About the property

Le Moulin de la Quentiniere comprise two properties - Le Moulin, a superbly converted flour mill and La Petite Maison, a gorgeous farmhouse, with each property modernised with luxurious fixtures and fittings and set in a quarter acre of land.

Built some time in the 1800s, the estate of Le Moulin de la Quentiniere was originally owned by the Montecot family who still have property in the area. Briefly occupied during the second world war, flour production ceased and the main working mill, le minoterie de la quentiniere, fell derelict and was only used to house chickens.

Fast forward over 50 years or so and the Kipping Family are now the proud, happy owners.

We started by refurbishing what we now call 'La Petite Maison' so that we were able to have wonderful family holidays, christmas and birthday celebrations in our little part of Desertines in Pays de la Loire. Our children wondered at all the space they had to run around and explore and we were all able to come together in the lovely farmhouse kitchen to create mouthwatering meals from the great French food on offer, eat together in the dining room and then snuggle down in front of the roaring wood burner in the sitting room.

After a few months, we turned our attention to le minoterie, renamed by us to 'Le Moulin'. All the family members were called upon - including both dads and even an uncle or two - along with a number of artisans to breath life into Le Moulin. Floorboards were ripped out, walls stripped, the old staircase ripped out amidst lots of shovelling of sand and cement and huge amount of plastering and rendering of walls. The roof was repaired and, in places, completely relaid. Weekends were spent driving to and from the UK and months and months of graft later, we are now the proud, if tired, owners of two spectacular rental properties, Le Moulin and La Petite Maison.

Both properties have 5 spacious bedrooms, indeed, each bedroom suite in Le Moulin has around 400 sq ft of living space; imagine the average hotel suite and times by 3! A lot of the comments I get from guests usually start with "the photos don't do it justice".

Le Moulin is surprisingly large with modern bedrooms suites. Each of these gorgeous suites is furnished with a contemporary kingsize bed with memory foam mattress and features classic decorative touches. The suite is completed with a cosy sitting room with double sofa, flatscreen TV with both freeview and satellite, each with DVD player, with access to both English and French television and radio channels. Our guests can make use of the stocked hospitality trays with complimentary tea, coffee and cookies.

Each suite is complemented by a large stylish bathroom with deep soaking tub, separate shower unit, handwash basins, heated floors as well as being supplied with fluffy bath sheets, hand towels and complimentary luxury bathroom toiletries.

Experience the comfort of home whilst staying in one of our stylish suites, decorated with carefully selected artworks and furnishings.

The TV room on the ground floor has a 50-inch flatscreen - great for get togethers for the whole group - dvd player and a selection of games and books for both adults and children. There are two comfortable armchairs and occasional table tucked away next to a snug sofa and double sofabed.

We provide a cot and highchair for a younger guest in each property.

Complimentary WIFI is provided throughout.

The ground floor has a fully fitted kitchen - hob and oven, Rayburn, industrial size microwave, fridge - all crockery and cutlery is provided for our guests - cookware and ovenware, kitchen utensils and linen, kettle, coffee machine and coffee grinder, chopping boards, toaster.

The kitchen sits next to a large dining area that has sideboards with additional crockery and glassware, three 8-seater tables with dining chairs and a highchair for a younger guest. There is also a small seated area with a coffee table; leading outside from the dining area is a lovely decked area with patio table and chairs for guests to enjoy watching the sun set after a cosy evening meal...

The first floor houses a huge salon which can be used as a cinema/conference/meeting room. At the end of the salon is a private games room with table tennis table, pool table and table football. There are even two cosy bucket chairs and a table with reading lamp to sit and keep score as the pool game gets underway...

As previously mentioned, the second property on the site is La Petite Maison, a lovely modernised farmhouse.

Open the front door to the large entrance hall; the feature window in front reminds of a bygone era, looking out on the quaint rose garden with its raised stone patio area leading down to the gorgeous brick built bbq, for sunny days lazing in the garden...

All 5 of the stylish bedrooms in this property has a large double bed with pocket sprung mattress to ensure a good night's sleep. We've ensured that each bedroom has ensuite facilities and the generously proportioned master suite has its own large bathroom with walk in shower, separate soaking bath, double handbasins and separate WC. We also provide a cot in the main bedroom for use by our younger guest (with a highchair in the dining area).

There is an additional WC on the ground floor and second floor landing.

For our guests' comfort, each room has a hospitality tray with complimentary tea, coffee, cookies and hot drink making facilities and the bathrooms are all provided with fluffy bath sheets, hand towels and complimentary luxury toiletries.

The salon is spacious and airy, with a sofa and large sofabed and a quaint wood burner in the brick built fireplace. The TVs here in La Petite Maison all have freeview and satellite with English and French television and radio channels, and a dvd player. The dining area is furnished with a gorgeous, traditional wood dining table and an ecletic assortment of chairs.

Complimentary WIFI is provided throughout.

The fully equipped Leisure Complex is located across the courtyard, fronted by a picturesque patio area with seating.

The Leisure Complex is available for the use of all guests and has a generous 13m heated indoor pool, bubbling, heated jacuzzi, changing rooms and lockers for our guests' use, along with showers and separate male/female WCs and handwash basin, gymnasium equipped with smith rack, treadmill, stationary bike, rowing machine and power plate. Leading upstairs to the games room with table tennis, snooker, pool tables and the gaming zone complete with Xbox and Wii consoles. #

We have a supply of Xbox, Wii games and dvds - we are happy to have these available for guests - please feel free to ask when booking.

Both Le Moulin and La Petite Maison have a utility room with washing machine and tumble drier, clothes airers and laundry baskets.

Both properties have access to irons, ironing boards and hair dryers.

The properties benefit from being located at the end of a large courtyard with secure entry via private gates.

