Turnstones enjoys a fabulous position high above Boscastle Harbour, and has one of the most dramatic views in North Cornwall. This traditional cottage has been lovingly restored and modernised in sympathy with its age and history. It has many original features including stripped wooden floors and a wood burning stove. With four bedrooms, a sitting room, separate dining room, kitchen, bathroom, additional shower/WC and utility room - plus parking for two cars - Turnstones is perfect for families or small groups of friends. The cottage comfortably accommodates up to seven plus a baby. Step outside and you are on the coastal path, making this an idyllic location for walkers, bird watchers and artists. A two minute walk takes you into Boscastle village, with its many shops, cafes and pubs. Some of North Cornwall's most dramatic beaches and coves are a short drive away, as are the attractions of Padstow, Rock and Bodmin Moor.

Best location in Boscastle!

Boscastle is such a special little village, so friendly & welcoming and the location of Turnstones cottage is simply amazing. Situated almost at the end of the harbour, one of the highlights was the secluded little terrace overlooking the water where we could watch all the comings and goings. We had an amazing week of beautiful weather and walked every day in every direction! The walking is great for the serious hiker but there are shorter walks for those just looking to get out for an hour or to take a spot on the rocks at the harbour mouth to watch the blowhole at low tide!

We arranged a supermarket delivery shortly after our arrival and then "topped up" with essentials at the local bakery and village stores, so hardly needed to venture out in the car. There are several good pubs and eating places, all of which offer excellent food, much of it locally sourced and delicious!

The cottage has everything you need and really feels like a home rather than a holiday let - a few passers-by said how lucky we were to live there and I must admit sometimes we didn't correct them!! It is tastefully decorated and the owners have retained lots of character with beautiful exposed beams and wooden floorboards. Although we had great weather and spent a lot of time outdoors I can imagine that the cottage would be extremely cosy in cooler months and would happily return at any time of the year.

Can't wait to return and would recommend to those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life - don't expect much mobile phone signal if any, but that was absolute bliss!!

Having visited various places in Devon and Cornwall over a number of years, we found we kept coming back to Boscastle. It really is a stunningly beautiful place and Turnstones sits in one of the most magical locations. We love the walks and the drama of the coastline. However, you are never far from a pub, restaurant or shop which means it is possible to spend a week without venturing out in the car. Our children adore the beaches of course. There are so many that we still haven't discovered them all. And all this within 4.5 hours drive from London!

Nearest Airport : Newquay at 30 Miles Nearest Barpub : Cobweb Inn at 250 Metres Nearest Train : Bodmin Parkway at 20 Miles Nearest Motorway : A39 at 5 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Harbour Light at 50 Metres Nearest Beach : Bossiney at 3 Miles Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The cottage is on the coast overlooking the inlet of Boscastle Harbour. 3 minute walk to the cliffs overlooking the sea.

10 minute drive to the nearest beach at Bossiney (accessible via steep path, no facilities.)

15 minute drive to Crackington Haven (car park, cafes, swimming and surfing).

20 minute drive north to the broad sandy beach of Widemouth Bay (a mecca for surfers), or south to the beautiful cove of Trebarwith Strand (car park, cafes, swimming and surfing).

Travel:

A car is desirable as much of the North Cornish coast is not served by trains or main bus routes.

A coastal bus runs at least once an hour in each direction north and south from Boscastle.

Newquay Airport (flights to/from London Gatwick, 60 minutes) is a 50 minute drive away. Taxis available.

The nearest train station is Bodmin Parkway, a 45 minute drive away. Taxis available.

Distances:

1 minute walk to the South West Coastal path.

3 minute walk into the centre of Boscastle.

10 minute drive or beautiful 2.5 hour coastal walk to the historic town of Tintagel.

The bustling towns of Padstow, Wadebridge and Bude are all within a 40 minute drive.

Further Details:

Boscastle is well served by three pubs, and several other restaurants and cafes. WiFi is available at many bars and cafes.

There is a bakers, a Spar supermarket/newsagent and well stocked general store/post office, open daily. The garage is also open daily. The NatWest mobile bank visits once a week on Thursday afternoon.

Further afield both Bude and Wadebridge have large supermarkets, High St banks and other facilities.

Boscastle has plenty of attractions on the doorstep including the Museum of Witchcraft and Boscastle Pottery specialising in Mocha ware.

There are several fine walks for all levels of fitness including the famous South West Coastal Path and the flat inland walk through Valency Valley.

There is an outdoor swimming pool on the beach at Bude and indoor leisure pools in Bude, Camelford and Wadebridge.

It is a short trip to the Camel Trail, a cycle trail suitable for the whole family.

The drama of Bodmin Moor and the historic town of Bodmin with its steam railway are less than 30 minutes by car.

Trendy Padstow and Rock can be reached in 40 minutes.

Thanks to the proximity of the Atlantic Highway (A39) the attractions of the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are less than an hour away.

For all weather attractions, there is Crealy Adventure Theme Park and Trethorne Leisure Park.

  • Notes on accommodation: There is a parking space at the front of the cottage for one large car or two small/medium cars. There is an additional space in the car port to the rear although this is only suitable for a small/medium vehicle due to the tight turning space. A third car must be parked in the village car park. Outside: Delightful secluded terrace overlooking Boscastle harbour. The terrace has a tables and chairs, plus two comfortable loungers. Note - the terrace is fenced but young children should be supervised. Utility Room: Additional fridge with freezer compartment. Washing machine. Ironing board and iron. Indoor clothes airer. Sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned before each new rental. Linen and towels supplied. Please bring your own beach towels.
