village

  • 5 of 5

A lovely, well equipped and tastefully decorated, comfortable apartment. Alora is a welcoming village with an excellent selection of bars, restaurants and a variety of shops catering for everything we required for a two week holiday. The owners, Steve and Helen made us feel very welcome and we now regard them as friends. They arranged transport from the airport, met us at the apartment, provided the best and most comprehensive welcome pack EVER, drove us round the village the following day and pointed us in the direction of tapas bars and restaurants and supermarkets, printed boarding passes, drove us to the train station and did everything they could to make us feel very welcome. We cannot recommend this apartment and the owners enough and we will be back there next year with a view to buying our own property.Helen and Steve introduced us to local estate agents and gave valuable advice regarding property purchase in the area. The property itself has quality kitchen equipment which is important when the tapas bars have been exhausted and the views from the balcony are beautiful. Already looking at flights for a return visit!

Fantastic apartment in Alora

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our climbing holiday in this beautiful apartment.

The apartment is very well equipped and has everything what is needed for a comfortable stay. It is also very well situated in Alora - easy to walk to the bars, supermarket and not far from amazing climbing area in El Chorro.

Helen and Steve waited at the apartment to greet us, were very helpful and provided us with the welcome pack (so we didn´t have to go shopping immediately).

We can only recommend this place and we are really considering to come back another time.

Perched on the edge of town

  • 3 of 5

This is a well-equipped clean apartment located on the edge of town with good transport connections further inland and to Malaga. The train connections from the airport to Alora worked out smoothly. We didn't meet Helen and Steve until the day we left because they were with relatives in Granada when we arrived. So we didn't get any first hand advice about places to eat or visit nor transport options. Alora is built on steep slopes with a warren of narrow streets and and we quickly found acceptable good value places to eat but none of them would be on my top 10 list. Over the course of our week's stay sightseeing in Alora occupied about a day total. We climbed El Hacho by a long circuitous track but apart from the extensive views it was rather boring. We took the train and bus to El Chorro several times and explored good trails in the area and the famous Caminito del Rey. But to explore further afield you need a car.

We visited Malaga on a torrentially wet day but were able to enjoy the main sights either side of the downpour.

Two issues that disappointed about the apartment were that the circular floorplate by the WC leaked and the cacophony of barking dogs at night. The latter made for an interrupted sleep and we had to close the double patio doors for sound proofing which cut down ventilation.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry about Ron's review but as far from what Glennys (the wife) wrote in the guests book which it a very positive review so we are puzzled by the above. Since we had to accompany my visiting cousins to Granada on the noon of the arrival of Glennys and Ron we HIRED Mariflor to fetch them from the train station to take them to the apartment which is a 6 minute drive. Upon getting back from Granada I called up Glennys so we can come over to welcome them officially but she dissuaded us by saying that they know where everything is and they are in town enjoying some tapas and sampling the local wine. She reassured me that everything was great and they love the apartment. The apartment is equipped with an information pack all about the apartment, the ins and outs of Alora, transport links and the recommended restaurants and tapas bars with matching photos (for they know what to watch for) and how to get there. The could have guided them accordingly and I know they did not miss it because it was right by the guest book which Glennys filled out. As far as the circular floor plate is concerned they only informed us about it when we came to fetch them to take them the train station on their departure. It only took us (not even the plumber) to correct it in less them 5 minutes. Apparently somebody flush down the loo a kitchen towel which was blocking the drain. Pity, if they only called right away that would not have been rectified right away, all they have to do is notify us. Since the flat is located at the edge of the town we have no control on dogs roaming in the countryside but we took precaution by having not only double glazing but quadruple glazing to keep out the noise and we have a con-conditioned/heating system that would make holidaymakers stay comfortable. I am sorry if they find Alora boring but we have holidaymakers that come back year after year for the great views, food and friendly locals. We have other holiday let properties in Alora, a 3 bed villa (S11370) with a private pool and a luxury 2 bed penthouse (S10936) and we always had 5 star reviews and this is our first 3 star review. Well, there is no pleasing people all the time.

Viva Alora!!

  • 5 of 5

My Wife, Tracy and I had a wonderful two weeks vacation in Alora. Helen and Steve provided the perfect place to stay, the apartment was exactly as we envisaged prior to arriving.

Helen and Steve were at the apartment to greet us and were very helpful with the where, what and how of the town and the surrounding area, as in shops, the all important tapas bars and restaurants and interesting places to visit. They also provided us with a Welcome Pack of necessities which was very considerate and takes away the immediate pressure to go shopping.

The apartment was everything as described and provided the perfect base for our holiday. It is very much a home from home and is equipped to a very high standard. One unforgettable element is the incredible view from the balcony, I never tired of just gazing out on the beautiful landscape of Andalucia, a perfect place to sit and relax, drinking in the view.

It was very obvious to us both that Helen and Steve work very hard to ensure that their guests have a comfortable and enjoyable holiday, their helpful presence when needed was an added bonus.

All in all, a wonderful holiday in a very special place - of course, we will be returning.

Good Climbing/Walking Base

  • 4 of 5

A comfortable well-equipped apartment ideally situated for our needs. Helen and Steve made us most welcome on arrival. We were very pleased with our individually-tailored welcome-pack! We made the most of our time there. We climbed or walked every day, and enjoyed our stay in Alora

Superb apartment

  • 5 of 5

Helen and Steve's apartment was a fantastic base for our climbing holiday. We were met at the apartment by Helen and Steve who made us feel very welcome and gave lots of useful advice about the town of Alora such as where all the supermarkets were and places to eat out etc. They really went out their way to make sure we were happy. The apartment itself was ideale with all the facilities you need for a stay including a good selection of DVDs and books. The welcome hamper was a fantastic touch meaning we didn't need to worry about shopping for the start of our stay. If ever i was to go back to Alora i'd definitely be checking to see if this apartment was available!

Location

From the Owner

We bought this penthouse last May 2010 because it is in a street where all the houses have lovely mantained gardens/front terraces. We have another penthouse in Alora, right by the towncentre while this new one is at the edge of town and holidaymakers need not negotiate the narrow and winding streets of a typical Andalusian whitewashed village for they. Another reason was it has an ample back terrace with lovely views of the mountains, countryside and partial views of the town as well. The building has only 8 units, in a cul de sac so ample parking right outside the building or you could use the private basement garage.
