About the Owner

After 20 years in fashion, running and designing our own Brands from the cult "Have a Nice Day" shop in Notting Hill, my wife and I felt the next developing trend was Lifestyle and quality of life. London could not offer us the tranquility, climate or outside space we were looking for, so over a weekend in Provence, we decided to sell the shop and spent two years looking for our ideal mountain retreat, which ideally needed the following three criteria: Within walking distance of the ski slopes, a large garden and the sound of running water., preferably a stream, all of which we found in Chalet L'Aurelie, Villard Reculas, France. The perfect place to inspire our new and more natural life, out of the big smoke.

Amazing

This is the first review i have ever written. This property is stunning. The listing didn't do this place justice, it is beautiful. The owners are lovely people who had thought of everything. The response time from the owner was very quick and extremely helpful. The village and surrounding area is just amazing. I would recommend it to anyone.

Amazing Chalet in Villard Reculas

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the chalet for three nights (wish it was longer!) to be close to Alpe d'Huez for cycling purposes. It was a perfect distance away from Bourg d'Oisans- close enough to go into town, but far enough to have a quiet, peaceful stay without much interruption. The chalet itself was spacious for the four of us (could have easily added at least two more guests) with rooms upstairs and downstairs. All decor and appliances were up-to-date and of good quality. The Coopers were gracious hosts and it's obvious that they take much pride in the chalet and its maintenance. I would highly recommend this chalet to anyone and especially cyclists looking to ride around Alpe d'Huez. We hope to return and stay again!

We were a group of 5 cyclists taking part in the Marmotte bike event. The chalet and the hosts made it even more memorable with there hospitality and comfortable surroundings. The Chalet is in a beautiful location and the village and villagers are very friendly. We shall be back as we all really enjoyed our stay at Chalet L'Aurelie!!

Beautiful chalet! Lovely views! We loved it here:)

  • 5 of 5

Chalet L'Aurelie is very beautiful and we would definitely stay here again. The village has a couple of bars, a lovely little restaurant and a small shop + ski hire place. The village is nice and quiet but has easy access to lifts for other resorts too if you fancy a little change of scenery for the day. The views from here are amazing. The chalet itself has lovely furniture and is very beautiful inside. The beds are extremely comfortable and the fire is lovely at the end of a full day of skiing. We would definitely recommend Chalet L'Aurelie. Anthony was always available if we needed any help and is so friendly. We couldn't recommend it anymore - it's so lovely there.

Home from Home in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

The chalet has everything that you could need; from a log fire to a fondue set and combined with fantastic views of the mountain, makes it an idyllic holiday destination. Villard Reculas is a charming and picturesque village and is perfect for anyone who wants to avoid the hustle and bustle of the main resort of Alpe D’Huez but still wants easy access to the slopes. The main resort is only 15 minutes by car up the mountain and the whole ski area is easily accessible from the lifts in the village. Anthony and Sheilah were incredibly welcoming and helpful hosts offering advice on local restaurants and supermarkets and even provided us with music for the long drive home. We had a fantastic week and would definitely recommend Chalet L’Aurelie to anyone looking to spend a relaxing time in the mountains.

Location

From the Owner

Chalet L'Aurelie that sleeps 4- 6. Alpe d"Huez is also known as "The island in the sun!", as it is usually above the clouds and averages 300 days of sun per annum . Villard Reculas is a quiet, south facing village and has not been ruined by tourism and yet is part of a 240km ski domaine. Because of the altitude and snow cannons, it is a fantastic snow sure resort to spend a quiet and cosy winter holiday. In the summer..... the area transforms itself into a cycling haven, as a leg of the famous Tour de France, with the mythical 21 bend climb. And a fantastic base for the other events such as La Marmotte, the Mega avalanche, The EDF triathlon. There are also loads of walks to mountain refuges and lakes. Nearby facilities include swimming , tennis, squash, golf and horse riding. For the environmentally inclined, the water and heating is complimented by solar panels, and operational, even in the winter. In the summer we also collect the rainwater that runs the loos and washing machine. The drinking water is straight from the mountain and apart from a short UV treatment, has no added chemicals and is delicious!

Facilities

From the Owner

One often imagines the mountains are going to be full of charming old houses, that have retained their character and yet have all the modern comforts and amenities, from a boot warmer, to solar powered under floor heating and hot water. Well don't be disappointed by misleading photos, because that is what L'Aurelie, is all about, often described as a home from home! After a great day's skiing, to come home to a spacious, comfortable and warm house, with the flickering light of an open log fire and relaxing tranquility of an unspoiled authentic mountain village . In the summer, we have beautiful sunny days, but with cooler evenings, due to the altitude. We have a large south facing terrace for those long lazy days, when sometimes all you want is a good book and a BBQ!
