Apartment in Gabian, Nr. Pezenas, Languedoc Roussillon, France - On The Edge Of A Medieval Village With Shops And Bar/Restaurant

Our South of France 3* holiday apartment is in a peaceful, charming village, where the street names are in both the French and Occitan languages, adding to its charm. The village centre is an easy stroll from the apartment (5-10 mins) and there you will find two general stores, a boulangerie, a pharmacy and a bar/restaurant. The village is on the edge of the beautiful Haut Languedoc National Park, which is a wonderful place to walk or cycle and you will find it is an unspoilt area with a micro climate perfect for holidays May to September. Swimming lakes and rivers, canoeing, many beautiful villages, the town of Pezenas and of course, the lovely beaches of the Mediterranean are all easily accessible within a short drive. The area is full of beautiful walks for you to enjoy and many cycle routes for the slightly more energetic. The apartment is ideally placed to explore the area, or just to relax by the pool and soak up the Mediterranean sunshine (lots of books available!).

Large living/dining room overlooking private pool.

This is large (32.5 square metres) cool living room with 2 sofas, large dining table and chairs, coffee table and other furniture. There is English Freeview satellite TV and a DVD player, plenty of films, books and games and free WIFI Internet access. The kitchen area has fitted units, crockery, cutlery, etc., a fridge, separate freezer, washing machine, microwave, kettle, NESPRESSO coffee machine, small oven/grill and separate hob. There are double doors leading out on to the fenced pool area.

Double Bedroom

Good sized double bedroom with a lovely four poster bed, bedside tables, lamps, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, cheval mirror and a fan. This room overlooks the pool area and is a bright and sunny room with shutters at the windows to keep out the early morning sun if you feel like a lie in! Tiled floors and white walls add to the cool, clean simple feel of the room.

Twin Bedroom

The twin room is also white with blue curtaining at the window. There is a wardrobe and a bedside table between the beds with a bedside lamp. The floor is tiled, as the rest of the apartment and there is a fan for your comfort.

Shower Room

Fully tiled room, with an up to date shower cubicle with a large 'raindrop' shower head and a separate hand held shower head. There is also a basin and toilet.

Outside

Double doors from the living room lead to the private pool where you will find sun loungers to make the most of our micro climate, or find a shady spot if you prefer. The pool is 6.5 metres x 3.4 metres with a depth of 1.04 metres to 1.77 metres. It is fenced with gates in accordance with French law. Beyond the pool area, in the main garden there is an outside table and chairs in the shade for you to enjoy al fresco dining using the BBQ provided. There is a laundry drying area at the back of the house.

We love this area because of the climate - 300+ days of sunshine per year - and the lovely slow pace of life that means you have time to savour every minute of your time here. The property is situated within 5 minutes walk of the village centre with its shop, boulangerie and bar/restaurant. It is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful Haut Languedoc National Park, the Mediterranean coast and the wonderful Medieval villages to be found locally, of which Gabian is one.

Our lovely pool is for your use only and is ideal for children and grown ups alike to cool off.

We offer free WIFI for you to use with your own device.

Delicious, home cooked evening meals are available by arrangement (25 euros per person for 3 courses with wine, 15 euros per child under 12 years old) - please enquire when you make your booking, especially if you would like a nice dinner waiting for you on your day of arrival!

Many thanks for a very restful and relaxed holiday. We have loved being here and I know the children have made the most of the pool. Also thank you for your kind advice on local activities. We especially enjoyed Valras Plage and Pezenas on the Friday evening. Our only conclusion is that a week wasn't long enough, again many thanks.

