Le Vieux Café Holiday Home, Heated Pool, Games Room & Great Countryside Views

Updated: 22-Oct-2016
Le Vieux Café Holiday Home at Maison Lairoux in Lairoux, Nr. Lucon, Vendee, Pays de la Loire, France - Village Location, 15km From The South Vendee Beaches, Stunning Views Across The Valley

Le Vieux Café was once the hub of village life as it used to be a restaurant, café and grocery store. Now, fully restored, it is a large comfortable family holiday home. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 shower rooms and a fully equipped kitchen, plus plenty of outside space.

Outside there is a private dining area, with large dining table and chairs and an awning above for shelter.

The living room has a 32 inch TV with UK and French free-to-air satellite channels, a laptop and secure Wi-Fi internet connection.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything for a comfortable holiday - dishwasher, washing machine, electric oven, ceramic hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. One of the shower rooms leads off of the kitchen and has a shower cubicle, hand basin and WC.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms - one large master bedroom (30m²) with double bed, single bed and cot, and two further bedrooms each with two single beds. A third single bed can be added to one of the twin rooms if required. The second shower room is on the first floor and has a double shower cubicle, hand basin and separate WC.

There is a games room with Xbox 360, table tennis, pool table, and 100s of games, books and DVDs.

In the large gardens (1500m²) you will find a 12 x 7m heated swimming pool (open and heated from May until the end of September), a boules court, swings and a picnic table. We also have a gym - with cross trainer, treadmill, bike, rower and weights, along with several cycles for your use.

The house is located on high ground and has un-interrupted views across the local Marais (Wetlands), where you will see lots of wildlife - buzzards, herons, horses, frogs, boar and deer.

The house is geared towards families, and a cot, high chair, stairgate, plastic crockery & cutlery are all provided for your use. All bed linens and towels are provided (except pool/beach towels).

This house shares the pool, games room, garden and gym with one other two bedroom holiday home - L'Ecurie and can be rented individually or together with this house for larger family gatherings or friends holidaying together.

Some pets are accepted, please ask for more details.

Another brilliant stay & fantastic holiday. We are sad to leave!

Frankie turned 8 & thank you for his lovely cake Annette!

Best/Fave parts were La Terrière beach, the pool & games room, visit to ile d'Aix.

Thanks for all your friendly hosting Annette & Jason.

Ann, James, Joe, Dan & Rachel. Redhill. July 2014.

Our third holiday here once again we have had a fabulous time. Annette & Jason have been wonderful hosts and the children have had a fantastic time on the beach, in the pool, in the games room and having fun with the family next door. We will be back for the 4th year!!

Steve, Julie, Cléa, Théo, Matthis & Lily. Cardiff - June/July 2013

We've thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The four children have loved playing in the play-room & using the swimming pool as well as all this gîte has to offer. The weather has been great, meaning we've spent the majority of our time here using the facilities, eating outdoors and a few trips to the beach and walks in the Marais. We'll hopefully be back again in future years! Thank you both Jason & Annette, you've been very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us during our stay.

Great gite, fantastic pool and games room

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing stay at Le View Cafe. Our two boys (9 & 13 years) absolutely loved the pool, games room and gym. The owners were very friendly and hospitable and we enjoyed our evening drinks in their company. Although you can't walk to a nearby village the gite is very convenient for the lovely Vendee beaches and the many other attractions in the surrounding area.

A wonderful place for a family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Le Vieux Cafe was everything we had hoped for and more. If anything it is better than the descriptions here and on the owners' own website.

The house itself is spacious and comfortable, fitted out to a high standard and the kitchen is very well equipped (except, for some reason, lacking in saucepan lids).

The games room was amazing, full of toys, games and books for all ages. So while our eldest played on the Xbox with a friend, the youngest was totally absorbed with the Playmobil pirate ship.

The gardens and swimming pool were also just right for our family. The pool is securely fenced off, so we had no worries about the little one falling in. It was heated to a comfortable temperature and big enough to be really fun.

At the time we were visiting, the fig tree and plum tree were fruiting and we were delighted to take Annette up on the offer to help ourselves. You don't get breakfast like that back home!

This is perhaps not the best place for people who are light sleepers and enjoy a lie-in, as the church just over the road starts chiming the hours from 7am. However it doesn't continue into the night, so it's not that hard to get used to.

When we booked our one concern was the location. We all love the beach and when we looked on Google Maps, the nearest beach looked like it was miles away. In fact there is a very good beach less than half an hour's drive away. It has a big car park, toilets and life guard station. But if you drive a little further along the road in the forest you can get to a quieter stretch of the same beach. Wonderful sand and fantastic surf to swim and body-board in.

The owners, Annette and Jason live in the house adjoining Le Vieux Cafe and were extremely hospitable, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area.

We would highly recommend Le Vieux cafe to families looking for a wonderful place for a summer holiday.

Perfect holiday home for the family

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this holiday home for the past 6 years, and it never disappoints. The holiday home has lovely views of the surrounding countryside, and can easily accommodate large families. Fantastic location, with beeches around 20 - 30 mins drive away. The games room and the pool kept the kids occupied, whilst the hosts Jason & Annette can advise the best places to visit for day trips out. We have already booked for next year ! Thanks again Jason & Annette.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the good review! We love to see you come back each year! We have tried to set the house and gardens up to be very family-friendly - with lots of toys, games, books, DVDs and more for all ages - that's if you can drag yourselves away from the heated pool! See you next year

Everything you need for a good holiday

  • 5 of 5

Warm welcome, fantastic house with everything you could need. With 2 weeks of fabulous weather the amazing pool was very well used. Lots to see and do in the area with Jason and Annette providing useful local knowledge. Loved La Tranche sur Mer and the Parc Floral. A trip to La Rochelle and Il de Re well worth the hour's journey.

