About the property

Apartment in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK - Within Tenby Town Walls 2 Minutes Walk From The Beach, Shops And Restaurants

We have owned this apartment since 2004 and have enjoyed all our family holidays here since. It is our favourite place to be all year round! Arranged across two floors, the hallway leads to 2 bedrooms and the main bathroom. Ahead there is a large bright living/ dining/ kitchen room where you can relax, eat and spend time gazing at the comings and goings in the harbour and pace your day with the changing tide. Upstairs is bedroom three with en suite shower room. The apartment has a light, fresh feeling, recently refurbished with modern fittings and furniture. It is well equipped for cooking at home, has a selection of books and DVDs for the odd rainy day (!) and plenty of storage for clothes. The location is very central but remarkably quiet because it faces the sea, not the town. At the heart of the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast path, there is no more central a place to base yourselves - cafes, bars, restaurants and three beautiful sandy beaches are a short walk away.

About Sue and Ian Orsman

We, Sue and Ian Orsman, live in Richmond, Surrey (West London) with our two daughters, Seren (20) and Caitlin (16). We bought this apartment in 2004 and since then have spent every summer holiday there. For the last four years we have also spent Christmas and New Year there where we had 14 people for lunch and open house for 30 for the Boxing Day Swim! We hope you enjoy the views, the relaxing atmosphere in the flat and the quirky town of Tenby as much as we do.

Sue and Ian Orsman purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Sue and Ian Orsman chose Tenby

We bought the apartment in 2004 in order to spend our family holidays here. Ian is Pembrokeshire born and bred. He grew up in Lamphey just outside Pembroke so this is 'coming home' for him. Ian's parents, brother and family still live in Pembroke and regularly visit and stay with us in the apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

It is an ideal holiday for us because everything is there. If the sun shines, we live on the beach and don't leave Tenby. If it's not a beach day, we walk or we get out in a boat over to Caldy or fishing. Anything that keeps us close to the sea. When it rains, it's an excuse to stay in and do nothing but read books, play cards and watch films. The Hope and Anchor has hosted us on many a rainy evening! We are pretty spontaneous people and with Tenby weather you have to be. Most of all, we love to sit in the flat and watch the weather change - we live by the weather and the tide. We watch the clouds clear and then hot foot it down to the beach - and when the chill sets in, we are back for a cup of tea and those books!

Awesome apartment with breathtaking views and everything you might need for a perfect stay.

Opting to walk up the stairs rather than taking the lift, may have caused a bit of our breathlessness but, my God, the view from the lounge/diner/kitchen took the rest away. It is stunning and you could look at it for hours. In fact we did as the living space was such a great place to be. With so many great places to eat in town, only a short walk away, you may have thought we'd go out for every meal, but our party actually chose to eat in on several occasions (Tesco Express is just 2 mins walk away) just to savour that view. And we'd struggle to get our party to go out after breakfast as everyone just wanted to chill and gaze out the window or take the air on the balcony, even in December!

And it was cold outside, but the various heated rads kept us snug, day and night, with one of our couples deciding they needed to install a heated towel rail, just like the ones in the bathrooms, in their home.

It sounds daft, but even washing up was a pleasurable activity, with no shortage of volunteers, as the window above the sink looks out directly over the colourful harbour. OK, the kitchen isn't that modern but is superbly well equipped with no shortage of crockery, cutlery, cups and glasses...and other essentials - like three bottle openers! We were about to whinge about the size of the kitchen fridge not accommodating all the wine and cheese we'd brought, then found a huge fridge in the upstairs bedroom.

That bedroom is worth a mention as I was nervous, when we booked in as three couples, about a previous review saying it was unsuitable for adults as it had no door. Well, apart from collecting something from the spare fridge, there is no need for anyone else to go up the stairs so the occupants have the whole space to themselves with their own private ensuite bathroom with lovely view over the harbour. There were no short straws!

We had brought our own bedding, just in case it was a bit cheap and cheerful - we are fussy, but found it to be absolutely lovely and ours stayed in the bag, hidden away in the ample sized and hanger filled :) wardrobes.

Finally, the wifi was good and there are plenty of sockets to charge phones and iPads etc. The TV reception is a bit patchy - ITV didn't work one evening - but there is a DVD collection to rival Sky Cinema in the drawer below. Or you may want to bring cables to connect iPads to the TV to watch recorded or streamed programmes.

So, all in all, we had a delightful stay and will definitely be returning again

Location, location, location!