Notes on accommodation: The private pool is for the exclusive use of the apartment guests and is furnished with loungers for lazing in the sun or drying off after a dip in the pool. The apartment floors are tiled throughout with lots of white walls making it a lovely, cool place to relax. There is free WIFI available for you to use with your own device. Both bedrooms and the living room are equipped with fans. The pool is fenced according to French law and you will have the key to the pool gates. There is off road parking on the drive with double, lockable gates. Very good 3* accommodation, accredited by Etoiles de France. Outside: Double doors from the living room lead to the lovely private pool where you will find sun loungers to make the most of our micro climate, or find a shady spot if you prefer. The pool is 6.5 metres x 3.4 metres with a depth of 1.04 metres to 1.77 metres. It is fenced with gates in accordance with French law. Beyond the pool area, there is an outside table and chairs to enjoy alfresco dining and a BBQ. There is a laundry drying area at the back of the house. In the main garden, there is a gazebo where you can enjoy lunch in the shade listening to the lovely local birdsong. Utility Room: No utility room, but a washing machine is provided in the kitchen and there is plenty of outside drying space. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels, incl beach towels, are included in the prices shown. The property is cleaned before and after your stay and the towels and linen are changed; mid stay linen/towel changes available at small extra charge. Wonderful holiday!

Just returned from our 3rd stay at this lovely apartment and cannot speak about it highly enough. Colin and Patsy offer the warmest of welcomes and will, if desired, cook a wonderful meal for you on arrival, which after any journey length is a treat.

The house itself has everything you need for a very comfortable stay and teenage children will be delighted with the provision of Wi-Fi and freeview tv. The pool and garden are beautiful, especially in the mornings, to enjoy coffee and the fresh croissants available a short walk away in the village.

Gabian itself is lovely for a wander. It has a general store and bakery, a chemist and bar restaurant. The supermarket is only a ten minute drive away in Roujan for stocking up.

There are so many things about the area we could recommend. The historic town of Pezenas is 20 mins away by car. It is wonderful for shopping and eating out and we spent many lovely evenings there. If you want atmosphere and a chance to sample local wines and produce the Friday night 'Estival' in the summer is ideal. A few euro provides you with a glass for sampling but don't feel this is adults only as there are plenty sweet treats available for little ones too and the street food on offer will suit any palate.

Lac de Salagou, Gorge D'Heric and the Barrage des Olivettes offer swimming and water sports if you want to leave the solace of the pool and all are an easy drive away. We recommend Marseillan for its port and beach-delicious tapas at the port and crystal clear water at the beach.

Your hosts Colin and Patsy are the added bonus. Often present but absolutely never intrusive. Patsys fluent French has helped with unexpected optician visits and booking this year's much needed emergency pedicure! And Colin gives the best and clearest directions that would outwit any Satnav. They will advise on trips and dining to suit your budget and circumstances and know many local germs we'd never have found otherwise. Whilst their availability and warmth is such a comfort, be assured your privacy and space is always respected and this was much appreciated.

For the very best the region has to offer and a home away from home, our family highly recommend this little gem to you.

Comfortable, well equipped, great location

This was our second stay at Patsy and Colin's lovely apartment, and we had another great holiday in Gabian. There's plenty of room for a family of 4; the apartment is clean, comfortable, well equipped and is a fantastic base for a holiday that combines some time by (and in) the pool with exploring what the region has to offer.

The owners, Patsy and Colin are very friendly and welcoming, and will help wherever they can, but are never intrusive.

We would happily recommend this property to friends and family, and I'm sure we'll make a return in the future.

Perfect Southern French retreat

My partner and I spent fantastic week in Colin and Patsy's apartment. They were great hosts and had the perfect balance between being available for us if we needed any local information and leaving us to relax in privacy. The apartment itself was very spacious, clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The pool area was a great addition and was a lovely outdoor space especially for a sunny breakfasts in the morning! The location was great as it was close enough to the village centre for a nice evening stroll and is surrounded by lots of local activities. The nearby vineyards and wineries are also worth a visit. Foodies will also enjoy the wealth of restaurants in the local area and Colin and Patsy are happy to recommend the best ones. We would certainly return and have recommended the apartment to family.

A quiet relaxing apartment

A warm welcome awaited us to this excellent apartment and the pool was an essential boon due to arriving in a heatwave.

