Located down a long private drive with far reaching views over the surrounding countryside, Hawthorn Cottage built in 1880, was originally part of the neighbouring Hop Farm, where it was used to house the hop wagons. Now converted, it provides an idyllic rural setting for a peaceful visit to Kent. The variety of attractions in the area are unlimited and include the Kentish towns of Maidstone, Royal Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks; Leeds, Hever and Scotney Castles, and historical attractions such as Chartwell and Penshurst Place. The local area also boasts All Saints Church at Tudeley, the only church in the world with all windows in stained glass and designed by Marc Chagall. Situated just 4 miles from the town of Tonbridge, London can also be reached by train in 50 minutes. Hawthorn Cottage is an ideal location for your stay in Kent.

Our second holiday at this excellent cottage

We had stayed at this cottage last summer and were keen to visit the area again this year so we were very happy to return. Another very warm welcome from Roland and Lorna. The cottage is quite small but very comfortable and with a really nice outside space. It is situated along a country lane and is in a peaceful location. The cottage is very well situated to visit the many attractions in Kent and Sussex as well as for day trips into London by direct train from Tonbridge. I would highly recommend this cottage.

Compact, comfortable cottage in ideal location

Very comfortable and situated ideally for visiting the many varied attractions in Kent and Sussex, a quiet location away from the highway but with good access to eating places and shops.

The owners are very welcoming but not obtrusive and "Bodger" the small dog was a delight and that is from a non-doggy person.

The only slight drawback which loses 1 star was that from our viewpoint there was no garden to sit out in, but Roland was in the process of rectifying this.

A cosy cottage in a beautiful rural setting

The cottage was well positioned to all the amenities we wanted and in a beautiful rural setting, with car parking and the usual comforts. The cottage was also very warm, clean and welcoming, with beams and a wonderful roll top bath to relax in, after all that's what holidays are for.

3 week stay

We stayed for 3 weeks while having building work done to our house - we have 2 small boys so we certainly filled the house. Although it is bijou, it had everything we needed and we really enjoyed it.

We are local so are already spoiled by the stunning countryside and lovely surroundings but, as a holiday-maker, you couldn't ask for a better setting.

We enjoyed some lovely walks, runs and bike rides in the local area and made ourselves at home at the excellent pub down the road.

The house itself was well equipped with all you'd need in the kitchen plus abundant fluffy towels, luxurious pillows and bed linen and a very comfy king size bed. Our hosts were very welcoming and ensured we had everything we needed throughout our stay.

Thank you so much for a peaceful haven during a fairly stressful time!

Comfortable cottage in a great location

We very much enjoyed our stay at Roland and Lorna's. The cottage was very well equipped and we particularly appreciated the large flatscreen TV and very comfortable bed. Great location - easy to get to London, the coast and many historical sites. Recommend without reservation!

Special interest holidays:

We are located close to the River Medway where there are opportunities for fishing and canoeing and walking. There are many places of historical interest e.g., Chartwell (Winston Churchill's residence), Hever Castle, Leeds Castle, Sissinghurst & Knole (Vita Sackville-West's residence), Penshurst Place, Bodiam Castle.


Hastings, Brighton, Camber Sands, Eastbourne are all approximately 30 miles.


Gatwick airport is a 45 minute drive, Heathrow - approx 75 minutes by car, 35 minute drive to Ashford (Eurostar). We are happy to arrange taxis to and from airports and local car hire.


Tunbridge Wells 10 mile, Maidstone 7 miles, Tonbridge 3 mile, Sevenoaks 10 miles, Paddock Wood 3 miles, London 35 miles.

Further Details:

A peaceful, idyllic location within walking distance of a 16th century public house. Local amenities are a short drive.
