We are a French and English couple (technician and teacher) and have lived in Normandy with our 2, now grown up, children, since 1986. We have all enjoyed life by the coast, sharing the area with friends and family and making the most of the countryside and the beaches.
J.Brocard purchased this house in 2002
We bought the house in 2002 for holidays and use it ourselves regularly. Barneville is very special for us as it has been a holiday destination for the French side of the family since the 70's when it was still a small family seaside resort. We even got married there and spent the afternoon in blazing sunshine on the beach at Carteret.
A perfect stay for us at Barneville is going to the market, having a coffee in a local café and bringing home local produce, seafood, cheese from the local specialist on the market, pâté and fresh bread.
When we welcome our guests we know they will love it as much as we do.
The house is just a short walk to the beach, its summer beach café and the sea front hotel and restaurant. The house is a comfortable family home which is well equipped and the best part of the house is the huge conservatory which is the perfect place to be at the end of the day as it faces west and gets sunshine most of the day.
Great holiday, perfect accommodation, best equipped holiday home yet ! (The Flynns).
We have had a wonderful stay and are sorry to be leaving. Have stayed in many gites in France and this is by the best. We will be back. (The Rue family).
Have had a fabulous holiday - the sun shone down on us. Perfect for 2 families sharing. Kids had a great time in the garden. (Mel Warner).
A wonderful and very well equipped property with lots of space for the children to tear around outside and room for the adults to pull up a chair and kick back. The local beach is under 10 minutes walk away and whilst we stayed was beautiful but almost deserted. One of the best holidays we have had as a family.....thank you Jane, we hope to be back soon! Mark, Lisa & George
We were three generations staying for the second time. The house was excellent - clean, well equipped and very spacious. It worked really well with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom at one end and a double en-suite at the other and the sun room an added bonus. The garden is a very big and good for adults and children alike. It is just a short walk to the sandy beach. The boulangerie is also a short walk for your breakfast croissants etc and also a small shop. The supermarket is only a few minutes drive. There are beautiful walks along the cliffs at Carteret. It is also ideally placed to explore further afield - D Day beaches, Bayeaux and Mont St Michel. Jane, the owner, is very pleasant and helpful and made the whole experience hassle free. We have already booked again for next year again bringing our grandchildren.
We had a warm welcome on arrival and were shown around the well equipped house and garden. The house has plenty of room and the conservatory is great for dining and games The beautiful beach is just a short walk from the house and the main supermarket just outside of town is excellent.
We found some good restaurants in Carteret which is beautiful and well worth a visit and watched the catch of the day being brought in. Shopping in Cherbourg is also good to pass the time when the sun is not shinning.
I had booked into the Mirabelle Villa for 1 week, with my wife and 16month son. On arrival we were greeted by the owner with a very warm welcome and given a helpful tour of the property and left with a comprehensive information pack.
The house itself is a fantastic size with four good sized bedrooms, open-plan kitchen/living area and a massive conservatory. Plus a huge enclosed garden with 2 sets of garden furniture. They house is very well equipped and even has BBC1-C5 on the TV, though with the wonderful outdoor space, the TV wasn;t on long.
The location is great - less than 10 minutes to the beautiful Barneville beach - in the middle of June we had it to ourselves. Also food basics can be found within 5mins of the house and a bigger supermarket less than 10min in the car. Further afield, there are plenty of sights to see - we went to Mont Saint Michel, the D Day landing beaches, Bayeux and Champrepus Zoo - all highly recommended.
Overall we had an amazing holiday and would recommend this house to everyone, be it a young family or an older couple, as 3 of the bedrooms are on the ground floor. All questions to the owner were met with speedy , complete and very friendly responses. No complaints at all !