It is located on the edge of a charming old village with a good boulangerie in easy walking distance. Lots of vineyards to visit as well as scenic drives or walking/cycling if one feels active although heat was too great for us to do much of this.We enjoyed our trips to Pezenas which is a beautiful old town nearby.

Colin and Julie are super hosts and nothing was too much trouble. They were able to recommend excellent restaurants and wine caves!

Many thanks to them for making our stay so memorable - we will return.

Fabulous apartment, owned by the friendliest and most helpful people, Patsy and Colin. A delicious meal greeted us on arrival and an incredibly relaxing week followed. Ideally positioned to explore the Languedoc region on the edge of a quiet village. Plenty to do, but lends itself to spending lazy days by the pool, too. Lac du Salagou is a must - a fantastic lake, great for swimming or watersports. The market at Clermont l'Herault is a treat on a Wednesday morning. Lovely holiday enjoyed by older teenagers too.

Coast/Beach:

Beautiful Mediterranean beaches are just a 25 minute drive away and include gorgeous long stretches of sandy beach and lovely lagoons perfect for the family. Many of the local beaches have water sports available and many have delightful beach cafes. There is a wonderful, unspoilt swimming lake a 10 minute drive from the property and the famous Lac du Salagou is a half hour drive.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Beziers (about 25 mins by car). Montpellier airport is just under an hours drive and Nimes, Carcassonne and Perpignan are about an hour and a half. You could even fly to Girona/Barcelona in northern Spain, about 2-2.5 hours drive from Gabian.

If you decide to drive down, it is about 11 hours from Calais.

Distances:

The apartment is situated on the very edge of Gabian and the village centre is a 5 minute leisurely stroll, where you will find a general store, a baker, and a bar/restaurant. Gabian is a medieval village 'circulade' full of heritage and there is a detailed historic circuit around the village which is very interesting. The fascinating historic town of Pezenas is a 15 minute drive and the town of Beziers - which hosts a fabulous Feria each summer - is only 25 minutes by car.

Further Details:

In the next village of Roujan (3 minute drive), you will find 2 butchers shops, general stores, tabacs, a bank with a cash point, bars and restaurants and a SuperU supermarket with its own butcher and fishmonger. Mobile shops are in the square of Gabian several days per week, including a butcher, fishmonger, grocer and on Thursdays and Saturdays, the fabulous Pizza Van!. The historic town of Pezenas is a short drive and apart from the architecture, links with Moliere and other things of historical interest, there are supermarkets, restaurants, the night market and Saturday market. We can recommend the canoeing from Roquebrun followed by a leisurely lunch at 'Le Petit Nice' overlooking the River Orb. Or spend the day at 'Les Gorges d'Heric' and picnic by one of the many natural pools up and down the gorge. You could walk or cycle along the Canal du Midi or amongst the lovely hills of the Haut Languedoc National Park. There are walks and cycle rides directly from the door of the apartment if you don't want to drive. Perhaps you would rather just spend the day by your private pool, or at one of the beautiful beaches nearby. There really is something for everyone in this lovely area of southern France.

Booking Notes:
Please send us an email or telephone if you would like to book, or if you would like more information about the property or the area.
We require a 20% deposit to secure your booking with the balance due 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. This can be paid by PayPal.
We also require a security/damages deposit of £200 at this time, which will be returned to you after a satisfactory inspection of the property which will take place just before your departure.

Changeover Day:
The apartment is available from 4pm on the day of arrival and we ask you to vacate the property by 10am on the day of departure. During July and August, changeover day is Saturday but we can offer some flexibility at other times.

Notes on prices:
Prices quoted are in sterling for the whole apartment (not per person). We accept sterling and euro payments. You can pay by bank transfer or PayPal.

Prices shown are for the 2 bed apartment, For whole house bookings between 8th and 29th August, 2 weeks minimum booking at £1,500 per week.
