The contemporary 3 bedroom bungalow is set on the edge of a small hamlet with a magnificent view of the rolling hills of the Dordogne valley. The bungalow enjoys total privacy. The large garden with its sun-drenched patio and shaded terrace is ideal for lazy dining and relaxation. The large swimming pool faces south with garden furniture for secluded sunbathing. The property is set on gently rising ground in the midst of fields and woods at the end of a single track country lane. There is no traffic to disturb the peace. There are many woodland walks to be had from directly outside the back door. Waking up to the unspoilt sound of tranquility and to the mist swirling in the valley below is truly a delight.

We all loved your house. Very easy to maintain, nicely furnished, and with great views. Your booklet of information was good, and it was nice to have lots of leaflets of places to go. We made good use of your bikes to go to the boulangerie. We would certainly consider renting your house again, if available.



We really enjoyed our holiday and found the views from the property

even more impressive than the photos led us to believe. We were very

fortunate with the weather (40C+) and were pleased that we had booked a

place with a pool to cool off. Overall, a lovely, relaxing place that is competitively priced. We would highly recommended it to anyone.

Wonderful!!!

We had a wonderful holiday - the cottage is perfect, fully equipped and spotlessly clean.

The swimming pool is large, very well kept and a fantastic place to cool off!

Views from the swing in the garden are breathtaking especially early in the morning.

There are lots of places to visit in the area that are all very close by - caves, monkey forest, tree climbing to name but a few!

We enjoyed lovely meals out at St Sozy and Martell, again both close by.

Thank you Jo and Graham for a wonderful, relaxing holiday.

We would not hesitate to recommend Plum Cottage and would love to return!!

Nice house, beautiful garden and swimming pool, perfect location and incredible views.

This is a very interesting area, very close to the river Dordogne an the villages near by are beautiful although not full of tourists. The house is comfortable and the owners very helpfull all the time. Lovely holiday!

Perfect vacation for family with kids

A perfect location for a great vacation! A lovely and quiet place. We enjoyed the mix of sightseeing and activities in the area as well as just relaxing around the pool and watching the kids transforming to frogs. We can only recommend this place, as long as you book after us.... :)

Superb!

We had a superb stay. The kids loved the pool and all the things around to do...especially the dinosaur park! It was peace and tranquility, when the children were not screaming with delight! Overall I cannot recommend plum tree cottage enough, or indeed, the area! There are so many things to do for all the family. The scenery is truly stunning, with its quaint, historic villages, hills and forests and the meandering Dordogne river. There are a number of great restaurants where you can sample specialities of the area. The kids loved the high ropes adventure park and kayaking on the river. Definitely coming again!

The epitome of tranquility!

It is now a little over a month since we returned from Mayrac and still my mind wanders back to the tranquil beauty of this area of France. It had been a little over twelve years since I was last in France, I cannot understand why I had left it so long for my return! We arrived at Plum Tree Cottage on the afternoon of 11th July and during a heatwave, upon arrival it was universally agreed that the house and pool were absolutely perfect and no time was wasted in getting unpacked and into the pool! The house has everything we needed (and now a cheese grater too!), for shopping there are many supermarches in nearby Souillac, but for me LeClerc is the best. The view from the front door is literally for miles, but the view from the lane at the other side, over Saint Sozy & Meyronne simply took my breath away! Although the weather was very hot and this limited our time away from the pool, we still managed to visit many of the local attractions such as Martel, Rocamadour, Padirac and the very beautiful Sarlat. The village of Saint-Sozy is very pretty and also has your breakfast Croissants as well as a nice restaurant. Just over the Dordogne is Meyronne, this is village visible from the top of the hill. All in all a fabulous week in a lovely property. I hope to return to this area as soon as possible and would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday. We fell in love with our cottage on first sight, we quite particularly love its location. We still cant believe our luck when we sit outside in the early morning and take in the stunning views and the sound of perfect peace! We love this area of France for its Frenchness! It is so quaint and full of interest, there is so much to see and do and the perfect tranquility helps us to unwind completely from our otherwise busy lives! The neighbours (the few there are) are very friendly. The cottage is easy to access being near the motorway link (7 mins) and the nearby town of Souillac (with its rail link) also, the recently opened Brive airport means access is amazingly simple!

