About Steve Peak

We bought this house in Beverley as a base for visiting family and friends in the area.

When we first viewed it, we fell in love with it. The previous owner was an architect who had sympathetically modernised it with care and attention to detail. The day room at the rear of the house is what really sold it to us as it is a light and airy room even in winter. The roof is higher than the normal rooms with two large skylights and the far wall is all glass. This makes the room almost part of the garden and even on mild winter days we often sit with the door wide open.

We love Beverley which is a beautiful market town and is handy for some lovely villages in the Yorkshire Wolds where we like to walk.

What makes this house unique

It is situated on a quiet street with free on street parking and friendly neighbours who will help ensure your stay is enjoyable.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Grove Cottage had everything we had hoped for, including a properly equipped kitchen and a comfortable bed. The little garden was just as neat and as secluded as in the photos; and the location within Beverley was just right. If we stay in Beverley again (as we hope we will), we hope we can stay again. Again, many thanks. - Sheffield.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cottage has been marvellously equipped and as such we wanted for nothing. We will definitely stay here again. - Isle of Man.

This is an ideal place to stay while working in Hull. It is the best accommodation around. Thank you for making our time in Beverley perfect.

A lovely cottage and the perfect base for visiting our family and friends. Hope to return in the future - Channel Islands.

A great place to stay. We had lots of sun all week. The cottage is well equipped and handy to all that’s needed. We hope to return on our next visit to Beverley. - New Zealand.

A great place from which to explore

  • 5 of 5

The property was clean and comfortable, even better than the photos suggest. Steve and Roy were extremely helpful and welcoming, both before and during our stay. It was a short walk to the railway station and into pretty Beverley town. Our golden doodle thoroughly enjoyed her holiday too, especially our trip to Bridlington, where she loved to chase the seagulls into the sea.

Fabulous cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is wonderful and has everything you need. The rear room is a wonderful room to relax in, whilst viewing the garden. The cottage is situated within walking distance of the town and supermarkets. Coast is also accessible by car within 30-45 minutes. We are looking forward to staying again.

Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

Property was much more roomier than I expected. We had an en suite main bedroom with a good size second room in the attic which is ideal for kids. The kitchen has all you need and the garden room is warm enough to spend most of your time and good for socialising whilst cooking. We barely used the lounge at the front of the property. The location is superb and you could walk into the centre of Beverley no issue. It is easy access to Hull and York is only an hour away. If we need to stay in the area again will be first place we look.

Coast/Beach:

Beverley is close the coastal resorts of East Yorkshire, including the nature reserves of Spurn Point and Flamborough Head. These are wonderful for bird watching.

Travel:

Leeds Bradford airport is an hour away and there are good road and rail links to the rest of Britain. London is about two hours away by train. A car is not essential but would be an enjoyable addition to your stay.

Distances:

The historic city of York is 30 miles away. Also you may not have considered visiting the nearby town of Hull but the old town has some interesting landmarks and excellent museums plus a spectacular aquarium. The journey takes only 15 minutes by train.

Castle Howard of 'BridesHead Revisited' fame is an hour's drive and there are many picturesque villages around the area. The Yorkshire Wolds are on the doorstep with excellent easy walking.

Further Details:

Beverley is a historic market town with a twice weekly market and a host of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. You will also find the better known supermarkets close by.

There is an award winning fish and chip shop and an excellent deli 5 minutes walk from the house.

The town dates back to the 8th Century and was originally known as Inderawuda and was founded by Saint John of Beverley during the time of Angle kingdom Northumbria.

After a period of Viking control, it was passed into the hands of Saxons where it became more prominent in terms of religious importance in Great Britain. It continued to grow especially under the Normans when its trading industry was first established. A place of pilgrimage through the Middle Ages due to its founder, Beverley eventually became known as a noted wool-trading town.

Beverley was once the 10th largest town in England and amongst the richest, thanks in part to its connection to founding saint of the town John of Beverley, however the English Reformation saw the town drop in stature.
