Spacious Holiday Home with Private Garden and Log Burning Stove in Peak District

Updated: 20-Oct-2016
The Wriggly Tin in Millers Dale, Nr. Bakewell, Derbyshire, England - Fantastic Views and Ideal Location for Perfect Countryside Holiday

The Wriggly Tin is situated in the beautiful valley of Millers Dale, a stunning area of Derbyshire, with the river Wye running through limestone hills. This quirky holiday home offers luxury accommodation, it was originally built in the mid 1800's along with the now disused railway, it has been meticulously rebuilt to a high standard and offers pure quality and comfort. The living accommodation is surprisingly spacious with vaulted ceilings, stone flagged and oak wood flooring all with underfloor heating, and there is an open log burning stove to warm you after cold winter walks. We offer Sky+ digital television, CD and DVD players and free wi-fi access. Outside there are beautifully maintained private gardens with patios and BBQ areas for you to relax in. We like to welcome all our guests with homemade flapjack and chocolate and we also supply some tea, coffee, sugar, fresh milk and fruit juice to refresh you after your journey.

About the Owner

We are Peter & Karen Barlow and we live next door to the Wriggly Tin, we have lived in Millers Dale since 1992, both our children have been born here. We only moved from neighbouring Cheshire and have always felt that the Peak District was part of home. We fell in love with the Wriggly Tin when we very first saw it, a very sorry state it was, and we have devoted our time to rebuild and lovingly improve it. Millers Dale is a wonderful place to live and we have been very happy here.

Great cottage, great location & stunning scenery. Had a wonderful week exploring the various caverns and breath taking walks, which were made even better when returning to Wriggly Tin which has everything you could wish for. Hope to come back again. Thanks for a great week. - John, Rachel, Bryony & Oliver - Devizes

We have really enjoyed a very relaxing week here at the Wriggly Tin. Plenty to do & lovely scenic walks to take. We have enjoyed several bar-b-ques and lovely pub meals at the 'Anglers Rest'. Thanks to Karen & Peter for their warm hospitality, the welcome pack of flapjack & chocolate amoungst other things was a delight! - The Walker Family - Ilkeston

Coming from London - the Wriggly Tin and its environs have been a constant delight: the peace and quiet; the enormous number of stars in the sky; the outstanding countryside. Superb accommodation. Great showers! - The Hutchinson Family - London

Wonderful house in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent an idyllic week at the Wriggly Tin in early July. It would be hard to find a more perfect place. The house is very spacious, with a wonderful large kitchen and dining room area with great views, a comfortable living room with a big-screen TV (free movies!), four bedrooms, and 4-1/2 baths. Everything is modern, immaculate, and decorated with real taste.

Karen and Peter go out of their way to provide for their guests. This starts with the welcome package of a giant chocolate bar, home-made flapjacks, supplies of coffee and tea, milk in the refrigerator, and fresh flowers. There are extra washcloths, towels, and tissues in every room. The chairs, beds and sofas are all very comfortable. There's remarkable attention to detail everywhere; as a tiny example, there are easily accessible electrical outlets everywhere so one doesn't have to crawl under the furniture to plug things in.

The Monsal Trail is literally across the road, with easy walking in both directions. There's a lot of beautiful scenery nearby, of course. Our favorite spot was Peveril Castle, which we visited on a perfect day, but Chatsworth is close, and Ashbourne and Bakewell are both fun to wander around.

We've stayed in a fair number of self-catering places over the years. By a significant margin, the Wriggly Tin is the best we've encountered.

This is a fantastic property. We were thrilled to be welcomed with flapjack and chocolate; the property was easy to find and exactly as described. It was spotlessly clean and quirky and beautiful. The view of the garden from the double room I bagged was amazing and it was such a joy to wake up to such a lovely view. Having lots of bathrooms/shower rooms made the property great for a group, and we loved our evenings sitting around a real fire. The rural setting allowed us to have a totally relaxing weekend. Thank you.

Fab place, can't rate it high enough!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing weekend at The Wriggly Tin.

The house is lovely with such attention to detail. It was immaculately clean and the 4 showers were such a bonus.

Little things like flapjacks, milk etc on arrival and tissues, dishwasher tablets all there for us made it even better.

Karen went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed and to help prepare for our arrival - even taking in a shopping delivery for us and putting it away.

Location is amazing, so quiet and walks on the doorstep but close enough to shops for the essentials.

Can't rate it high enough and I really hope to return.

Many thanks Karen and Peter.
