Apartment in El Cotillo, Fuerteventura - Just five minutes from some of Europe's finest beaches
Casa Irene is on the doorstep of some of Europe's finest beaches. To the north (5mins) are the undeveloped lagoons, with their calm shallows, rock pools and quiet sandy stretches. To the south (5mins) you'll find surfers, windsurfers and kite boarders jostling for position on the waves. The village of El Cotillo features a host of excellent restaurants and bars, but at heart it remains a quiet fishing village. Nearby you'll find a bustling nightlife at the resort of Corallejo (15 mins), plus many excellent sporting facilities including golf (40mins), diving (20mins), 50m pool (40mins), hiking (10mins), surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding (5mins). The apartment itself is a fantastic place to kick back and relax! There are two large terraces with loungers and seating areas. Inside, there's a host of entertainment options including TV/DVD, CD/radio, a docking station for your iPod, books and games. And there's all the kitchen equipment you'll need . . . including a teapot!

From the Owner
“We've been visiting Fuerteventura for 16 years, and fell for El Cotillo the moment we saw it on that first trip. The family spends several weeks there each year. It really is a great place to unwind. On the doorstep there are some of Europe's finest beaches - 5mins north or south and you are either in shallow, calm lagoons or jostling for position on the waves with kite-boarders, surfers and windsurfers. In either case, the beaches are wide, sandy, quiet and undeveloped. Not far away we have excellent walking, golf and a 50m Olympic pool, while there's nightlife in Corallejo (15mins). El Cotillo has grown up a little since we first came, but at heart it remains a peaceful fishing village. The village has many excellent restaurants and bars and the atmosphere is friendly and warm.”
Activity and Interests
To drive to the beaches takes five minutes, or to walk it's around 15 minutes.
The nearest beach is about 500m away.
It's 40 minutes to El Cotillo from the airport.
Either hire a car - we recommend Cicar - or we can arrange airport transfers which are charged locally.
There are Ferry terminals at Correlejo (20 mins) and Puerto del Rosario (40 mins), both with car hire and transfers available.
Shops, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance.
Local tourist attractions include El Toston, built as a defence against marauding English pirates; and the splendid lighthouse just up the coastal road.
There's also a variety of other attractions -
Surf sports, hiking and tennis can be reached in 10 mins.
Horseriding, diving, waterpark, bustling nightlife in 15 mins.
Golf, cinema, Olympic Pool in 40 mins.
The local amenities are very good. Within the El Carmen complex (and within a minute's walk), there's an excellent tapas and pizza restaurant, with an adjoining bar that is particularly good on a Sunday night when football's on the telly. There's also a baker for all those breakfast needs - excellent coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice too.
Add an extra minute to your journey (that's two now, by the way) and you've reached Impescasa supemarket, the Italian eaterie at the end of the block and the surf shop.
You've also reached the Ferreteria (ironmonger's). If you're stuck for something, head to the ferreteria. If you can say it - fantastic. But if you can merely draw it or perform an appropriate action, chances are you'll get what you need. I genuinely find excuses to buy things from the ferreteria - it's brilliant fun.
Within another minute or two (we're on foot, by the way), you'll find a simply superb pizzeria (orange sign, you can't miss it), Altea Marea tapas bar (forget the menu, ask Luca to send you over a selection), hairdressers, a couple of banks, cycle and surf hire.
Then it's a few short strides to Casa Rustica, one of El Cotillo's culinary gems, and some other good local bars and eateries.
Taking a slight detour, you'd also be at El Toston by now - the defensive tower overlooking the new harbour. And you'll have seen Pescadores (try the courgette/cheese/honey starter and anything fishy).
And you're just a stroll now from the old harbour, its restaurants and stunning bay.
Fifteen minutes, or thereabouts, will get you to the surf or lagoon beaches (Azzuro's aubergine and parmesan pie recommended for lunch!).
With car, it's five minutes to the beaches, or to Greek delight La Higuera at El Roque. Within 10 or 15? Happy Plants garden centre (yes, I know, it's a holiday in the sun, but it is good fun!), Casa Marcos at Villaverde, the Spidery Cave, La Oliva.

From the Owner
“Casa Irene is a fabulous place to base your holiday. It's easy to reach - just 40 mins from the airport. And we can arrange to collect you if you decide not to rent a car. On the ground you'll be looked after by our management team, who have been welcoming guests to El Cotillo for a decade. The apartment itself has two fantastic terraces - both with sun-loungers and seating areas - perfect for al fresco dining and sunset cocktails! Inside, it's decorated to our own high standards and there's plenty of entertainment on offer. It's a short walk to local shops, bakery, restaurants and bars. And just 5mins by car (15 on foot) to some of Europe's finest beaches.”
