Thanks for a wonderful relaxing holiday. Just what we needed and the house was just perfect. W.K. Dorset

A brief note to congratulate you on a superb home in Les Amis. I must say it is one of the best properties we've stayed at from the Chez Nous brochure. We've had a really good 2 weeks holiday, a mixture of rest and sightseeing and enjoying the wonderful facilities available. T.D. Staffs

Les Amis was the most relaxing and enjoyable week. Set in fabulous surroundings and so peaceful. The pool was great. I feel so refreshed. Thank you. R.G. Suffolk

Had an absolutely lovely stay, the house is very well kept and in a lovely quiet location. The outside pool area with bbq was a real highlight and where we spent 99% of our time.

Excellent countryside property

  • 5 of 5

Les Amis is a really comfortable farmhouse in the heart of the countryside where we have just enjoyed a wonderful week's holiday. We were a party of 6 adults but had plenty of room & the house is well equipped with everything you need. The pool is lovely, a good size & well maintained & we enjoyed lazy days relaxing in the peace & quiet. Pauline made us feel very welcome & we would recommend this house for a relaxing holiday.

Rural Idyll

  • 5 of 5

This is a real gem of a property which is in the heart of the Loire countryside. The house was well maintained and very comfortable. It has a swimming pool which we used on some very hot days. Graham and Pauline were on hand to make sure we were set up for the start of our holiday. The only noise we heard around us were birds singing, which is very rare in England these days. The local area has a lot to offer. We only stayed a week but wish it was longer as there is a lot to do and we only scratched the surface. We had young grandchildren with us and they were well entertained especially at the chateau in Valancy, well worth a visit.

Rural Idyll

  • 5 of 5

A gem set in the Pays de Bazelle of Berry. This property is beautifully maintained by Graham and Pauline and the rural surroundings could not bettered. We awoke every morning to the song of birds (including Nightingales), and the glories of rural France, with its markets, vineyards, restaurants and chateaux, were on our doorstep. Our hosts were welcoming and friendly, and we would highly recommend the home from home they hjave created in the heart of La Belle France.

Location

From the Owner

In 2003 we decided to look for a holiday home in France with a view to eventually retiring there. Our aim was to locate near enough to travel there comfortably in a day and to be far enough south to enjoy warmer weather. So we settled for the Loire Valley and the beautiful village of Menetou sur Nahon in the Indre region and purchased Les Amis in 2004. We love the quiet countryside here, the peace and very laid back lifestyle that seems to pervade the whole area. The river Nahon slowly meanders through the village and has a lovely green play area on its banks. The motorway is only 20 minutes away making it very accessible. Les Amis for us is such a magical place.

Further Details:

Indre along with Cher, form the region known as Berry, within the larger Loire Valley region. It lies in the very centre of France, south of the Paris Basin and just north of the Masif Central. Wheat and barley fields, rolling hills, vineyards, ancient forests, lakes, peaceful villages, elegant manor houses and chateaux make this a truly varied and beautiful land. Much of it is off the well trodden tourist tracks and gives visitors the chance to experience the heart of rural France. At the same time the Loire Valley is rich in history displayed in breathtaking ways through the range of chateaux that are spread throughout the region. Chartres cathedral makes a great stop en route.

The chateaux at Chenonceau, Chambord, Amboise, Cheverny and Valencay are all close by and in their own way, stunning.

The motor museum at nearby Valencay is most interesting and the Beauval Zoological Park at St Aignan-sur-Cher is one of the best zoos in France if not Europe, with over 4000 animals, a superb jungle house and a lagoon of piranhas.

An important river crossing-place on the road from Valençay to Romorantin with a bridge since Roman times, Chabris was once the site of the ancient Bishop of Bourges's feudal fortress. Its church was built over the tomb of the 6th century hermit Saint Phalier. Now a large village of some 2,700 people, it features a remarkable range of facilities. For practical matters there is a post office, three banks and a tourist information office. Shops offer everything from electrical equipment, local wines, bread and cakes, to groceries and newspapers. There is a new Super U with cheap petrol. Eating out can be undertaken at bars, cafes and restaurants at a range of prices while regular entertainment is provided at the beach dances and the local disco. There is a doctor, a dentist, a pharmacy, and a vet.

In Menetou there is a children's play area by the river & a petanque court. A local farmer makes goats cheese - well worth a visit.
