About Homewood Family

We had been holidaying here with our family since 2004 and decided to have our own villa built (which was completed in 2010), designing it just as we would want, making it a really comfortable spacious and relaxing 'home from home' (except with better weather and views!). We love the local area; there is so much to see and do, everyone is very friendly, making you feel 'at home' the minute you arrive. Even if it's just the two of us, we never feel we are 'rattling around' and love that moment when we return and first put the key back in the door!

Homewood Family purchased this villa in 2010

Why Homewood Family chose Obidos

It is such a pretty area and remarkably still so rural and unspoilt. Even during high season, the beaches are relatively quiet and not at all crowded. Nearby, the old spa market town of Caldas da Rainha is not geared up to tourists and very much the typical local centre, although there are also supermarkets and all the activities at the beach, sailing club, bowling, cinema, karting, historic sites well within very easy reach. We love being able to look out over the valleys, the sea and the castle with hardly an interruption to the view, as well as just wandering about the orchards. It's a real tonic and leaves us all feeling totally relaxed and refreshed.

What makes this villa unique

The villa benefits from Geo-thermal heating and hot water so we have low running costs all year round. This allows us to offer a very competitive rate for the winter season and offers guests underfloor heating as well as a cosy log fire and double glazing, keeping you comfortable whatever the weather!

A spacious relaxing and tranquil villa.

  • 5 of 5

The villa has a very comfortable, large open plan living room and kitchen area which opens out immediately onto the patio and swimming pool which has a barbeque, sun loungers, and stunning views of Obidos and its lagoon. We found this very relaxing after a busy day sightseeing and exploring the stunning local area. ( We even used the games room without having any children)

We particularly enjoyed a local wine tasting recommended by the owners.

The rest of the accommodation was just as listed, exceptionally clean, tidy and beautifully furnished. There was a useful book with information about the villa and all its appliances. Up to date information about the area such as places to eat, local sights and events etc.

All the bedrooms were a good size with more than adequate bathrooms. We slept very well for the whole stay.

We tried a number of the local restaurants which we found to be warm and friendly offering great food at good value for money.

The villa is in a perfect location for seeing this area of Portugal. The lovely cultural walled town of Obidos, the sea at Foz de Arelho, amenities and other cultural sites at Caldas de Rainha including the local market and of course Lisbon itself.

Overall I would not hesitate to recommend this villa to all my friends and relatives.

Recent stay at villa Casa Dos Pomares

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a lovely, enjoyable and relaxing week at the villa.

Everybody who stayed at the villa, felt the photos on the website do not do the villa justice.

The views from the garden over to the lagoon and castle are spectacular, especially with the early morning mist, which made it look very eerie.

Obidos was very popular, three of the party attempted to walk the castle walls , but gave up on health and safety grounds.

We spent a great day sightseeing in Lisbon, great fun was had by all being driven by tuktuk around the sites.Trying to get back to the bus station in the evening via taxi was slightly difficult , as there was a football match on at the stadium.

O Tracadinho is certainly a gem, very friendly and the food well presented- we went there twice in a week and even came away with two jars of their chutney..We certainly will return to the area again

Every bit as good as it looked in the photos

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely, spacious and well-equipped villa in a beautiful location, set high beside an orchard on a hill overlooking the delightful old town of Obidos, and with a view out to the lagoon and the sea beyond. We found lots of lovely places to see and experience within a 25mile radius, including stunning sandy beaches with hypnotic Atlantic waves to watch, peaceful walks beside the lagoon, a boat trip to the local island of Berlenga, the unusual salt pans near Rio Maior, and the sight and smell of traditional racks of fish drying on the beach at Navare. All in all the villa provided an ideal base to explore this beautiful part of Portugal. We would highly recommend it.

A+ location & villa, owner a pleasure to deal with

  • 5 of 5

The villa is lovely - perfect location for Obidos, beaches, the supermarket (!),and the roads north and south.

We ate at Nova Casa de Romiro, which was a delicious meal in enchanting surroundings. However, O Tracadinho surpassed it - it is a real gem and being within easy walking distance is a bonus. Try the seared tuna with dill dressing - fantastic!

There was a breeze most days whilst we were here, which was nice because it was from the north and kept us cool - the area round the front of the villa offered perfect shelter when needed.

Praia do Rio Cortico is easy to get to and thoroughly recommended.

The pool was warm throughout our stay, and the children loved it. The adults loved the table-tennis, even if it got a bit competitive!

The owner is really helpful and provided loads of extra information, contributing to making it a fantastic holiday.

Great house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely family villa overlooking the town of Obidos and with distant views of the lagoon. We were only 5 but the villa has plenty of space for 8 people. It's well located with loads to do in the local area. We loved the surf beaches (Baleal and Foz) and the other expansive deserted beaches on the silver coast. We also explored the lagoon (south side is beautiful) and enjoyed Obidos. We also found some great places to eat. The children enjoyed the games room and pool (definitely the main attraction for summer visitors!). We would love to return in the summer months. The owners are very helpful and go out of their way to give you information to help you make the most of your holiday.
