West Soar is a Luxury 5 Bedroom, sea facing self catering holiday home, at Soar Mill Cove, near Salcombe

This Luxury AA 5 Star seaside house has 5 bedrooms, sleeping up to 10 guests. Direct access to The National Trust countryside, South West Coast path and Soar Mill Cove, a beautiful Sandy Beach.

As it is owned by the Makepeace family, guests at West Soar can also use the extensive leisure facilities of the family's neighbouring 4 Star Soar Mill Cove Hotel. This includes free use of the Salt Water swimming pool and seasonal Lawn Tennis amongst other.

Guests uniquely enjoy access to the hotel restaurant, lounge, coffee shop and bar. When dining for breakfast and dinner guests of West Soar benefit from a 10% discount.

Soar Mill Cove is accessed through a meadow below the house and is dog friendly as is the house, with its own family friendly extensive gardens and sea facing patio.

(Please note the hotel is closed in from January until Valentines weekend in February).

About the Owner

Keith & Jenny have lived at Soar Mill Cove for over 13 years and run their families luxury Soar Mill Cove Hotel. Soar Mill Cove is still their home as they have recently moved into their barn conversion next door. West Soar was new to market in 2011 & Ocean View One & Two will be complete for February half term & Valentines 2012, however as demand is so high in this amazing sea view setting bookings are now open.

As we live next door with our family of 13y, 16y and 19y we are on hand to ensure your most relaxed holiday. As a chef & keen coastal runner Keith is delighted to share with you tips and suggestions to get the very most out of your holiday. Jenny will show you where you can take the best photos of our sunsets

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at West Soar House, and would like to convey our thanks for having such a great place to stay as a family of 9 in total, in such space with many facilities.

Please pass on our kind appreciation for the great staff you have. We enjoyed their friendliness and their ways of making our stay both in the hotel and in the house so pleasurable.

The cream tea on arrival at the hotel was a nice surprise, and the similar provisions in the house together with the jam marmalade and wines when we moved in.

Our grandson was thrilled with having the top bunk bed, and all our family enjoyed the table tennis and table football games, and the many TVs around the house. The degree of comfort in the house is very high, and the gas barbecue is superb.

A couple of observations;

- we didn’t find the recycle bags (other than black ones) until late on in our stay. We felt very guilty putting glass bottles into black bags. In hind sight we should have asked earlier, but it would have been useful for some guidance on this from the staff at the start of our stay in the house.

- the set of kitchen knives need sharpening.

In summary; we had a great holiday, in a great place, with great people in your team.

When my parents retired we were delighted to buy the family home overlooking the most beautiful view in Devon and my childhood haunt Soar Mill Cove. Soar Mill Cove has given me the most magical childhood and has since given my children an equally idyllic base for their upbringing. Living here is the perfect antidote to life's every day stresses and strains. All you have to do to put life into perspective is to watch the waves crash in on the rocks and soon nothing trivial really matters.

Direct access to 2000 acres of national trust countryside, walkers and ramblers direct access to south west coast path boady boards in the shed foc for guest to use at our golden sandy beach with crab lines and fishing nets, buckets and spades for sand castles mountain bikes foc. swimming at the cove or in the indoor pool at hotel foc.


Nearest restaurant and coffee shop next door. Pub 2 miles Malborough

Shop and Garage and Post Office Malborough 2 miles. Church 2 miles Malborough C of E. Malborough Village 2 miles. Salcombe Harbour Town, beauty spot, further beaches and Town 5 miles. Boat Launching Salcombe 5 miles or Hope Cove 4 miles. Dartmouth Famous Town and Harbour 15 miles.

Further Details:

Salcombe is a beautiful harbour town famed for sailing and with a diverse selection of restaurants and independent restaurants bars and cafes. It has ferries, hirer boats a sailing school, and a yacht club. Our guests enjoy to dip theri toes here and then scuttle back to the unspoilt tranquility of West Soar and the beauty of our sandy cove.

Wooden boats can still be seen made in Salcombe. Soar Mill Cove and West Soar are completely surrounded by 2000 acres of National Trust rolling countryside which leads to Overbecks National Trust House and sub tropical Gardens. Kingsbridge is our nearby market town with the usual choice of banks, supermarkets as well as independent food heroes with a fish monger, butchers and grocers as well as independent clothes chops and art galleries etc.

For me of course it means my commute to work is a 2 minute stroll.

  • Notes on accommodation: Well behaved dogs are welcome, by arrangement (£100 additional damage deposit), but are not allowed upstairs. The beach is open to dogs all year round. Outside: 1 acre of sagacious fenced garden and large sea facing patio. Car Parking for 2 cars. Hot Tub operating between Easter and September at other times £50 per week to heat. As the hotel is owned by the Makepeace family who own neighboring Soar Mill Cove Hotel guests are welcome to use all of the hotels leisure facilities including a small heated indoor pool, lawn tennis court (Easter to September), Pitch and Putt as well as a 10% discount on all dining at their 2 rosette restaurant as well as their bar etc. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board, door to patio. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Weekly maid service and linen. All linen and towels provided. Additional maid service for £100 when required, available everyday on request. Additional midweek towel change for £50 per day.
