Chalet with Hot Tub, Sauna and Stunning Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Nov-2016
Chalet in St Gervais, Haute Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France - Close to Megeve, Contamines and Chamonix

Chalet Arkle was built in 2006 and equipped to exacting standards. It has been awarded a five star rating by the local tourist board this year. South facing, the property is spacious with large open plan living and dining area with an open fire. It comprises three floors. It also has a hot tub and sauna. The chalet provides easy access to the ski resorts of St Gervais, Megeve, Les Contamines, Saint-Nicolas de Veroce and the Chamonix valley. It is situated at the end of a quiet cul de sac road. The ski bus stops at the bottom of the road, but we always recommend hiring a car, to take full advantage of the skiing opportunities. A large skating rink is also within walking distance, as well as tennis courts and a swimming pool. St Gervais offers a variety of restaurants from Michelin Star to typical Savoyard food.

Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

We are an English couple who live and work in the north of England. We bought the chalet in 2010 having looked to purchase a chalet that would be easy access from Geneva, to enable us to enjoy it not only for holiday time but also for weekends. We have four children, all of whom enjoy skiing and are really looking forward to having a base in the mountains. We would like to think of this as our second home and hope that anyone staying in it will treat it as such and that they enjoy the atmosphere there, as much as we do.

Fabulous Chalet

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week in St Gervais. The chalet is fabulous with lots of character. The bedrooms were very comfortable and communal areas were ideal for our party of two families. I would highly recommend and we will definately try to book again next year.

Outstanding Chalet with loads of Savoie Charm

  • 5 of 5

What a great week. The chalet has a real feel of 5* home away from home. In impeccable condition and even has an AGA. Very spacious and comfortable. A fabulous fire in the sitting room which is in the heart of the chalet. The hot-tub was most welcome for sore limbs at the end of the day. The view from the Chalet over the valley is spectacular. The chalet is superbly equipped and it is clear the owners pay attention to every last detail. The town itself has loads and loads of charm. A truly fantastic and enjoyable week. Thank you so much.

Pretty Chalet, shabby treatment

  • 1 of 5

Planned a last minute skiing trip to France with old friends we holiday with frequently. Had a great experience at the chalet and ski resort during our holiday, we were excellent guests, wrote honest and glowing reports in the chalet visitors book. Then we returned home to England and received email demands for keeping our deposit based on spurious local builder claims of buckled ski locker door and 'wet' footprints on the bathroom floor upstairs. It sounds petty & silly I know and indeed it was...but, despite protests, still we remain out of pocket after a marvellous family holiday, so in all good faith I cannot recommend to anyone at all despite the chalet having tremendous appeal and good facilities. Sorry! this is the first bad review I have given any luxury rental in over 40 years of world travelling. The Davies

Owner's Response: The above review was from the same party as the previous negative review. The guests have failed to mention that we withheld half of the deposit as agreed, to cover the cost of the food as requested by the families. We happily arranged food for the freezer for the two families as they had told us this was their first experience of self catered accommodation and would prefer not to cook in the evenings. We also arranged for a cleaner to come in everyday once the guests had gone skiing to clear up after breakfast.

Unfair treatment by owners

  • 1 of 5

Nice chalet but owners behaviour over deposit on our return spoilt trip. Owners unfairly retained deposit for swollen boot room door (it rained heavily) and wet footprint on bathroom floor!!! They clearly do not value customers. I cannot recommend on this basis.

Owner's Response: Whilst we are grateful for nice comments left by "Anonymous" following their stay, we are not so enamoured by their review which attempts to wreck our business through social media about withholding a relevant proportion of the damage deposit. It is a fact that the damage caused during their stay was verified by the cleaner and chalet manager and supported by photographic evidence that we have on record. The cost of replacing/repairing these items was greater than the amount retained from the damage deposit. An ex gratis payment was paid to show goodwill- this clearly didn't work!

Location

From the Owner

We stayed in St Gervais whilst looking at properties in surrounding locations, but we were so taken by the town and the skiing (and the lack of queues!) that we decided to approach a local agent who showed us this chalet, which we loved from the moment we saw it. We are at varying skiing standards in the family. Nick is a good skier and enjoys a challenge be it on piste or off, however Vickie is a lot more cautious, but really enjoys the variety of slopes and particularly skiing across to Megeve and in amongst the trees. Very importantly there are good lunch locations on the mountains! Saint Gervais has a great feel and has excellent restaurants to suit the family or 'Michelin' if we are a deux! for the evenings.

Facilities

From the Owner

The chalet has been set up as a second home, even to having an Aga. We have tried to use quality products in the chalet, which we hope will be appreciated and enjoyed by anyone staying there. We have installed more bathrooms, a sauna and hot tub to ensure staying in the chalet is a bit special and has some of the things that we don't have time to enjoy at home. We are sure our guests will enjoy staying there as much as we will.
