About M Shuttleworth

Over the years we have visited most areas of France and decided this was by far our favourite There are so many places to visit and things to do, the list is endless. The culture, the climate and the people are all fantastic. Dramatic scenery beautiful quaint villages and Historic towns. Its also about as far South and as close to the sun as you can drive in one day!

Our house although recently constructed was designed to be in keeping with the regional style Lotoise and includes the traditional Pigeonnier (a small tower) which has a great view over the garden and swimming pool. The house being modern provides many luxuries and comforts to help you enjoy your stay.

M Shuttleworth purchased this house in 2005

Why M Shuttleworth chose Lot

We bought the plot of land in 2005 & immediately commissioned the construction of the house which was completed in 2007.

We have been visiting the area for many years and love all that it has to offer. There are so many things to do, see, eat, drink....

The house has a totally rural outlook yet it is only 2 minutes walk from the centre of the village, where two Hotels with superb restaurant's and bars can be found.

The village is in the middle of a national park and has magnificent views in all directions.

What makes this house unique

Our closest attraction is the medieval village of Rocamadour which is only 6Kms as the crow flies. The village and Monastery built on the side of a gorge is absolutely stunning day and night. We are only 3kms from the dordogne river where you will find numerous canoeing activities. There are also two Michelin Star restaurants within 3 Kms. The Chateau de la Treyne on the banks of the dordogne and Le Pont L'ouysse which is located on a small tributary feeding the Dordogne. We are also close to the Medieval town of Sarlat, village of Domme perched on a cliff over looking the Dordogne.

In the village there is a Pony Treking centre. There are gorge walks, an adventure park, Eagle Sanctuary, Padirac under ground river within a short drive.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Marc & Deborah, we have had 2 wonderful weeks in your lovely home, so well equipped & comfortable. The area is stunning with so many things to see and do. Thank you for sharing it with us. Tony Gel & Betty"

" Beautiful villa, weather has been amazing, 44 deg.C on Monday! Recommend Sarlat for market day on Wednesday, Rocamadour & Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. Will miss the view each morning whilst having breakfast. Lyn and Martin, Essex."

"We have had a lovely, relaxing holiday in your beautiful house. The children especially loved the pool. Rocamadour was a super day out and the caves at Lacave and Gourdon well worth a visit. Many lovely hamlets a villages around. The gardens at Manoir d'Eyrignac were worth a 45 minute drive. If you haven't been to Sarlat, Castlenaud, Beynac they are all beautiful places to visit. Thank you for the use of your house, which is the best equipped yet. Lesley & Andrew Fife Scotland."

Lovely quiet village and location. Beautiful scenery and sunsets from the back garden. A visit to Rocamador and the underground river in Padirac is a must.

Stunning villa with the most amazing views

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week in this amazing, comfortable, well equipped villa. The pool was fantastic for cooling off on a hot day. The views were stunning as were the sunsets and the stars at night. A great villa in a great area to explore and enjoy the joys of the Dordogne river. I would highly recommend!

We had a fantastic stay over 7 days this summer. The house is immaculate and stayed very cool even when the temperature was pushing 40 degrees outside. The pool was clean and warmed up nicely with the solar panels; all of us enjoyed the opportunity to cool off a bit! The views are great and the terrace area was lovely to sit out in during the evening and watch the sun go down.

The location of the property is excellent though you definitely need a car to get around. Cales is a peaceful, friendly village and you're only around 6km from the stunning town of Rocamadour. There are also shops and facilities a short drive away at various local towns.

Communication with Marc was great and he returned our deposit before we'd even got back to the UK! All in all, a fantastic holiday and highly recommended holiday home to visit.

Booked as a reunion holiday with friends from America. Couldnt have asked for more, the lovely well equipped open plan kitchen diner lounge is perfect for entertaining and socialising, great pool and space for the kids to play, all in view of the main lounge so safe. Bedrooms comfy and showers hot. Peaceful relaxing setting with gorgeous sunsets, yet set in a picturesque village with nice walks and a couple of restaurants. Short drive to the supermarket but plenty of room in fridge and freezer to stock up. So much do do in the surrounding area, amazing caves, monkey sanctuary, chateaus, caneing, ancient villages . The area is great and the house like home. We will definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Séjour agréable dans une belle maison et dans une belle région

  • 4 of 5

Owner's Response: Dear Catherine, thank you for your review we are pleased you had a good time. We take onboard your comments. I will try and address the TV channels as soon as possible, however this has not been a problem before as the house has only been advertised on English speaking websites, I was unaware that the house was on also listed on a French Site, but I understand your dilemma. The electric sunshade would be a good idea and something we have considered, however there is a parasol available which was located in the garage. With regard to the cafetière, I believe we have two in the kitchen, maybe not the kind you are familiar with however I will make sure the house keeper puts them somewhere obvious in future and we will buy a typical french cafetière to compliment the already well equipped kitchen.
