La Germainiere is a lovely old farmhouse that has been completely renovated and is set in rural Normandy 15 minutes from quiet sandy beaches. The house is modernised and beautifully furnished and has 6 spacious bedrooms, a well fitted kitchen and breakfast area, large beamed drawing room with magnificent Normandy fireplace, dining room with table for 12 and a table tennis room. French doors lead to the beautiful mature gardens and to the lovely 10x5m swimming pool set on the lower lawn. The sun terrace is a real suntrap and has pretty views over the surrounding countryside and wooded valley below. Sun loungers, poolside furniture and BBQ are provided. Nearby the pretty villages of Grimesnil and Hambye offer bars, restaurants and a market in addition to other shops where you can buy fresh food. The spacious, centrally heated farmhouse is spread over three floors and has been renovated to a very high standard.The house is close to Mont St Michel, D-Day Beaches, Bayeux Tapestry and many chateaux.

We had an absolutely idyllic week at La Germaniere. The house is absolutely beautiful and credit to the children – they were in the pool every day! The house is so well equipped and really nothing we could have wanted that wasn’t there. The open fire is delightful. On the last day we actually had lunch out on the garden so everyone left with lovely memories! We did say it would be lovely to see the house in different seasons and I’m sure you’ll be hearing from us again. In the meantime – have a good winter and hopefully be in touch in 2017 to arrange another visit.

Special interest holidays:

The house is very suitable for special interest holidays such as art courses and can be combined with our other nearby farmhouse La Germainiere which sleeps 12 and the local Hotel Auberge de L'Abbee 5 minutes drive.

Coast/Beach:

The beautiful unspoilt coast is a 15 minute drive from the house. Here you will find miles of stunning, uncrowded beaches. The warm shallow sea is ideal for swimming and the beaches perfect for sandcastles and beach combing. At Regneville sur Mer there is an attractive estuary where the locals fish for mullet and there are two restaurants serving sea food and other local specialities. At low tide watch the local farmers with their tractors miles away tending their oyster and mussel beds.

Travel:

La Germainiere is situated less than 1.5 hrs from the ferry ports of Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo with excellent services from Portsmouth and Poole with Brittany Ferries (discounts available). Alternatively, Le Havre is 2.5 hrs and Calais under 4 hrs drive. The nearest airport is Dinard/St Malo (1.5 hrs) with services from London Stansted (with connections across UK), Nottingham and Guernsey. Rennes and Caen are close and Paris is under 3 hrs. Villedieu station is 11km (direct to Paris).

Distances:

Hambye (3km) local village with 2 bakeries, butchers, post office, supermarket, hardware store and bar/ restaurant. Tuesday market day. Percy (4km) small town with all facilities. Gavray (7km) lovely little market town with banks, shops, bars, restaurants. Saturday is pannier market day and Wednesday the calf market - great fun for all the family. Villedieu (11km) larger town famous for its copper and bell foundry. Coast (Les Salines - 21km) - beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches. Cherbourg (96km).

Booking Notes:
A deposit of a third of the total cost of the holiday is payable when booking. The balance is due eight weeks before the start of the holiday. Arrivals are from 3.30 pm on the first day of the holiday and the house must be vacated by 10am on the last day. All prices are for one week inclusive of gas, electricity, water, logs,wifi, and free calls to European landlines.

Changeover day is Friday.

Notes on prices: We give 20% discount on Brittany Ferries crossings.
Linen is available to hire at £18 per person- which includes all bedlinen, 2 towels per person, bath mats, tea towels etc. Alternatively you are welcome to take your own linen, duvets and pillows are supplied.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The house has great character and is furnished and equipped to a very high standard with lots of old interesting pieces of furniture. The house, grounds and pool and all very suitable for children and the pool area is security fenced. This private heated pool is available between May and October. There are various games for children such as badminton and boules. There is WiFi internet access and free calls to European landlines. The house has full central heating (oil) and a huge Normandy fireplace and therefore it is beautiful in winter months for out of season holidays or celebrating Christmas and New Year. The house is non smoking and pets are accepted by arrangement. Outside: La Germainiere is situated in a tranquil rural setting amongst its own fields at the end of a half-mile private drive. The house is surrounded by beautiful mature gardens and lovely maintained lawns. The terrace is south facing and catches the sun all day. The magnificent private 10 x 5m heated pool is set on the lower lawns away from the house and has sun loungers, poolside furniture and a large pretty timber chalet situated next to the pool. It has a lockable security fence for peace of mind with children. The large poolside terrace is a real suntrap and has beautiful views over the valley. The caretakers come regularly to clean the pool. Utility Room: There are laundry facilities including a washing machine, tumble-drier and sink in the utility room. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Estelle the caretaker takes great pride in keeping the house really clean and cleans it thoroughly before each guest's arrival. Bedlinen and towels are available for hire (£18pp). The caretaker is happy to give extra help in the house if required. Other: There is a games room/utility area in the garage which includes a table tennis table.