Nearest Airport : Brive,Limoges or Bergerac at 45 Miles Nearest Barpub : St Sozy at 2 Miles Nearest Ferry : Calais at 500 Miles Nearest Golf : Souillac at 6 Miles Nearest Train : Souillac at 6 Miles Nearest Motorway : A20 at 5 Miles Nearest Restaurant : St Sozy at 2 Miles Car: necessary

This area, with its wealth of breath-taking scenery, is very popular with walkers,cyclists and families. There are many river beaches lining the nearby Dordogne river ( just a ten minute drive away from the property) where you can paddle, swim, fish or canoe/kayak. This area has a huge number of visitors attractions including castles, beautiful gardens,museums, animal sanctuaries and quaint villages. Just 20 minutes from the house is the stunning, historical village of Rocamadour ( the second most visited site of interest in France.)

For children there are many things to do and visit, for example; a water park, 2 zoos, an aquarium,a high-ropes adventure park, mini-golf, a dinosaur park, a monkey sanctuary, reptile land etc.

Travel:

Brive - Vallee de Dordogne airport 15kms/20 mins with CItyjet flights from London/Paris, Edinburgh and Dublin. Limoges approx 110km/80 mins Ryanair, Flybe. Rodez Airport approx 120km/1 hour 45. Ryanair. Bergerac Airport approx 130km/1 hour 40 Ryanair/Flybe. Toulouse approx 210km/2 hours Easyjet/ Jet2com/ Aer Lingus. A car is essential. All airports have car hire facilities. alais/Boulogne approx 9 hours drive. Brive railway station approx 22km where there is car hire available. Motorail too.

Distances:

The hamlet is a 5 minute walk from the nearest village . 5km to the village of St Sozy (nearest baker and small supermarket, restaurants and cafes and access to Dordogne river). 10 mins drive to the town of Souillac with its large supermarkets, restaurants, bakers, markets, banks etc. 10 mins drive to the historic village of Martel, 20 mins to Rocamadour (second most visited village in France) 20 mins to nearest airport (Brive).

Further Details:

St Sozy (6 minutes by car) has a small supermarket, bakery, a paper shop, a gift shop and restaurants. There is a well-known restaurant just outside of St Sozy in the village of Meyronne. Martel and Souillac( 10 mins) have more comprehensive shopping facilities including large supermarkets, banks, cash points and weekly markets. Brive is the largest town and has 2 markets a week and great shopping. The food in the area is a culinary delight, it’s the heart of foie gras and truffle region, with some amazing Michelin starred restaurants in stunning settings. The area is steeped in history with its many traditional French villages, castles and towns. The famous hillside village of Rocamadour can be easily reached in 25 mins, as can the well-known town of Sarlat. The beaches of the Dordogne are just 6 mins from the villa from where you can hire a kayak/canoe to meander down the river taking in the breath-taking views. La Cave and Padriac caves make for a very interesting day out. The markets at Brive, Sarlat and Cahors are bustling. A boat trip, or for the more energetic, a day's canoeing on the Dordogne, are ideal ways to view the sights of La Roque Gageac and the chateaux of Montfort, Beynac and Castlenaud. Family attractions include a steam train ride and Reptileland at Martel, Eagle and Monkey sanctuaries near Rocamadour and minigolf and horseriding at Souillac. Quercyland, a waterpark at Souillac 10km away, has 7 swimming pools, 3 water slides, go-kart area and paddle boats.

Our property is not overlooked and, being at the end of a single track country road overlooking the valley, traffic of any type is impossible to hear. The only sound in the garden is the sound of the red squirrels cracking their nuts and the woodpeckers. Although the cottage is set in peaceful countryside it is only 5 mins to a village with all amenities and 10 mins to the main town. So you really can have it all!!!

  • Notes on accommodation: We have good internet access, great games and three bikes to use to make your stay even more enjoyable. The fans in our cottage are free standing. Outside: The property is set in an enclosed, private garden of 1/4 of an acre. It has a 10x5m pool which is fully compliant with French safety regulations. The patio has a good quality dining set with parasol from where you can enjoy stunning, far-reaching views over the Lot valley or watch the swallows swoop around you over the pool.There are sunloungers round the pool and a large bbq. There is a big shed which houses a number of inflatables and outdoor games for your enjoyment( also 3 bicycles). To the rear of the property is a 3 seater swing seat, where you can sip your coffee and watch the morning mist in the valley below; it's really something to behold! From the property you are within woodland in 2 minutes and in the small village of Mayrac within 5 mins on foot. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels included ( please bring your own pool towels). Villa will be cleaned for your arrival, please leave it as you find it. Other: Our fans are all freestanding but still provide great comfort and circulation during your stay.