The large main garden is approximately one third of an acre in size and the ample sized courtyard can hold approx 25+ cars.

There is a patio area in front of both properties where guests are invited to make use of the available tables and chairs. We also provide each property with a barbecue for guest use.

On confirmation of your reservation, all guests are provided with a detailed Welcome Pack with information about their accommodation and some of the local pursuits they may choose to explore as well as local restaurants, opening times of supermarkets, etc.

All bookings include bedding, towels, all kitchen utensils and linens.

We also supply our guests with a complimentary Welcome Basket with bottled water, milk, butter, tea and coffee, sugar, juice, bread, salt and pepper and on special occasions - birthdays, anniversaries, etc - we like to help our guests to celebrate by providing a bottle of bubbly for the adults and cookies for the younger guests :)

I live in Buckinghamshire in the the UK with my husband (that's us in the photo) and children. My hobbies include fitness, cookery and eating!

We enjoy our leisure time and have loved holidaying in France for the last 20+ years.

Le Moulin de la Quentiniere has been a labour of love for us and we are still as passionate about it now as when we first saw it, perhaps more so actually :)

We continually strive to ensure that it is bringing as much joy to our guests as it does to us.

DORN KIPPING purchased this house in 2007

Why DORN KIPPING chose Désertines

I am sometimes asked "why Desertines? What made you buy this property?"

It was a Thursday late night 'surfing the internet' session when I came across the 'for sale' details of Le Moulin de la Quentiniere. My husband and I decided to come over and take a look that weekend and, impulsively, bought it on the spot!

When we first saw Le Moulin, we fell in love with the beauty of the buildings and the tranquility of the surrounding area.

Many, many months of hard graft, lots of broken finger nails (you feel my pain, don't you girls?) as well as the fun of decorating each bedroom, choosing paint and furniture, going on mega shopping sprees for crockery, cutlery, etc and Le Moulin de la Quentniere is now almost the vision we envisaged so long ago.

Le Moulin de la Quentiniere has the ideal picturesque setting with the local village only a 15 minute walk down the road and the nearest town around a 15 minute drive away.

Although you do need a car to get around, it means you have more opportunities to explore and go further afield with Le Moulin as a welcome base to return to.

We have dedicated a lot of time and energy enhancing the beauty and attraction of both of our houses at Le Moulin de la Quentiniere; adding the leisure complex and re-seeding the garden so that we have both an indoor and an outdoor area where we can play as well as adding the patio area so that we can enjoy both staying in or going out and about.

At Le Moulin de la Quentiniere, we are easily accessible by car via the Tunnel then driving down from Calais or coming in via the airports at Rennes or Dinard.

There is a ferry into Caen, St Malo and Ouistreham.

I love coming over to spend time here, welcoming guests and seeing their pleasure at being in such a lovely place.

What makes this house unique

As well as being able to spend time relaxing and enjoying Le Moulin and La Petite Maison and the surroundings, for those with more active pursuits in mind we have the Leisure Complex - complete with heated pool, jacuzzi, gymnasium, games room - or you can take the time to explore the area (maps to loan are available at the local tourist information centre in town).

There's an abundance of places to go; outdoor markets, historical towns, bowling alleys, go-karting centres, outdoor high wire, swin golf, nearby horse-riding, boating lakes, kayaking, amusement parks, tennis centres, or just walking, so much to do.

Once you've exhausted yourself, come back to Le Moulin de la Quentiniere for a pampering session from our very own beautician (bookable in advance) and then have a wonderful meal in the fantastic kitchen - we can arrange for your own cook to come and prepare you a meal - or try some of the local 'plat du jour' at the many restaurants (I am partial to the delicious croissants from our local boulangerie, ummmm)

We also like to leave our guests a complimentary Welcome Basket with bottled water, milk, butter, tea and coffee, sugar, juice, bread, salt and pepper and on special occasions - birthdays, anniversaries - we like to help our guests to celebrate by providing a bottle of bubbly for the adults and cookies for the younger guests :)

Guestbook comments from the manager

The gite is amazing. The children had an absolutely "awesome" time. My parents were bowled over...

Thanks for such an amazing time here! The house is absolutely amazing, you've thought of everything. I am in complete awe of the dedication you have put in to this place to make it so wonderful!

It's been so great & I would love to come back.

Thank you so much!

We have been very proud to be your first official 'rentals' and have had a fabulous stay!

Pat & Karen

We have spent an unforgettable stay in Le Moulin and La Petite Maison. The Moulin is really beautiful. We will never forget the 4 nights for our Wedding.

Manuela & Joaquim

We have had a lovely time at Le Moulin, it certainly is big! With loads of space to relax in. The locals have been very friendly :) At the end of each tiring day, we would come back here to relax, have a hot soak in one of the many beautiful bathrooms or play a family pool tournament.

Kind Regards & Thank You again

Sarah, Terry

Fantastic property in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Have just returned from a wonderful stay at Le Petit Maison and can't praise it enough. We were a party of 9, including 5 children of various ages and there was more than enough space for us all. The house was perfectly set up for several families, with kitchen dinner, lounge with open fire and separate dining area. Each room had its own ensuite and every detail and need was well thought out as well as being spotlessly clean. The outside space includes a patio area and a wonderful outside open fire under a gazebo where we enjoyed a last night bbq. The kids loved the pool and games area, which was a godsend when the weather was poor and the gym was great for those who wanted to run off the pounds after all the food and wine we were enjoying!

There is plenty of places to visit nearby and during our stay we visited the fantastic Mont St Michel and Bagnoles de Lorne which was a stunning town set round a lake with beautiful scenery.

Our hosts were extremely helpful and friendly and answered any queries with speed and efficiency.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to any friends or relatives and would love to visit again!

Séjour au moulin de la quentiniere

  • 5 of 5
