About Oenone Sparkman

Mark and I fell in Love with Las Tuillieres before we were married in 1992. We have enjoyed visiting it it as much as we are able, which has been difficult as my husband was in the foreign service. We have lived mostly in Africa but recently in Greece and Australia. I am an artist specializing in tropical wildlife. Living in tropical countries has helped me greatly with my work and been a wonderful experience for both of us. We live in Virginia, USA.

Oenone Sparkman purchased this house in 1992

Why Oenone Sparkman chose Tarn-et-Garonne

I went to the Lycee Francais de Londres when I was little. French was my second language and we always went to France on holiday every year as children. My brother moved to the Dordogne in 1990, and when my father died I wanted to buy a house in France of my own. We found Las Tuillieres in 1992 and fell in love with it immediately. The house is very private with a large garden and two swimming and fishing lakes. It is my dream house and we have been very happy visiting it for many years. The surrounding countryside is so beautiful, the perfect place to relax on holiday. We adore eating good food in the restaurants nearby and exploring the many local markets. There are numerous local vineyards in the area that are also fun to explore.

What makes this house unique

I particularly enjoy swimming in our lake every day, especially on hot days. I always take a long walk from the house as there are many walks across the valley in any direction. We sit outside to eat our meals, watching and listening to the wildlife on our lake. We have seen badgers, genet cat, foxes, many deer, ducks, heron, hawks and moor hen on our property. It's a good place for bird lovers and people who want to get away from it all. Many people like to fish in the lakes or paint the tall poplar trees that reflect in the water. For more active visitors there is canoeing, tennis, horseback riding and parachuting nearby.

Tranquil French Farmhouse - a fabulous escape

  • 4 of 5

My family had a wonderful stay at this historic French FarmHouse. We spent many a night sitting on the outside table, enjoying a glass of rosé and some delicious local produce. A true peaceful, relaxing setting. During the day we spent our time walking around through the fruit orchards, up the hill to the back lot and around the two large lakes. The children loved the fresh spring water which flowed readily. The wifi was a nice convenience. Definitely need to hire a car to gain access to house and explore the region to gain the full experience. We didn't need to use the large fireplace as we went in the height of summer, but I'm sure it's very cosy on those colder days! We left relaxed.

French farmhouse experience

  • 4 of 5

This authentic French farmhouse was just perfect for our family get away. Just one and a quarter hours by car from Toulouse. If hiring a car, make sure you get a small one as the roads in the Lot region are narrow but deserted. And when driving, the sign posting is fantastic in France and it was very easy to drive to a different village or vineyard everyday. This beautiful stone house has spacious rooms and a wonderful outdoor setting. You can shift the table either to capture the sun or to follow the shade. The property has beautiful orchards with ripe fruit just so sweet and juicy. Sitting in the garden just enjoying the scenery and the gardens was so relaxing. The supermarkets are close by and sell local cheese and wine at very reasonable prices. The local patisserie and boucherie are divine. We could not have asked for a more peaceful and beautiful place for our holiday.