Maison Lairoux

Lovely authentic French house

  • 4 of 5

Maison Lairoux is in a superb position in a small French village.

It is extremely well equipped with everything needed for a family holiday. The house is furnished to a traditional French style and is spacious and comfortable.

The pool and gardens and games room is very well looked after and clean and private and could not be better.

The owners Jason and Annette were so friendly and helpful.

We stayed as a family and had a really good time.

I would recommend it to anyone.

You would need a vehicle though.

A gem!

  • 5 of 5

Our 3rd stay at Maison Lairoux and we had such a great time with wonderful memories. Clean, well equipped and great views from the house over the vendee with fresh tomatoes, pears and annotates home made strawberry jam from the garden below. There is a brilliant well maintained swimming pool with fabulous views, loungers for relaxing whilst the kids splash about and even lights for a late night dip which the kids adored! The playroom is so well stocked with great table tennis table and the xbox was great for that rainy day! recommend a trip to isle d'aix by ferry from la rochelle which is also beautiful. The beaches nearby are amazing (car is essential) - annette and jason give great pointers on where to go to find the best spots (thank you both!). One of our kids celebrated his 8th birthday there very happily (thank you Annette for the delicious bday cake and little party!). A brilliant holiday.

From the Owner

We were living in Jersey and decided that it was time for a change! So, having visited France several times on holiday, we thought that we'd take the huge step of moving over here and setting up a business. The Lairoux area is great - close to a wide variety of fantastic beaches and not far from La Rochelle, La Roche sur Yon or Nantes airport. Luçon is only a short drive away and here you will find many supermarkets, bars and restaurants. The village is very peaceful - with a few fêtes and celebrations throughout the year. The surrounding countryside is great for walking and cycling and there is a great variety of wildlife to be seen throughout the year. We have some unusual migratory birds that visit the flooded winter Wetlands nearby.

The lovely sandy beaches of the southern Vendée are only a 15 minute drive away. There are miles of long beaches and many have entertainment and activities laid on during the summer months. There is a wide variety of beach - some for body boarding or surfing, some for rock-pooling and others for relaxing or building sand castles. All have good parking and most have cafés, toilets and seaside towns nearby. Les Conches and La Terrière are particularly good for bodyboarding - great family fun!

Our village is approximately 1 hour from Nantes airport and 45 minutes from La Rochelle - both of which are served by budget airlines such as Ryanair, Jet2 and Easyjet. Car hire is available.

The ferry ports of Northern France start from only 3.5 hours away. St Malo is the closest and is served by both Brittany Ferries and Condor Ferries. Caen is 5 hours, Cherbourg is 5.5 hours, Le Havre is 6 hours and Calais with its ferries and EuroTunnel is only 6.5 hours away.

Le Vieux Café is only a 10 minute drive to Luçon which has many supermarkets, restaurants, banks, cafés and entertainment. There is a lovely central park and the old cathedral is worth a visit.

La Rochelle is only 40 minutes away - with an aquarium, harbour side restaurants and lots of boutiques and shops. The ile de Ré is a good day out for cycling, the beaches and generally relaxing.

The famous Puy du Fou theme park is only 1 hour away, where you will see Gladiators, Knights, Musketeers and Vikings, along with a world class Evening Sound and Light show featuring over 1000 participants and set around a lake and chateau ruins!

Further Details:

The Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers is also only a 90-minute drive away, where you can experience the world of 3D cinema and exciting virtual reality rides. A great day out and fun for all the family.

For a more tranquil day out, the Marais Poitevin is only 60 mins away. Here you will find the famous ‘Venise Verte’ with its miles of canals and waterways. A great place to stop off is Coulon where you can hire a boat for the morning before sampling some of the local specialties at the many little restaurants scattered along the canal banks.

The Vendée has a well-kept secret - lots of locally produced wines that are great for drinking now! We are only minutes away from the Fief Vendéen wine route which starts in the pretty town of Mareuil sur Lay and wine tasting afternoons can be arranged with some of the local wine producers.

For those looking for more leisurely activities, there are some fantastic country walks, bird watching facilities and prehistoric monuments to explore all within half an hour of Lairoux.

There are also many other tourist attractions in the area - such as The Indian Forest Adventure Park where you can fly through the trees on zip wires, The Tropical Gardens at St Cyr, The Adventure Château at Avrille with its treasure trail around the large gardens and the Valley de Yon – a pre-historic valley cut into the landscape with giant boulders and bathing pools.

From the Owner

Maison Lairoux Holiday Homes are set in a quiet location, but are not remote - we are in the centre of the village, but in a little side road - so there is no passing traffic. We have stunning views from the gardens towards the Marais (Dry Marshlands) and in winter the scenery changes dramatically as the Marais floods and we have a giant lake at the bottom of the garden! The houses are in an ideal location for visiting the coast with its many beaches and seaside towns. It's nice to be able to visit the coast - but just as nice to step away from the hustle and bustle and relax in the gardens - sipping a glass of local wine whilst sitting next to the pool!
