Apartment in Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal - Located in a Riverside Townhouse in the 'Slow City' of Tavira with white sand beaches close by
NEW 2016 FREE WIFI internet access to help our guests stay in touch....
Sought after first floor studio in a superb location alongside the river, central for the whole of Tavira and its blue flag white sandy beaches. Offering a very large airy space with a good modern kitchen and good size shower room and a balcony, overlooking a small cobbled street, that can be enclosed during the cooler months or open, with fly screens, for relaxing during the long summer evenings. 2015 we have just upgraded this studio apartment again in an endeavour to offer as much comfort as possible.
NEW hotel style hand wash pump+body/shampoo gel pump+toilet tissue dispenser+wall mounted hair dryer/shaver point installed to compliment our facilities.
During the season there is a ferry to the Ilha Tavira, with is famous long white sandy beaches, which is just a step away. In the heart of Tavira, yet away from the hustle and bustle, with its cobbled streets, small shops, restaurants and riverside cafes. The restaurants are many and varied and our guests comment on the quality but the prices as being very cheap especially the wine, its variety and quality as Portugal is now winning lots of awards for its wines... During August there is live entertainment in the Praca from music to traditional dancing. This is an all year round destination with a dual air-con/heater unit in the living space. This studio can be rented with our 1 bedroom apartment P2691 or P17358 to make very flexible accommodation for up to 3 couples but having total independence. As Tavira is a 'Slow City' it is just what you will experience in the relatively unspoilt historic town..a slow pace of life.. Tavira also has a bus and train station and it is possible to access the whole of the Algarve, Lisbon and beyond and the bus even takes you to Seville. We also have the Ecovia which is a network of bike and walking paths stretching the Algarve from end to end which is mostly on small roads and tracks and now very popular. The whole area down to Quatro Aguas and the other ferry stop has been renovated with a
walking/cycle path, many seats and shade and trees, with restaurants and cafe/bars.
This is a great easy flat walk between the Roman salinas with the wading birds and flamingos,

About the Owner
We are George and Barbara & have been married for over 45 years! We have 30 years+ previous experience of renting properties in Sussex & Belgium. We have had a villa in Tavira for 12 years & when we retired spent time between the 3 countries. Needless to say we could not resist looking for good quality properties for rental & decided to share the lovely city of Tavira with others. We have always had the opinion that if we would want to stay in a place so would other people and we have always used that criteria. We realise that holidays are very important to people as they spend a long time choosing and looking forward to them & saving for them. For us it is also important that we treat people as we like to be treated. We are constantly looking to upgrade our apartments for extra comfort
Guestbook comments from the owner
We had a wonderful holiday in your studio which was a lot more spacious than we expected and was convenient to all the facilities that Tavira has to Offer and we wish to book again for 2015 LE
We had a wonderful time in the studio it was so near the Isla boat it made it easy when we got back from a long day on the beach The proximity to the fish & veg market made the week a magical daily eating experience It was so relaxing we both wanted to give up our jobs and stay forever Thanks for everything DC
We have had a fantastic time in Tavira and are already thinking about a return trip, we like it that much EH
Just to say how much we enjoyed our stay in your lovely studio, thanks, JL.

Stay in Tavira
Upon arrival the apartment I had previously booked was not suitable for my elderly parents due to steep stairs. My parents were given an upgrade free of charge to suit their needs which was greatly appreciated. The apartment was beautifully fitted and designed for a comfortable stay. Carmen was very accommodating and ensured my parents were comfortable for the rest of the holiday.
Wonderful apartment in a perfect location
This is the second time we've stayed in Barbara and George's studio apartment and it won't be our last! The location is perfect as only a few steps to the Ferry which took us to the beach on Tavira Island. We would recommend this apartment to anyone seeking a quiet location with all amenities.
Super apartment studio. Central to everything. 😀
Great stay in a lovely central homely studio.
Ferry to Isla Tavira 2 minutes away. We visited the beach which was lovely for families - many choice of restaurants serving good foods. Catered for everyone.
Just my husband and I travelled this time. But we will return. And would love to book again with Barbara & George.
Happy holiday we had in deed.
From the Owner
“We bought this building purely because it is right alongside the Rio Gilao right in the heart of Tavira and there are only a handful of apartments that have this position. The ground floor is let as a large 1 bedroom apartment. It has 2 first floor apartments at the front is a one bedroom apartment with 1 bedroom studio at the rear having a private balcony overlooking a small cobbled side street. We fell in love with Tavira when we first saw it and that is why we live here. It still has a slow pace and is relatively unspoilt. The countryside behind is stunning and well worth a visit just driving and exploring the small white villages and stopping at a small cafe for a drink with the locals. In Spring the hills are painted white and yellow from the cistus and mimosa.”

Special interest holidays:
The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is a must for 'twitchers' or those just interested in protected areas. The quantity and varieties of migrating birds is amazing and you may be lucky to catch a glimpse of the flamingos feeding in the salinas. One of our guests counted over a hundred different types of bird in one day!
All the beaches have the coverted EEC blue flag Long white sand, safe with small tides where you can walk, swim or just relax, boasting some of the warmest water temperatures in the Algarve, normally 25C in summer Tavira Island and Barril beach are accessed by a small train or ferry and there are a few small restaurants & cafes so the beach can be enjoyed as long as you desire. Even in the peak season you will find a quiet stretch of beach. Within a 10 minute drive beaches are accessed directly.

Tavira is one of the most unspoilt towns in the Algarve with the Rio Gilao running through it centre and spanned by a 7 arch Roman bridge and has been given the accolade of a 'slow city'. This unspoilt town retains its historic medieval past with the castle standing watch over some 30 churches. The winding cobbled streets are full of small shops and riverside cafes and a daily market offers fresh local fish from the local fishermen caught that morning, local fruit and vegetables all at very good prices. There are a varied choice of good restaurants at very reasonable prices. During the season the outdoor 'amphitheatre' provides evening music and entertainment. Concerts and classical recitals are held in some of the large churches, which is a wonderful natural setting. During August the Ingreja da Calma hosts an outdoor festival of cinema in its precincts. The Algarve boasts long white sandy beaches with the coveted Blue Flag. The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, which is a World Heritage site has many rare species of birds enjoying the benefits of a large system of tidal lagoons which is a bird twitchers paradise. Many species of birds migrate here, or stop on the way. Flamingos paddle in the salinas (salt pans) and storks make unruly nests on any high vantage point. During August you can watch the Flor do Sal, sea salt, being harvested by hand how it has been done for hundreds of years. We now have a shopping mall outside the town with over 100 shops, a food hall, Portuguese style and a 4 theatre cinema for those inclement days which are far and few between. The old Convento da Graça has been tenderly renovated into a stunning Pousada, to dine in the cloisters is a real must.
