The villa is situated in the historic market town of Caux, described as a jewel of the Languedoc. Caux offers all the necessities: a grocery store, pharmacy, greengrocer, two bakeries, a butcher, a post office, banking facilities and a weekly market on Friday - be sure to taste Caux’s local wines, some of the best wines in France! Near to Pezenas which has a large Saturday market and many events staged. A good selection of coffee shops, bars, restaurants and amenities. The Languedoc-Roussillon is one of the most fascinating areas of Europe, bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Pyrenees Mountains to the south. It benefits from an exceptional climate and has a spectacular coast, and surprising history. Things to see include mountains, rivers and lakes, ancient cities, villages, thermal springs, abbeys, and cathedrals, chateaux and castles. It possesses a number of World Heritage sites, including Carcassonne Castle, the Canal du Midi, and the Pont du Gard.

About the Owner

We are the family Van Bogerijen. Mark, Sandra, Olivia and Emily. We moved to France in May 2007 and have lived here since, after living all our previous lives in the UK. We have two properties for rental. 1) The villa in France is a new build. It is modern in terms of build and decoration but we think the best feature is its location and the views. You have panoramic views from the pool, the terrace, the barbecue area and from every window in the house. (2) The apartment in Fuerteventura is also new build and the quality of the fixtures and fittings is excellent. The view of the sea and mountains are amazing. Well and truly back to work for me I'm afraid but still trying to maintain my happy thought of sipping a beer on your side terrace admiring the views. Thanks again and we had a fab time and the kids loved the pool. We will hope to come again. Our friends have just returned from a traditional French farmhouse and had an awful time sharing with rats and bats so I was arguing the bbenefit of modern to them. Kind Regards Nick and Helen

Bright, spacious house in a great location

This house has it all - it's bright and spacious, on a slight hill with views over the village and surrounding countryside. It's near the coast if you want the beach, a lake for boating, a gorge for canoeing and within easy driving distance of Carcassonne and Montpelier. 3 of the four bedrooms face south and have doors opening onto a balcony overlooking the garden and the village. The fourth is darker and cooler but also lovely. The open plan kitchen/dining area is large and airy - the photographs don't really convey how impressive the room is. We ate outside at the large dining table to the side of the house and lounged at the generous pool, which gets the sun all day. The house is 7 minutes walk from the centre of the village, where there is a boulangerie and a butcher. Supermarket shopping was a 10 minute drive away, in Pezenas, where there are a number of large supermarkets and plenty of restaurants and cafes. We had lovely pizza in the local Bar Rex and visited some great restaurants in the surrounding area, including L'Auberge du Presbytere, where we had a really memorable meal in a fabulous setting. The owners were extremely helpful and easy to deal with and our deposit was returned promptly. Highly recommended!

Beautiful place for a holiday in real France

Fabulous villa with stunning views of Caux and surrounding area. We loved all the little areas in the villa - by the pool, under a little shelter, the terrace, by the BBQ. Lots of areas for sun worshippers and shade lovers alike. Well equipped and modern kitchen. Very enjoyable holiday and true France which was great. Caux is pretty as is Pezenas. Special mention for Le Beverine restaurant in Caux - well worth a visit! Thank you for a super holiday in a lovely villa with views to cherish.

A dream holiday!

As other reviewers have also said, it can take a great deal of time trying to find the perfect villa for a family holiday! We stayed at the villa in Caux from 1-8 August 2015, and to be honest, it was as near perfect a week as we are ever likely to have. The house is stunning, spacious, well- equipped and exactly as described. It has a really nice family feel to it which allowed us to feel it was our 'home' for the week, even down to watering the garden and picking fruit to eat and make juices from. The view from the house is fantastic and we spent hours every evening with the sun going down over the hills, watching the boule and tennis games on the floodlit courts beneath us. The village is a few minutes walk away, very picturesque, packed full of medieval buildings, with a couple of cafes for a coffee and a few shops for essential supplies. If you want a (very good) rotisserie chicken from the boucherie/ charcuterie, they do them on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but make sure you order it earlier in the morning! A few minutes drive away, Pezenas is an amazing town - you feel as if you are walking round a film set. It will be very quiet on a Monday afternoon (most shops shut then), but absolutely heaving on a Friday night with the summer food market taking place and every restaurant packed out. We loved going there on the last evening. There is a lot to see and do in this area if you can tear yourself away from the house and pool. We would recommend Montpellier, and also Carcassonne and Toulouse if you are heading that way, and there are loads of little towns and villages to visit for a stroll and an ice cream. You have to see the water- jousting in Sete if you are visiting in summer!! We had a very lazy week with 3 teenagers, all had a fabulous time, and we will definitely come back to this area. I would recommend both the area, and this villa without hesitation if you are looking for a perfect holiday in this fantastic area of France.

