Overview

About the property

Chalet in St Gervais, Haute Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France - Close to Megeve, Contamines and Chamonix

Chalet Arkle was built in 2006 and equipped to exacting standards. It has been awarded a five star rating by the local tourist board this year. South facing, the property is spacious with large open plan living and dining area with an open fire. It comprises three floors. It also has a hot tub and sauna. The chalet provides easy access to the ski resorts of St Gervais, Megeve, Les Contamines, Saint-Nicolas de Veroce and the Chamonix valley. It is situated at the end of a quiet cul de sac road. The ski bus stops at the bottom of the road, but we always recommend hiring a car, to take full advantage of the skiing opportunities. A large skating rink is also within walking distance, as well as tennis courts and a swimming pool. St Gervais offers a variety of restaurants from Michelin Star to typical Savoyard food.

About Victoria Straker

We are an English couple who live and work in the north of England. We bought the chalet in 2010 having looked to purchase a chalet that would be easy access from Geneva, to enable us to enjoy it not only for holiday time but also for weekends. We have four children, all of whom enjoy skiing and are really looking forward to having a base in the mountains. We would like to think of this as our second home and hope that anyone staying in it will treat it as such and that they enjoy the atmosphere there, as much as we do.

Victoria Straker purchased this chalet in 2010

Why Victoria Straker chose St. Gervais - Megeve area

We stayed in St Gervais whilst looking at properties in surrounding locations, but we were so taken by the town and the skiing (and the lack of queues!) that we decided to approach a local agent who showed us this chalet, which we loved from the moment we saw it. We are at varying skiing standards in the family. Nick is a good skier and enjoys a challenge be it on piste or off, however Vickie is a lot more cautious, but really enjoys the variety of slopes and particularly skiing across to Megeve and in amongst the trees. Very importantly there are good lunch locations on the mountains! Saint Gervais has a great feel and has excellent restaurants to suit the family or 'Michelin' if we are a deux! for the evenings.

What makes this chalet unique

The chalet has been set up as a second home, even to having an Aga. We have tried to use quality products in the chalet, which we hope will be appreciated and enjoyed by anyone staying there. We have installed more bathrooms, a sauna and hot tub to ensure staying in the chalet is a bit special and has some of the things that we don't have time to enjoy at home. We are sure our guests will enjoy staying there as much as we will.

`Luxurious, homely & secluded

  • 5 of 5

Chalet Arkle is situated in a commanding position above the ancient spa town of St Gervais with incredible west facing views enjoyable at all times of the day but especially in the afternoon and evening after skiing. Inside there is an immediate welcome with a spacious living area and roaring log fire. The Aga cooker in the kitchen adds traditional atmosphere and warmth to this convivial self catering chalet. The en suite bedrooms are extremely comfortable. Donning a robe from the bathroom you can walk on to a terrace where the hot tub awaits with spell binding views & a night sky to savour as dusk descends. The accessible ski areas are huge and varied catering for all standards and abilities. They are within easy reach by car. Essentially a private home with all the comfort and civilised touches one would expect, with access to multiple ski areas, Chalet Arkle is in the top league.

Home Away from Home at Chalet Arkle

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous week we had at Chalet Arkle. It really is a home away from home, comfortable, furnished incredibly stylishly with touches of luxury. Secluded and private, yet within walking distance for croissants, what could be more heavenly than a hot tub under the stars with commanding views. Unreserved recommendation. Loads of varied skiing.

An Amazing Week.

  • 5 of 5

This was truly the best skiing holiday that I have been on, made by the amazing Chalet Arkle. It was luxurious, with everything we needed from a hot tub to an Aga! The owners could not have been more helpful and everything was as they described. The skiing area was enormous and we never skied in the same area twice. The chalet is within walking distance of everything you need - from excellent restaurants, to supermarkets and bakeries. I could not recommend the chalet more and would recommend it without reservation.

Exceptional

  • 5 of 5

In every regard, this place is exceptional. Having skied for three decades and been fortunate to experience many chalets, Chalet Arkle is in the top two. The charm, sophistication and style of the owner pervades throughout the chalet; it is beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and no expense has been spared. Log fires, exquisite views, sauna, hot tub...it even has a Aga! The property is fabulously located and St Gervais is a very pretty town. Oh, and if you ever want to leave the chalet, the skiing is rather good too! Can't rate this place highly enough. We will be back ;-)

We had a wonderful stay at Chalet Ankle.Nothing was too much trouble for the owners who gave us so much information on the area. The chalet has been beautifully put together, not only practical but a perfect place to relax with a G and T in the evening in front of a roaring log fire.A short walk to the boulangerie for croissants is a perfect way to warm up before skiing. The ski area is huge,we hardly skied the same run twice.

I would certainly recommend Chalet Arkle and hope to be back soon.

Fabulous Chalet

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week in St Gervais. The chalet is fabulous with lots of character. The bedrooms were very comfortable and communal areas were ideal for our party of two families. I would highly recommend and we will definately try to book again next year.