  • 4 of 5

A stunning location - right in the heart of Tenby, with amazing views which we could enjoy from the balcony and various windows. A fantastic base for a family holiday. Easy walk to beaches, cafes & shops meant we didn't miss the car (no parking provided, so needed to buy a weekly ticket from multistorey in town).

A few details prevented this from being a 5 star - upstairs attic room was a great den for kids, but would be less suited to adults due to low ceilings and lack of a door. Apartment was clean and tidy, but felt a bit tired and 'end of season' (e.g. no towels provided, tenants to empty bins on leaving day and find public bins to dispose of rubbish, lack of batteries in TV remotes, various foods left in cupboards past best before dates).

Fabulous views !

  • 5 of 5

You won't find better views from a holiday apartment ! The 3 bedrooms are ideal for our 2 couples and my 2 grandsons and myself. This is the second year we've enjoyed staying here and on a fine day its just a short walk down the road to Castle Beach where we've often spent the whole day. Numerous pubs serving meals are one street away from the apartment so it's ideally placed for meals out. Despite such a rainy week (1st wk Aug) we still thoroughly enjoyed our very comfortable, happy stay at the apartment . We recommend it to everyone !

Great flat for the family

  • 5 of 5

The flat has a big kitchen/ living room with 2 big sofa's and fab views over Tenby. All the beds were comfy and the property has a lift which was essential for our parents as its 3 flights up. It's in the town centre so everything is to hand. Had a great stay with our family and would stay there again.

Beautiful apartment with a stunning view!

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is light and airy and directly overlooks the harbour. Although it is central to everything, it is extremely peaceful. It has everything on the doorstep so no car is necessary. A lovely place to relax and unwind.

Car: not necessary

There are 4 beaches in Tenby. South Beach's 2 kilometres of golden sand spans the shoreline from St. Catherine's Island to Giltar Point. The beach is backed by sand dunes and looks out toward Caldey Island. Castle Beach (our favourite) lies in the cove between Castle Hill and the East Cliff. Harbour beach is a small yet picturesque beach found sheltered at the rear of the harbour bay. Tenby North is a golden stretch of sandy beach, dotted with occasional rock pools and the prominent Goskar Rock.

On a good day (traffic permitting!), Tenby is a 2 hour drive down the M4 from the Severn Bridge Crossing (Bristol). It is approximately 3 1/2 hours drive from Heathrow, 4 hours from West London, 3 1/2 hours from Birmingham, 1 1/2 hours from Cardiff. Tenby has a train station and trains run west from London Paddington via Reading, Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea.

3 miles from nearby seaside town of Saundersfoot. 4 miles from Manorbier with its beach, 12 Century Church and Castle; 4 miles from Carew Castle; 8 miles from Pembroke and its Castle, birthplace of Henry VII; 15 miles from Freshwater West beach, where Hollywood came to Pembrokeshire to film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 and the epic battle scene in Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe. 20 miles from county town of Haverfordwest.

Further Details:

A Tesco Metro supermarket (open from 6am - 10pm) is a 2 minute walk, so no panic if you run out of anything! A larger Sainsbury's supermarket is five mins walk; Braun's the butchers in Tenby Market Hall, Four Seasons local fruit and veg offer good quality fresh produce. There is a WH Smiths and no shortage of surf shops, one or two women's fashion stores and a lovely olde sweet shop.

Wide selection of cafes and restaurants to suit all pockets and tastes - from excellent fish and chips, classic pub food, Indian restaurants and one or two high quality (and more pricey) restaurants.

It is a walker's and nature lover's paradise. Within 10 miles there are several beautiful coastal locations and beaches such as the world renowned Barafundle Bay at Stackpole Quay, Bosherston Lily Ponds and Broadhaven Beach (both featured on BBCs Secret Britain). 15 miles away is Marloes a short boat trip will take you to Skomer Island and its famous bird colonies, surrounded by one of only three marine nature reserves in the UK.

For those looking for adventure, we are 8 miles from Oakwood theme park and the newly developed Blue Lagoon where there is an indoor water park. Heatherton offers a more 'pay as you go' style activity centre with 18 hole par 3 golf course, paintballing, go karts, bumper boats, archery, laser clay shooting. Fishing trips and seal safaris depart regularly from Tenby harbour, as do regular shuttle boats to Caldy island where there is a monastery.

You can also participate in sailing, kayaking, banana boat riding, jet ski safaris in Tenby and nearby there is horse riding. Bikes can also be hired locally. For those looking for a bit of pampering, there is the St Brides Bay hotel in Saundersfoot (3 miles).