Close to perfect

Having spent many hours searching through holiday listings to find a rental villa we were delighted to find this property. Ticking all of the boxes in terms of things that we were ideally looking for, including a good size private swimming pool, ‘walkable bread’ and table tennis tables (there are two tables shaded by trees a 5min walk from the villa that were available most of the time), the villa is ideally situated, with a stunning view over the village and surrounding area, and is well-equipped/furnished with all mod cons as described on the website. The village may be a bit on the quiet side for some, with no real options for eating out other than a pizza place in the village centre, but there are a couple of bakers and a few other shops and there are plenty of family-friendly restaurants on offer in nearby Pezenas. Although we never met the owners, we really appreciated the welcoming bottle of wine, bread, butter and cheese on arrival. In addition, the owners provide a list recommending restaurants and activities in the local area which was very helpful (we enjoyed an afternoon at the beach in Serignan, a day’s canoeing and a hike in Gorge d’Heric). The Friday night summer market in Pezenas provides a great opportunity to taste some of the local wines and food and there are several large supermarkets in the Pezenas area which are within a few minutes drive from the property. If you’re travelling from the UK and like your home comforts then there’s a large TV and UK satellite channels (Sky TV), along with access to a good selection of DVDs and books. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked in terms of equipment, with large fridges for storing food and drinks, and there’s an outside gas bbq for grilling in the evening. The only very minor problem was that there were a few slabs loose around the swimming pool. However, the owners left a note warning us and clearly planned to deal with it at the first opportunity. All in all a pretty much perfect, very private and relaxing location to spend a week with our teenage kids.

Holiday heaven!

Hi Mark, Sandra and Girls,

Many thanks for a fantastic 2 week stay in your wonderful home. It had everything we look for in a holiday home, clean and tidy, fully equipped and in a perfect location for exploring the hills or coast. We had several days visiting places you recommended and had a brilliant time.

If we could have bottled the view and brought it home with us we would have been thrilled. Instead, we will just have to visit again!

Location

From the Owner

We moved to France to live. After much research we bought in Caux. We love the area. We are in a tranquil location in the Languedoc yet we are 5 minutes from the vibrant town of Pezenas (which is where the girls go to school). We are 20 minutes from an array of beaches and ports and only 30 minutes from lakes and gorges. Yet in the winter we are only 2 hours from the Pyrenees and skiing.

Coast/Beach:

There are an array of beaches and ports all within 20 – 40 minutes from the villa. From North downwards we have:

Famous port of Sete, Oyster beds of Bouzigues, Meze, Marseillain (where the Canal du midi joins the Mediterranean), Vias, Valros and many more!

Travel:

Budget airlines Ryanair abd Easyjet service the area well but other airlines are a plenty. A selection of airports and distances from the villa is as follows:

Beziers (20 mins), Montpellier (40 mins), Carcassone (75 mins), Perpignan (60 mins), Nimes (60 mins) and Gerona (120 mins).

You can also obviously drive or reach us by train.

Distances:

5 mins walk to the pretty Caux village.

5 mins car to historical town of Pezenas.

20-40 minutes South to an array of beaches and ports.

30 minutes North to lakes and the countryside.

Further Details:

Caux itself has all amenities including, a grocery store, pharmacy, greengrocer, two bakeries, a butcher, a post office, banking facilities and a weekly market on Friday mornings.

However Pezenas has the larger supermarkets and a greater selection of coffee shops, bars and restaurants.
